Anger flooded his mind. A human?! How could it be a stinky dirty human?! He had even tried to cover up his scent with heavy perfume. Well too bad for him because the Elf King's sense of smell was top notch.
Ron felt something was off and due to the distraction, he missed a step which caused Zedekiel to steady him by the waist with both hands. The King used this opportunity to make Ron wrap his arms around his own neck.
Therefore, they were so close. Due to Ron's lack of height, his head was directly beneath the King's chin. Under the veil, there was no difference between the colour of Ron's face and a tomato. His heart was beating faster than a race horse. What the hell was his Majesty doing?! People were watching!
Zedekiel felt he had to be mistaken. No human could perform the ancient Elf dance. It was impossible! He wanted to make sure his nose wasn't deceiving him. That's why he put them in that intimate position.
Princess Rose was being fed too much jealousy inducing scenes. She almost couldn't take it. A man in her future husband's arms. She couldn't bear the sight!
Ron on the other hand was busy enjoying himself, not knowing that he was about to be investigated. The King's body was warm and strong. He could stay in his arms forever. Ron even made a decision that no matter what, when it's his time to finally leave the earth, he must do so in his beloved arms.
Zedekiel lowered his head, making sure his lips were right against Ron's ear. The best way was to sniff the side of his neck but that would look weird so he resorted to the spot a bit below the ear.
Those who had romantic feelings towards their King were all sad. Looking at their intimate position, and how the King was whispering sweet things in his ear, his people had already come to the conclusion that he will bed the dancer tonight. Every action of his showed that he was into the man called Rat.
Ah if only he knew what his people were thinking. He would most likely raise hell. Well, they didn't know that the King risked it all to get the truth!
And the truth he did get. He growled low in his throat. It was really a human! A damn human! But he couldn't do anything at the moment. His mother wouldn't approve. He would wait until the dance was over then take him in for questioning. How could the ancient dance have fallen to the humans? Just how?!
Ron felt the King's arms tighten around his waist, further making their bodies stick close. The prince was overjoyed as they glided on the dance floor. The King was surely already falling for him!
After a few minutes, the song ended and they separated to take the customary final bow and the second they stood straight,
Ron bolted.
This shocked everyone. Nobody expected him to run. Didn't he want to spend the night with the King? Did he chicken out or what? How could this fool waste such a good opportunity?
Zedekiel was also shocked. He couldn't lose this human. "Guards! Seize him!"
The people were shocked. Did the King want to sleep with Rat so badly? And Rat didn't want to sleep with their King? What an insult! For sure, they had a lot of things to gossip about.
Ron ran like his life depended on it. Well, it did but it's not like he knew. So why was he running? It was all part of the plan. How could he let the King know who he was so soon? He hasn't captured his heart yet. The little prince quickly made it out of the hall and into the night.
It would have been easy for Zedekiel to get him with his Elfin powers but Princess Rose was watching. They'd have to do it the normal way.
"Come, my son" the Queen mother said, patting the King's chair. "Sit, let's finish the feast. I trust our guards to find him"
Zedekiel was uneasy. He wanted to go after them but he couldn't leave the hall for a mere dancer. In his people's eyes, it would be totally weird.
********
Who said catching Ron was going to be easy?
He is a master of stealth and speed! In fact, if anyone was to be given that award, it would be him. He had been sneaking in and out of the castle back in Ashenmore since he was 6. It was so normal for him that it became a habit. The guards there had tried so many times to catch him but they couldn't. Sometimes, not even his shadow could be seen. It was the same for the Netheridge guards.
The prince was as slippery as an eel and as cunning as a fox. He took off the white robes and threw them in a different direction to mislead the guards. In his inner robe, which was black, blending with the night, he dashed back to his room and plopped on his bed, letting out a deep sigh.
Ahhh that was so close!
Now, he just had to return quickly or they'll send someone to look for him.
He took off his disguise and hid them well. While he freshened up, he realised that something was missing. It was a tiny silver ball he had attached to his robes while dancing. He had bought that ball during one of his escapades. It wasn't that important but it was one of his favourite trinkets. He must have lost it while running. Oh well, he still had the twin bell. Good thing he wore one tonight.
He washed his face and wore his previous red robes, ran his fingers through his auburn curls then made his way back to the hall.
As he walked, he kept thanking the heavens that he ran when he did. If not, he would have been exposed. He had no idea that Zedekiel wanted him to stay. Was his dance that enchanting? Or was it something else? He kept a hand under his chin as he pondered. Not exactly focusing on the path, he bumped into someone.
