An hour later, Desi, Miri and I stood in front of the church’s doors and said our goodbyes to li’Morl. He had to get ready for his evening mass and Miri and I were starving. Miri seemed practically giddy at the prospect of sitting down to dinner with Desi - just like old times when Des and I lived together and Miri practically did, too. I guess all of us were a so overwhelmed by everything supernatural that it made us forget the very real threat simple humans presented.

It wasn’t until we stepped out onto the front steps of St. Paul’s that we realized our mistake.

There, lounging against the stone banister, stood Dancer in all his muscly glory.

Desi didn’t realize he was the goon out to collect Miri, so she walked right past him, not even realizing at first that Miri and I were frozen in the doorway.
