When Bob got back to his room, the first thing he did was delete Natasha’s number. He had never intended to contact her again, and it just genuinely didn’t occur to him to do so.
Yet, there was no excuse, and he knew he had taken her feelings for granted. He felt so foolish -- even disappointed with himself. He tossed and turned the entire night.
Jackie sat at the dressing table and stared blankly in the mirror. She heard everything Bob had said outside her room. Her red eyes were soaked in tears as she tried to make sense of it all.
*At least I know he’s genuine about the emeralds. Am I being fair to him? Maybe he’s telling the truth, and he’s not seeing that woman anymore… Oh, why do I feel upset over her?*
Memories of her childhood flashed through her mind. Her father was hardly ever home, and she constantly saw her mother crying by herself every night. And whenever he was home, they’d be quarreling. On several occasions, she accused him of having an affair.
