章 67: Onto Land
We had finally made it to land. Though it had been a rough week, Azula had been on edge. I had figured out why of course, but besides just plowing over it there was no fix for it. Azula normally was her father's perfect child, while Zuko had been more or less a fuck up in her eyes. Except now that we had started planning for a overthrow of her father and all that. It seems Azula has a few hooks in her that make her worried about her brother still being view better than her. Her Psyche stat was just stuck where it was. Every time I reassured her and help increase it it would decrease the same amount I had increased.
Which meant Azula was being a little more tyrannical. I didn't think Azula was that much of a arsonist, but she burned a lot of things while she was like this. Thankfully though she was determined to go for the Spirit Library for the sake of information. Even right now Azula was yelling at Dock workers to speed along the transfer of supplies from the boat to the Land Galleon.
"Aren't you gonna stop her?" i looked at Ty Lee, "Why would I do that?" Ty Lee shrugged, "Didn't you want to improve her ummm public opinion?" I nodded, "This is true..." I sighed, "I'll go stop her."
I walked up behind Azula and stood beside her. This would be entertaining, I grabbed Azula's butt leading her to instantly turn on me. "What are you doing?" "My job i guess, go sit down." Azula glared up at me and then accessed me. "Have you gotten taller than me?" I motioned to the dock workers to go back to work. While Azula was staring at me, "No I am just not slouching right now. i have always been slightly taller than you."
Azula turned back to where the workers were and then stared back at me. "You distracted me!" I nodded, "I also grabbed your butt, but you seem a lot less hung up on that then i thought you would be." Azula was about to say something and stopped, "Shut up, don't interrupt me when i am..." I pulled Azula away from where we were standing.
"Sit down, remember we are trying to improve your public opinion so unless you want to apologize to the workers go sit down." I got a minor increase to Azula's obedience and she turned to go sit down where I had previously. Before we go I would likely tell those workers that Azula is just having an off day and that I am sorry for the trouble she caused.
"Good thing she has someone like you bye her side." I spun and found an old man behind me. "Yeah i suppose..." He nodded, "I betcha wondering who I am, My name's Kal I am the mayor of this small town."
I nodded, I could check the old guy's status and low and behold it checked out. "So then Kal what do you mean?" He shrugged, "Well here in the colonies there's a lot of beef and tension between people. Some families have both Fire benders and Earth benders while others completely oppose both sides altogether. Hell I would even say you might run into a few kids who might be influenced by their parents ideas. Not everyone around here likes the royal family."
"Should you be telling me this?" I stared at me a second, "Young man I am 78 years old I don't fear death. I have survived crisis after crisis, I was one of the original colonizers. If you want to you can kill me now it won't help though. I have survived beast and pirate a like around these parts."
I nodded, "That's fair, That's fair. Though i don't believe I told you anything which means you got some pretty good ears on you old man." "Can't deny that, I heard what the cute one said and I figured I could help you."
I raised an eyebrow for the old man to continue. "Well if you want to improve her public opinion in the colonies is pretty simple. Get a law passed that allows the mixing of culture. After all there's taxes for those who embrace earth nation traditions. With the express idea that its fine to mix the two the colonies will stop fighting and should form their own traditions."
I stared at the old man, "You got my respect old man, but Imma go now." He nodded, "Fair enough remember what I said about those kids, don't hurt them if they try anything." I nodded one last time as I walked back over to Azula who was now huffing in silence. That old man was right though, a little unrefined, but... with a glance around town I could figure it out.
The old man wasn't forcing any imperial laws. Letting the people mostly govern themselves. Perhaps I should look into the taxes of the colonies. Was I allowed to do that? "Hey Azula am I allowed to investigate taxes and the nation's funds an all that?"
She looked at me, "I have no idea, I am not even sure if I'm allowed to do that. I learned how to manage it, but I never actually checked it." "Why would you not check about it? What if someone is embezzling money?" She looked at me, "If they did that do you think they would still be alive?" "Okay that's fair. Still can I get access to those?" She sighed, "Whatever."
Azula held her head up by her chin. Ty Lee was bending over backwards and doing handstands. The question now was... "Where the fuck is Mai?" "Who knows, I'm bored though." I patted Azula on the head while she slapped away my hand. "Why don't you try to practice bending then? Ty Lee did Mai say anything to you?"
Ty lee tripped slightly and bounced back up, "She said she would go shopping, over there..." Ty Lee pointed with her feet to a boat sitting on the dock. "Hey Azula you wanna rob some pirates?"
Azula smiled, "That sounds great and exactly what I need."
