章 32: Doctor Cynthia
It's only been a few days since she entered the Book Pavilion with Lu Ping. She was unaware of the latest gossip in the capital city, Cerulean Moon of the Hou Kingdom.
When she left to cultivate, it was the day after she was "buried".
But now she's back and still using the name Shi Jin.
Song Huo brought Song Jia to Song Xia's courtyard. The guards bowed in greeting and let them in. Lu Ping stayed outside the door and stood next to one of the guards, waiting for her mistress.
Inside Song Xia's chambers, the smell of medicine assaulted her senses. On a bed covered by a canopy laid a man, who looked deathly pale.
She felt a pang in her heart as she saw him. "Father.."
Her footsteps quickened and she kneeled down beside the bed, she held his hand as gently as she could.
"Uncle, why isn't he waking up yet?" Her tears welled up in her eyes, lips trembling.
The uncle ached to watch his niece this way. He sighed. "The doctors said that all we can do is wait.."
"Wait for what?" Song Jia was dissatisfied. 'What are they waiting for? His death?'
As she held her father's hand, her two fingers palpated his wrist. His pulse was too slow. Her eyes moved to count his breathing. It's not good.
'I need to check him further. But if my uncle sees what I'm about to do, he'll find it strange and might even get scared.'
"Uncle, can I have a moment of privacy with my father? Maybe hearing my voice will wake him up sooner.." She looked pleadingly up at Song Huo.
"Of course.. Take your time.. I'll be right outside." Song Huo stepped outside and decided to check on Lu Ping's improvement.
Meanwhile, inside the chambers, with a wave of her hand, Song Jia brought Song Xia inside the Spirit Artifact with her and directly inside the laboratory.
There was an area in the laboratory, fully equipped like that of a hospital. Her mother in her past life was a doctor after all. Crystal had told her in passing that in the Spencer mansion, her mother used to practice her skills there. Of course, it came in handy every time any of them was sick. Her mother could check them using their machines.
She took out the stethoscope and began to examine him using the other instruments as well. She had him undergo a series of tests, blood chemistry, X-ray, MRI and CT scan. Fortunately, with her advance in cultivation rank, what was 5 days here is equal to 1 day outside, is now 1 month here is equal to 1 day outside.
She should have given the big brother a thank you gift.
"Jia! You brought your father?" Crystal came to find her as soon as she felt her presence.

"Can you watch him for me? Let me know if there are any improvements.."
"Sure!"
Jia went to the library and gathered all of the books she could find about Alchemy.
"Essence Pill.. This is perfect!" She found one with the purpose to support the health of bones, muscles, tendon, heart, lungs, kidneys and spleen as well as circulatory, respiratory, digestive, immune and nervous systems.
She went back to the laboratory and went to the area where the furnace was placed.
"Jia, are you going to refine pills?"
"Yep! Can you help me gather what I need?
"Alright."
Crystal easily gathered the ingredients listed by her and placed it on a table. While Song Jia started the fire in the furnace.
She decided to refine some basic pills and elixirs first. She combined the process she learned in Biochemistry and the procedures written in the alchemy books.
After a series of trial and error which she tallied down including the results attained, she was finally able to refine her first elixir, The Heart Calming Elixir.
Just the smell of it quickly made her enter into a meditative state. And she did, a seal was broken and a memory surfaced.
Song Jia went down on a lotus position and searched for this piece of memory. Upon realizing her discovery, a wide grin appeared on her face.
She then proceeded to refine pills such as the Inedia Pill, Bigu Pill, Essence Pill and the Sanguis Draconis.
An Inedia pill is used to gain the ability of qi absorption for 2 days, automatically recovering from hunger.
The Bigu pill is used to nullify the sensation of hunger.
Sanguis Draconis moves the blood, clears stasis, eases pain, and stops bleeding.
After she had refined these, she and Crystal took turns in monitoring Song Xia's status. She would administer the intravenous medication and dress his wounds, using the Sanguis Draconis as its ointment to stop the bleeding.
During this time, she went to cultivate and refine more pills and elixirs.
After she had administered the medication for a week in the Spirit Artifact, she could see that Song Xia had almost fully recovered. His skin was no longer as pale as before, there was a tinge of pink on his cheeks now.
"The perfume should be ready, right?"
"Mm! I've just checked! It turned out well! Jia, can you give me one?"
"Of course, choose whichever you like.."
Song Jia picked up a bottle of perfume that's suited for men. It had the smell of citrus, vanilla, amber, nutmeg and sandalwood. She sprayed it on her chest, wrists and rubbed it on her neck, and insides of her elbow.
She also transferred it to nicer looking bottles, reserved for Wan Yan. 'Should I give one to that guy too? I haven't given him a thank you gift yet…'
After a moment of deliberation, she also prepared one for Sun Xun.
As for the pills and elixirs, it has been kept in jade bottles.
With a wave of her hand, Song Xia disappeared from the hospital bed and appeared on his own bed. Song Jia soon followed, appearing beside his bed.
She fixed the blanket and covered him.
She went to the door and opened it. Song Huo was still outside and was giving instructions to the guards. When he noticed her, he told them to stay put then went to the chambers again.
"Done?"
"Mm." She nodded. "I need to tell you something.."
"Go ahead. I've put a talisman here so nobody could hear us from outside.."
She took out the jade bottles and handed it to her uncle.
