章 51: A Message
Few Months Later:
Cheers of happiness resonated all around the Koi Tower. The long awaited marriage between Lan LingJin Sect and Yunmeng Jiang Sect has just been fixed. Happiness and warmth radiated from Jin Zi Xuan and Lady Jiang. I was happy for Wei's Shijie. If he were here, he would have been so boisterous, happy and playful.
Sadly he isn't here.
He never will be.
He's christened as 'The Yiling Patriarch' now. An outcast. An unwanted member who now hides within the depths of the Burial Mountain.
My Wei.
Turning to leave, I walk away from the festivity. My duty here is done. I was asked to accompany my brother and put up a charade.
The only remote feeling of goodwill I had was that finally Wei's Shijie will be marrying the man she loves.
Unlike some.

She is a pure soul and for what Wei has confided in me, it seems she was one of the very few who truly cared for him.
"Hanguang-Jun" a soft voice calls my name and I turn to find a petite young women dressed in lilac robes with Yunmeng Sect crest salute me.
"Lady Jiang" I bow back and her eyes shine.
"You're leaving already" and I nod. She looks around and gestures me to follow her below the Chery blossom tree where a water stream flows by and the subtle smell of fresh lotus pond by the side of the bridge encompasses us.
"Hanguang-Jun, how is A Xian?" Her voice is filled with anguish and yet excitement for I could probably give her some insight.

My eyes find the lush full green ground, unable to look at her "l apologise, I am unaware".
The disappointment in her voice is evident "I thought you would know" her voice trails off. The silence between us is heavy and then she speaks "In this world, if there is anyone who is close to A Xian after A Cheng and me, it would be you. You have always shared a good friendship with him" she smiles and my eyes finds hers.
I am surprised.
"Hanguang-Jun, could I ask you for a favor?" Her eyes perk up with happiness and I subtly nod. "If you ever meet A Xian, could you tell him about his Shijie getting married?"
Hope.
"I want him to know. He won't be invited and he won't come here either. Politics of these clans are something I am never interested in. But for one, I want him to still be a part of my happiness. Could you let him know?" Her pleading eyes is quite similar to Wei's.
I nod again and she smiles. Unable to stay out for much longer time, she bows and heads inside.
I turn and leave.
Holding my Bichen, caressing its hilt, the translucent colour shines bright under the star filled sky. Mind made up, breaking the rules, I was to mount my sword when brother calls my name.
"Wangji" turning towards him, I watch his eyes flash with concern as he detects what I am about to do "You're breaking the rules brother, don't go"
"I need to" I say as I watch his eyes burdened with heavy emotions in them question me "Why?"
"There is a message I need to deliver" I look at the snow filled ground. They're same. Lifeless and colourless. Just like me.
"Is it so important, that you would have to break your own promise?" His voice is coarse.
"Yes"
"Young Master Wei that you knew, is no longer there, Wangji. He has changed" the caution in my brother's voice makes me look into his eyes.
"Have you met him recently?" I ask and he shakes his head "So how can you say that for sure!" and my brother sighs.
Walking upto me, he places both his hands on my shoulders "I won't stop you if you really want to meet him. You have my word. But I won't be able to protect you from the punishment you will receive when you come back to Cloud Recess" his words are final and I understand the weight of it.
I will be punished. For you, I can be punished for eternity.
Brother turns and I watch his stiff back. He's giving me an opportunity to leave. Bowing down, I mount my sword and head to where my heart lies.
It was not the the Sect Leader who consoled a clan member today. It was a brother who stood by the other. When he turned back he found the space empty. He just prayed that in the end, Wangji's heart would not be tattered in this process.
Reaching the Yiling Village, I never realised another story was to start.
Oh dear, we know who Lan Zhan's going to meet soon. Yay!!! My heart.
