CHAPTER 46
The longer they walked, hand locked around arm, the more Kenneth seemed like the same crazed man Catherine had been trapped with in the museum. He pulled at her wildly, painfully gripping her, all the while grumbling to himself. Only this time, there wasn’t a chance Bowen was coming to rescue her. Her weakened brother and best friend couldn’t help, and Mary was lying dead in her living room. She’d have to try to run when they were far enough from the others so he couldn’t harm them if she escaped.
“So where are you gonna do it?” she asked. He was practically dragging her now. Even so, she was grateful he wasn’t looking at her long enough to see her thoughts skitter across her face. Among them, one sly notion lingered. Maybe she could distract him somehow. If she remembered correctly, he was easily riled up.
“Huh?” He was looking around frantically, as though missing something. “What are you babbling about?”
“We both know how you plan to take my magic.”
