The emotions welling up in her heart from last night to this moment was so great that she felt as if she'd aged in less than 24 hours. Her heart was doing a marathon in her chest, banging painfully at her ribcage. She could imagine it slamming at her chest like that of Tom in Tom and Jerry whenever he was chased by his sworn enemy, the dog.
But jokes aside, the appreciation and gratituity she felt towards him for all the good he had done to her was slowly fading away only to be replaced by a strong, hate is a strong word, but dislike would do. There's just so much one's heart could take and right now her heart is close to bursting.
In the span of 24 hours, she'd felt hatred and fear alternatively more than she ever had in her 23 years of life.
Trailing behind him to the alley she been to last night, Que glared at the back of his head. She was having a mini pamic attack the closer they got to the crime scene.
She almost fainted, her soul literally almost flew out of her body in horror when he told her she'll be accompanying him. She was tired, hungry and on the verge of death. She hadn't ate anything and came to the gym hoping to train for just 2 hours before heading for breakfast. But that two hours turned into five and when she was done, instead of showering and eating like normal people she was dragged out here under the blazing sun of Softdale in her lose pants and sweaty sports bra. Her hair sticking disgustingly to her skin and her arms feeling as if they'll fall off soon.
Her heart was so confused with the assortment of strong emotions that she had no idea what she was feeling right now. But one thing she was certain, as they got closer to the seal, heck the moment he uttered those dreadful words to the time they entered a car and drove all the way here, her heart had been pounding in her chest in fear of him finding out.
You see, thinking that if she told him the location of the place he'll be so occupied and leave, reward her even, she had omitted the fact that right after the demons had crossed over, the gates sealed up as if a hole had never even appeared there. She thought even if he found out later, she'll just lie and say that she had no idea, so she was at ease. Never for a moment had she thought he'll not only get angry but also drag her along.
Should she say she had no idea? Or what should she do? Subconsciously, she bite at her nails trying to come up with a reasonable excuse that would get her out of this. Truly, this guy is unpredictable and her brain is unfunctionable. Is that even a word? Why didn't she thought to the end before blabbering out about this? Isn't she just getting herself into trouble just like last night when she blabbered to him about her training with Chris?
Yup, it is confirmed. Her brain is faulty.
They arrived at the run down fence which had been destroyed by the demons last night. Zeus inspected the walls and nodded his head, confirming that they had indeed been here. All she could do was stand by the side quietly like a good pet and not get in his way.
Another complicated emotion bubbled in her heart as she took him in from head to toe. He was cladded in a black V neck shirt which hugged his muscles like second skin, complimenting his smooth glowing skin which was taut under his ripped muscles. He was still wearing the black pants from before and looking a Gucci model while she, she looked like a hen which just laid an egg.
After she had told him about the incident, he got up, declared she was coming with him and opened a door in the middle of the gym. With a click of his fingers, he was consumed in a blazing flame and when it went out, he was wearing a shirt and his glistening skin looked fresh as if he had just stepped out of the shower. She gaped at him and when he realised she was in shock, he dragged her out through the door ignoring her whines of letting her take a bath as well. It wasn't fair.
She figured out how he got his hair done over the night.
Being a demon isn't a bad thing after all. Can someone please give her a cheat on how to become one? If a demon bit you, can you turn into one? At least, it'll save her from having to shower everyday.
He went through the opening and walked towards the area where the soil looked darker than the rest. It looked as if it had been burned.
"Where is the seal?" he paused, glancing back at her. She darted her eyes all over the place, looking everywhere but him.
"It was here. Right here."
"Right where?"
"I...Have no idea. It was here, where you stand. The place was burning with a strange markings carved on the ground last night." he turned back, crunch down and felt the soil with his fingers. He gathered some in his hand and sniffed it.
It did smelt burned but apart from that, there was nothing. There wasn't even a single trace of residual energy left behind which had him questioning if the girl was telling the truth.
A gate connecting the realms required strong magic which would definitely leave behind residual energies if not damages even after it's been destroyed.
He looked back at the girl who was now fidgeting, her eyes darting all over the place, trying to come up with a lie.
"You are hiding something." he said matter of factly. "What are you not telling me?"
"Nothing! It was here when I left last night. I have no idea what happened, i swear."
"You are lying. I didn't ask you to swear, I only want answers." he gritted. Que was sure he was suppressing a strong urge to strangle her judging from the sharp jutt of his jaw and the vein popping out of from his fore head.
Que gulped helplessly. She had messed up again, she do not want to put herself in more trouble than she's already in. Why did she had to tell him? Clearly she had angered him and would not get any reward, that is if she get out unscathed.
"I..It vanished after they crawled in."
"And you didn't felt the need to tell me that when you were explaining?" his voice gradually rose, increasing in volume the longer he talked.
"Hell hounds Que! Why haven't you told me that last night? We might have had a chance to catch them. What's the essence of telling me now? Do wish to anger me to death?"
That wouldn't be a bad thing.
"I'm sorry. It slipped my mind, I won't do that again." Boy is he scary when he's mad.
"Of course it slipped your mind. Everything slipped your mind as if there's a vacuum soaking everything except nonsensical stuffs in your mind." he growled now at her ears. He had stalked up to her, towering over her looking as if he'd swallow her from rage."One day you'll be soaked into your mind and I won't be suprised." he added just as her stomach growled back. She rapidly hugged her stomach and kept her face down.
Dear vacuum in her mind, now would be a good time to soak her in. This is embarrassing.
Sigh. He ran his hand through his hair messing up the mohawk that returned back to its form when be took off his hands.
"Next time, don't hesitate to tell me anything you find out. Else, you'll be the one slipping into a hole, never to return." he turned around heading back where they came from.
She is soo hungry. She silently followed behind him. Guess she'll have no reward then. What was she thinking, she should be grateful if be let this slide.
"Wait here." His cold voice called when they reached the car. Perhaps because they were in a haste when they left, they came alone, not even Beardy accompanied them with Zeus being the driver. She slumped on the car which scaled her because of how much heat it had accumulated from being under the sun. She got up and walked to a tree beside the car, slumping down to the ground. She was dirty anyways.
She watched his back as he disappeared among the maze of the people wondering where he's going. She was hungry, tired and hot but she couldn't complain. She resolved to her fate, closing her eyes trying to enjoy the cool air from the tree.
She had been sitting under the tree for 10 minutes when she felt someone's gaze on her. She tried to ignore it but it was getting uncomfortable. Blinking her eyes, she met with a pair of black polished shoes standing in front of her. She blinked, raising her head towards the person's face. Judging from the ironed dress pants he was wearing, it was an office worker. No surprise, they were in the middle of an office district, surrounded by tall office buildings.
In an environment where everyone is dressed in sophisticated attires, she sure looked..... different. A homeless begger different.
Standing with his back facing the sun, the light blinded her eyes as she glanced up, and she had to blink, squinting her eyes to look at his face. The light and the small wind blowing his hair gave him an angelic form. The more she looked, the familiar the guy's face became as he stared back at her with a look of astonishment etched on his face.
He was wearing a grey suit with a blue tie, his hair neatly combed back with a stray dancing in the air. She inhaled sharply, closing her eyes as she pinched her thigh, hoping to wake up from her delusional daydream. It's been so long since she last saw him. 6 years to be precise and he'd never sent her pictures of him so her brain conjured different types of his pictures. So far this is the best, and it made her heart clenched.
'No, it's over between us. He had annuled the engagement and I'm already married.' She thought. ' I can't allow myself to think about him. I can't keep hurting.' It was over between them, and she had vowed to never hurt because of him, so what's happening now? Her heart is in a mess, with the turbid of her emotions, her heart couldn't control it's emotions that was why. She concluded.
"Que?" He said slowly, equally shocked. "Que Mo Hendricks, it's you."
The voice that she had never thought she'd hear again assaulted her ears and she opened her eyes. It wasn't a figment of her imagination, it was indeed her Kevin.
No, just Kevin.
Thanks for all the votes guys, I appreciate it.
