章 4: First Mystery
It's been five years since the accident in 2007 to be precise, and Alex has been hanging out less with me and Kara. I believe two years before is when Mr. Danvers was taken by Hank Hanshaw to prevent the DEO from taking Kara. In the show, the following year is when Mr. Danvers went MIA and John J'ones took over Hank Hanshaw's position. The good thing is that Alex still talks to me whenever she sees me at lunch and outside of school. I'm now 17 and the plot is now getting closer and my cultivation finally made a breakthrough to the seventh stage. I have also made a name for myself by saving people here and there. I believe that the DEO has their eye on me because I could sense multiple beings wherever I show up as Kabuto. Also in those three years, I've noticed that on the news there have been multiple death's in National City for some odd reason. The plot hasn't even started yet and most of the attacks should be happening in Metropolis because of Superman's MC aura. The odd thing is that most of the victims were found with no fluids within their bodies and no weapons could be identified.
There have also been reports of people's relatives or spouses acting weird for a while and then leaving without notice. Many have reported missing person cases, but none have surfaced so far. There have been no more reports on this case, I'm assuming that the DEO is covering it up if it has anything to do with aliens. I need to find a way to sneak off to National City without worrying my parents, and luckily our school had a field trip next week so that would give me my chance.
"Are you excited about this field trip Kara?" I asked her.
"Yes. I am very excited, most of the time I'm only allowed to leave the house is when I go to school or a block away with Alex. Although lately, she's been avoiding me for some odd reason." She replied as she looked down at her feet.
"No worries, I'm sure Alex will come around. She is probably going through something and doesn't want to bother you with it." I told her while putting my hand on Kars's shoulder. She looked up at me and smiled. We continued on our day and I noticed Kara made a new friend.
"Hey, Johnathan this is Kenny Li." Kara gestured to me and him. I shook his hand and introduce myself too. He was also Asain, had long wavy black hair, about 5'5", brown eyes, and a skinny build.
"So how did you two meet?" I asked Kenny,
"Well, Kara and I were made lab partners so we've begun talking to one another. We found out that we have a lot in common. Like stargazing, love for outer space, etc." He replied. We talked about many things during lunch, then the bell rang for us to go back to class so we said our goodbyes. As Kara and I headed to our class,
"So Kara Danvers I have a question for you," I said to her.
"What is it, Johnathan." She said,
"Do you like Kenny?" I asked her. She stopped walking and when I turned around to look at her she was blushing yet giving me a death stare too. She then stomped off leaving me stupified in place. I began to laugh while chasing after her fleeing figure. Kara didn't talk to me throughout the whole class and she even left before I even had a chance to apologize to her.
"I'm sure she will get over it soon. For now, I should figure out my plan to find out these mysteries in National City." I thought to myself while walking towards the exit. I then noticed Alex walking with her friends,
"Alex!" I shouted at her. She noticed me and said goodbye to her friends, then began to walk my way.
"John, whatcha up too?" She asked walking up to me. I nodded to her,
"Would you like to accompany me, I was thinking of stopping at some stores," I asked Alex. She nodded and we began to walk home.
"Where is Kara?" She asked me,
"I don't know, I said something and made her pretty angry. She ignored me the whole day." I replied.
"Wow, the whole day. What did you say?"
"I asked her if she liked a certain boy and she flipped out."
"What was his name?"
"Kenny, I believe," I replied and she stopped walking. I turned around and saw that she had a shocked face, but then reverted to her original expression. We began to walk again and talked about other things such as school, home life, etc. We stopped by a grocery store and bought some drinks and candy. We found a spot on an old playground near the store to hang out at. I sat down on the swing and Alex took the seat next to me.
"So tell me, my dear Alex, what has been going on between you and your sister," I said while swinging which gained me a small chuckle from her. We kept swinging in silence for about another minute,
"I haven't told anyone yet, because my mother said not to tell anyone due to some circumstance. But I trust you more than anyone I know," she said.
"I appreciate that very much." I acknowledged her.
"From what we were told, my father was in a plane crash and is presumed dead. He was taken away two years ago from us by some people dressed in black uniforms. I believe that they were a part of the military, but my mom told me to leave it alone. I know it isn't Kara's fault but if it wasn't for her and her cousin then my dad wouldn't have to go with them." She let out with tears forming out of the corner of her eyes. Neither of us said anything, but I got up from my seat and hugged Alex from the back.
"I'm sorry to hear about everything. I am also grateful that you trust me enough to tell me all this. Even though I can't do anything for you, I do know that if you keep Kara at arm's length. She will begin to feel like no one in the world loves her or will treat her like a human being. She has amazing abilities that no one in this world can understand and if she is pushed over the edge. I don't even want to know what may come after." I told her and I could feel her shudder in my arms. I sat back down on my swing and we finished drinking our sodas. We also talked about other things to lighten up the mood. It turned dark rather quickly as we walked back home in silence and as we got to Alex's house we stopped in the driveway.
"No matter what happens. I want you to know that you can count on me for anything." I said to her and then she hugged me before running to her house. I just smiled and walked towards my family farm down the road. I then noticed a figure hiding within the woods. I sent some Ki into my eyes to enhance my vision and I saw that it was Kenny with his telescope. I decided to follow him to see what he was up to. Walking through the woods I noticed that the stars were very beautiful tonight.
"I should probably take the Danvers sisters out to see this one night." I thought to myself.
As I was in my thoughts, I almost ran into Kenny but luckily I stopped myself before I was noticed. I crouched down behind one of the trees and waited to see what Kenny was up to. It didn't take long for me to realize that all he was doing was stargazing. So I was going to call it a night until I heard him gasp very loudly, then he began to mumble to himself.
I enhanced my vision once more to see what he saw and what appeared in my vision. There were two people there near a tent. After closely looking, I could make out that it was a female and a male. The female looked like Alex's friend Josie and the male was a bit older I believe it looked like Mr. Benard our History teacher. Well, it doesn't take rocket scientists to realize what they are doing.
"I'm sure Kenny will figure out something, he's a smart guy. He'll know what to do about this." I thought to myself before walking out of the woods. As I was walking out of the woods I felt something run past me very quickly, the force caught me off guard and knocked me on my butt. Then a purple creature that looked like a stag beetle was standing in front of me staring.
"Worm!" I shouted out and the creature tilted its head in curiosity. I instantly sent out a thought to the Kabuto Zecter. I quickly got back up to my feet, but I was surrounded by five more green worm-like creatures.
