章 1: Why

"I love you." Why couldn't Satin have said the words before the wedding?

She wanted nothing more than to scream at the top of her lungs.

More so now than ever. This place was making Satin numb. The church was stunning, she would know. She had made every single one of the silk flowers that hugged the pews.

She had made the long elegant hand-embroidered floor runner that stretched well out beyond the wide-open church doors.

Not to mention the wedding dresses.

Tea's white dress, meant to highlight her gingerbread skin, blossomed into a train of vivid flowers that trailed behind her.

The numbness in Satin's heart only stung more as she watched Tea gracefully trot down to the altar.

The whole village had turned out, everyone from the village drunk to those who had long left the town hoping to never lay eyes on it again.

Ribbon had demanded all attend, and she always got her wish.

Tea was her stunning best friend. Her long white double braided hair crowned with roses curling around her delicate ram horns.

Tea's bright green eyes reflected the glowing candles that lined the heart-shaped church. Her cloven hooves made not a sound as she seemed to flutter down the lavish runner.

Tea had grown all the flowers herself in the year leading up to the happiest moment of her life. Satin had delicately sewed them to the lavish lace dress train the night before, making sure to keep the flowers as fresh and beautiful as possible.

Satin could feel the bags dipping lower under her eyes as if trying to peel the makeup she had on off to expose how little sleep she got.

This event was the worst moment of Satin's life thus far.

Satin's guts flipped as she watched Tea reach her prize.

Ribbon Pearl Everliving.

Ribbon was the most elegant centaur Satin had ever met, and she was perfect in every way. She was making Satin feel even less of a creature herself at all costs.

Ribbon's stunning blond hair curled in buns along her neck, running down her long centaur body. Her dress stopping just short of her braided tail that was still long enough to touch the floor.

It had taken Satin months to do all the pleating under the long dress so that it would rise just above Ribbon's buttocks. The hardest part was having to let Ribbon look at it.

"It is not all wrong. But-" was the best ccompliment Satin got from Ribbon, and that was saying something.

The only reason Satin had been able to finish the dress was that Tea had intervened. Satin watched in awe as her best friend peppered her lover with compliments, enough to make even the undertaker blush.

Finally, Ribbon had relented and said it was fine.

Fine!?

She said that after months and months of hard work and tweaking to Ribbon's liking.

Satin took a breath. Looking over Ribbon as she stood steadfast at the altar while Tea approached her.

Satin had to admit it was one of the most beautiful things she had ever done. She had finally had to hand make the lace in the end. The pattern had been perfect after the 50th drafting. But it was perfect. Thank goodness.

She held her breath as the pastor began to spell.

"We are gathered here today-"

Satin wanted to cover her ears, not to hear the sweet words exchanged between the pair.

"I will give my heart to you, Ribbon dear." Tea's sweet words burned like a poisoned dagger into Satin's heart.

She felt sick as the rings were revealed.

She then placed on the two delicate fingers.

Then Satin's life was over.

The two were married.

"I love you, Tea," Satin whispered to herself as tears slowly ran down her cheeks.
