Brad took a step into the office, scrutinizing her. “What?”
She pointed to the envelopes on the desk. “Sued. Sarah O’Malley is suing me and the squad for wrongful death.”
“Oh, Chelsea. No wonder you look like you’ve lost your best friend.”
How could he be so calm? “The squad can’t afford a lawyer, at least not a top-shelf one.”
Brad perched his hip on the desk. “What about you?”
She waved her hand. “I already have one, but he refuses to do anymore legal work for the squad.”
His eyes narrowed. “Can she sue even if no criminal charges have been filed?”
“Anyone can sue anyone in this state. Whether they win or not is another story.”
“How are you going to deal with this?”
Her lids fell closed. She couldn’t remember ever feeling so tired, physically or emotionally. “We find a lawyer who will take pity on us and work for free or cheap.”
