The Spiess Room looked like a cross between a mini department store and a Halloween shop. It contained period clothing from all major timelines from the past one hundred years. You could also find accessories, such as watches, jewelry, and currency.
The middle-aged woman in charge was Claire McCardell. She had no time-travel abilities of her own but was a master historian and an expert on period dress. She also acted as the pilgrim's travel agent. She had a reputation for being unfriendly.
Claire was never told the nature of the pilgrimages but had to be filled in on the precise times and places. Katya knew that in the old timeline she would have raised an eyebrow when the date, November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas was uttered. But in this compromised time, nothing of great importance happened on that day.
"Day or evening wear?" she asked.
"Day," Cyrus answered.
"Duration of stay?" she barked.
Cyrus looked at Katya.
"Three to six hours, I imagine," she answered.
