How does she explain the urgency without knowing the reason? Why is this place so persistent in its call?
Watching Tau, she had stepped out of line. Tau's reaction as the paddles hit the water showed his annoyance. What will they do to her?
Sonia noticed the unnatural angle of her legs. When she moved, the boat rocked.
"Be still," Tau hissed. The boots smeared her dress with mud and another tare appeared.
"Answer me, Sonia! Why do you want to go there?" he demanded.
"Please, I just have to go, Tau. This is important to me," she begged.
"There is nothing for you. That place isn't safe," and he peddled closer to the bank. Frank was still shouting at her. With his weapon in hand, he ran up and down the bank till they reached it. The kids chanted her name in a choir.
"Please, Tau."
