As the weeks passed the young siblings of Lanthim completed their first foray into the forest. Alone in a room, Mynrea had prepared for him to use as a study reading over the report that Aldain had prepared. When they had all been sent Lanthim had not required any such information. Reading the report was amusing with the four individuals struggling to come to grips with a place where every living thing is. Not only could but would cause them harm.
That aside everyone had returned safely with a greater appreciation for the training they had received. Frelimta had distinguished himself admirably through the experience. The young dragon while second order could be considered on par with his young fiancee. With both having their order seals removed on the same day.
Lanthim hoped that the marriage of these two would provide a secure home for Syrelia. She was still young only twelve now. But the time until she turned seventeen would be essential to her further training. The ability to see the future as clearly as she could was something that many wanted. To the extent that she had already been captured once. With things as they were now the need two worry about her protection was pointless.
Putting away the report, Lanthim looked over a series of documents detailing the coming movement of the clan. From their home in the Forest of Legrcstim to the Dragon Lands. The purpose of this move was twofold. First a large contingent of the subordinate clans that recently came under Drathalkin's influence. Were nationally ranked and lower clan dragon families. While they lived in their territories abroad still kept residences in their motherland. Second was the fact that revealing higher-order beings such as himself would have a much greater impact on dragon kind than on humans or any other race.
After all this, the primary reason for the move was to provide Syrelia with experience living within dragon culture. For the next five months which encompasses the entire summer break th,e Drathalkin clan would dwell in the dragon lands.
Turning his attention from the documents to the door before him. Lanthim could sense Mynrea approaching with a maid in tow. Waiting a moment as both approached he waved his hand and the door opened.
" Good morning husband I have brought tea this morning." [Mynrea]
Entering the room in a blue dress that would attract any passersby. Mynrea sat on one of the many articles of furniture that were set up strategically around the study. Depending on the situation the entire room was set up for many kinds of meetings public or otherwise. In the center of the room was a large cloister of chairs and couches surrounding a short table in the center.
"Good, a break from my current duties is desirable." [Lanthim]
Standing from his desk Lanthim made his way to the seat next to his wife. Taking a presented cup from Mynrea both sat in silence. Since he had recovered from his injuries Mynrea had been more insistent on him training less and paying more attention to Leinea and herself. In the past, he would be attentive but would always put more of his energies into training. Now both had become adamant he shift his attention to more family-based pursuits.
For Lanthim this change was refreshing it was true that he always desired to be stronger. However, after the last life-threatening event a change in perspective was necessary.
"I hope the plans for moving to the Dragon Lands are moving along smoothly." [Mynrea]
Lanthim had given strange instructions when it came to this move. No clothes were to be packed nor furniture moved it was as if they were just picking themselves up and leaving.
"Everything is proceeding well since we will not be travelling by portal." [Lanthim]
In an instant, he could feel her eyes burrowing into his soul. At present, he was still in high enough order that he did not have to worry about her always reading his mind. But since both his wives like his mother naturally broke through the order seals they were well on their way to getting closer to where he was.
"It works to our advantage to use a more projective means of intimidation towards our subordinate clans. As things are simply walking around wearing a third order Neytriel will eventually lose its novelty so we need something more." [Lanthim]
With raised eyebrows, Mynrea showed displeasure at this answer. If there was one thing Lanthim had a pension for it was telling the truth as vaguely as possible. If what he said was true it would take twelve weeks by air ship to reach the dragon lands.
"You are a man of many secrets, and yet if there is a means of travelling to the Dragon Lands. In any reasonable amount of time would mean you have something prepared that we don't know about." [Lanthim]
Lanthim shifted in his chair uncomfortably.
"You say that as if I have intentionally hidden something. All assets that have been integrated into the clan have been fully disclosed to Leinea." [Lanthim]
"There is nothing in all that paper that has anything to do with what we are talking about." [Mynrea]
Again he shifted the reports on clan airship assets had been produced in a way. That the number of ships could be counted also the length of cargo tonnage was also included. When it came to the speed these ships could achieve. This information was kept a high-level secret not revealed to anyone within the clan.
Or at least he had hoped to keep things that way. Now that Mynrea was passive-aggressively prying it out of him, he would at least have to reveal something.
"The information given in the reports was entirely accurate, any omissions in the reports. Were deemed sensitive intelligence that could be potentially destructive if allowed to be revealed." [Lanthim]
Mynrea folded her arms under her breast with a look on her face that did not indicate that she found the explanation acceptable.
"I have lived with you long enough to know that the secrets you keep are for the safety of the family. In the end, however, is it necessary to sustain these secrets even from the matriarch of the clan?" [Mynrea]
For his part, Lanthim wanted to keep as many technological advances as he could, firmly guarded secrets. But as time passed Leinea and Mynrea had been slowly pulling things out of him.
Again the room fell silent as neither could find the words to carry on the conversation. Mynrea did not wish to annoy her husband by forcing the issue further. But he had blatantly implied something that he was purposefully keeping secret. While she did not hate the idea of a surprise showing, of this means of transport to the Dragon Lands. There was still the fact that he continued to limit important information. Regardless of how powerful he was or how he controlled the clan from the shadows. She was not happy that there were limits to what he would share.
From the side of her eye, she could see Lanthim let out a long sigh.
'He has made a decision.' {Mynrea}
Rising from his seat Lanthim made his way back to his desk. Opening the top leftmost drawer he withdrew what to Mynrea looked like a small card. Placing the card on his desk Lanthim passed Mana through the array that activated the card. For a moment there was no sound as Lanthim turned to look out the large window behind him.
Mynrea looked towards Lanthim's back wondering what was going on, with the silence becoming stifling. Until like a lightning bolt from the blue a loud voice came from the card.
"My master please forgive my tardiness."
The voice from the card sounded like it was coming from a workshop it was almost impossible to hear what was being said.
"It is fine Taiach, I need a moment." [Lanthim]
"I am leaving the work floor now." [Taiach]
Silence followed as the person on the other side of the communication spell moved to a more silent location.
"The usual communication spell construct is too big for such a small card. Must be convenient to have a long-distance communication device in your pocket." [Mynrea]
"It is at that, however, cards of this kind are only used between upper management. To allow for ease of communication. For all others, the traditional method is used. The complexity of the construct makes mass dissemination of such a product undesirable." [Lanthim]
Turning his attention to his wife Lanthim picked up the card as he returned to his seat beside her. As he sat the voice of Taiach could be heard coming through the card.
"Taiach Lernmal reporting." [Taiach]
For a moment Lanthim had an expression of remorse on his face.
"Listen Taiach I have some undesirable news for you at this busy time." [Lanthim]
Looking at Lanthim with a surprised look Mynrea wondered what he meant.
"If it is an increase in workload we have five free births at present." [Taiach]
Sounding confident that any eventually would not phase him this Taiach seemed willing to take whatever came.
"It is not more work, but a surprise inspection of the shipyards." [Lanthim]
For a moment the conversation ended with the sound of a door slamming being all that was heard. Waiting for a response from Taiach, Lanthim's attention turned to a maid that entered the room.
"Inform the Matriarch that I require her presence as soon as she is able.[Lanthim]
With a bow, the made disappeared instantly from the site. For all the skill Mynrea was proud of she knew she was far weaker than any maid in this residence. In the next moment, the maid was back with Leinea holding her hand.
"Is something wrong that you call for me Lanthim?" [Leinea]
As beautiful as ever Leinea moved over to her husband's side.
"No nothing is wrong, Mynrea just directed me towards a needed action." [Lanthim]
Standing from his seat Lanthim picked up the card and deactivated it. Taking Leinea by the hand both disappeared from the room leaving Mynrea and the maid behind.
The next moment both stood on a catwalk overlooking a large bay in which ships were coming and going.
"Port Caldethien? Reading reports is vastly different from actually seeing something of this scale." [Leinea]
As she took in the full vista, Leinea was in awe of the size of the port that lay before her. Three hundred ships were either being loaded or unloaded continuously. Massive ships that made any ship she knew about look tiny.
"So many ships in one place, aside from the movement of finished goods the reports show the raw resources coming into this port are massive."[Leinea]
From her current location the, cargo ships could be seen to be loaded with all kinds of unprocessed ores.
"This port while it does output a great deal of goods. Is the main input for resources going to the Sevdrin airship shipyards." [Lanthim]
For a moment Leinea was silent, the Sevdrin Yards were some of the most limited information she had access to. Yes, she knew they existed but what happened there was unknown to her. As she continued to look out at the bay shade passed over them. As the shade moved on the shape looked unnatural. Looking up abruptly she was confronted by the culprit. An airship larger than any she had ever seen passed overhead.
"Such a big ship, how can it even fly?" [Leinea]
With a smile on his face, Lanthim watched as his wife watched the large ship pass over.
"Heavy freighter. Jelmocht class should be heading to the Fringmal Continent." [Lanthim]
"So far? It would take five years by any other airship to make that trip." [Leinea]
By now Leinea had turned her attention to Lanthim wanting to know more. He just stood where he was dod nothing but smile.
"It will take only three days for a Jelmocht class." [Lanthim]
The look of amazement on his wife's face was worth the trip. While he would have been pleased to keep all this a secret the current situation was satisfying.
"Come, there is much to see, and little time in the day to see it all." [Lanthim]
With an extended hand, Lanthim waited for an excited Leinea to take it. She couldn't decide whether to go with him or continue observing everything around her. The sudden stimulation of so many things left her a little confused as to what she thought she wanted to see more of. After a look out at the bay, she moved to Lanthim's side.
Walking together down the catwalk Lanthim knew when they came around the warehouse behind them would be the airship shipyards. Built close to the bay for ease of movement of resources these yards were massive. Reaching the ground floor both stood before a small gathering of workers waiting for them.
"Master, Matriarch we are pleased to have you come to the yards today." [Taiach]
Looking as if he had run a marathon five times over. The twenty-year-old elf was sweating profusely while still looking professional.
"I am sorry to put you on the spot today Taiach." [Lanthim]
"There is no need for apologies master, please this way." [Taiach]
Waiting as both passed Taiach immediately followed just behind Lanthim. Rounding the corner of the warehouse Lanthim could feel Leinea suddenly stop. Directly in front of them could be seen the bow of an airship as if looking right at her.
"Leinea this is how we can project power over our subordinate clans." [Lanthim]
