''No. Tell me, you sounded strange on the phone last night. Is something wrong?'' Lilian pushed the coffee she ordered towards Inayah, ''I ordered for you''
''Thanks. I wanted to listen to the rest of your story. I was suddenly curious'' Inayah said and smiled.
''Just that?'' Lilian chuckled finding her cute.
''Yes. Will you tell me what happened between you two?'' Inayah asked again and muttered in her head, ''I need to know what happened so that I can decide whether to risk it or not''
''I will, but not here'' Lilian looked at the familiar car outside the window and said to Inayah.
''Where then?''
''Let's get out of here, first'' Lilian stood up and held Inayah's hand, leaving the place with her.
Lilian started talking as they walked around the shore of the sea. They were both walking barefooted while holding their sneakers in their hands.
''Do you know? This was my favourite place in the world?''
''Why?'' Inayah looked at her.
''Just because, I didn't really have a reason. I used to come here a lot, with Jas''
''Jas?''
''That's my nickname for my ex-boyfriend''
''I see''
''I was the one who asked for the breakup''
''Didn't you love him anymore?''
''I did and I still do. He is sick. He can't touch women. I know is a lame reason''
''No, is not…'' Inayah stopped herself. She was about to say he could touch women but stopped herself.
Lilian looked at her and asked, ''you don't think so?''
''No, I just… You said he couldn't touch women. That means he couldn't even touch you. No woman would be able to endure that. I know, it might sound weird coming from a high school girl, but, I don't think physical touch is something you can overlook in any relationship''
''You know, I even lied to him that I was getting married. Just to breakup with him''
''I don't support how you broke up with him but, I understand you''
''You understand me?'' Lilian stopped walking and turned to face her.
''Yes. Does it surprise you?''
''You're the first person to tell me this. Nobody understood me. No one even cared to ask me''
''Maybe our meeting is fated''
''At first I thought there was something wrong with me. The man I loved couldn't even kiss me. If I touch him; he will suddenly develop rashes and we have to go to the hospital. I wanted to be sure I wasn't the problem; so, I cheated''
''You cheated on him?''
''I kissed someone''
''Who?''
''I don't even know him'' Lilian replied and Inayah laughed.
''You don't even know him? Are you for real?''
''Yes. I think I was drunk''
''Miss, I thought I was the only weird one but, it looks like I'm surrounded by weird adults alone. How could you kiss someone you don't know…that too when you were drunk'' Inayah shook her head.
''I know, right?''
''So, what happened next?''
''I keep dreaming about him. That faceless man''
''Could you…no...it can't be, right?''
''You're right. It seems I might like someone else now. I know I shouldn't do this to my ex-boyfriend but, I can't seem to get that faceless man out of my mind. The only thing I have of him is a pendant''
''A pendant?''
''Yes, and is driving me crazy. I can't even tell my ex-boyfriend the truth. He even came to me and told me he has found a cure and that we should get back together. I couldn't even be honest to him; my ex-boyfriend''
''You should tell him the truth. Maybe he is still waiting because he thinks he needs to make it up to you''
''Now, you know. I've told you everything''

''Isn't it also time for you to tell me who you really are?'' Lilian asked and Inayah's hands quivered.
''Me?'' she looked at Lilian.
''I was curious about a girl my ex-boyfriend spoke about. So, I did some digging and I found out that it was you''
''Since when, have you know about me?''

''I was standing outside your house when your call came. I was curious about the glass ceilings mansion and I asked my secretary to investigate who the owner is. I was worried that the owner might give you problems, but I found out that it was for Jasper. I met him at the hospital, the day I came, so I investigated you and last night, I found out''
''Mr. Miles told me about you''
''He did?''
''Yes''
''Then, you must be really important to him. Jasper doesn't talk about his past to anyone that easily''
''Is that going…to destroy our friendship?'' Inayah asked cautiously.
''Can it destroy our friendship?'' Lilian threw the question back at Inayah.
''No. I don't want to lose a friend'' Inayah shook her head.
''Me too'' Lilian sat down on the sand.
''Then, let's not talk about him. Let's forget about him and be friends''
''I don't think we can do that, but, we can't avoid talking about him''
''I was scared. I didn't know what to do when I found out that you had such a relationship with him''
''I thought you would call me a bitch and maybe cuss at me''
''I thought you would think I got close to you for a reason''
''I thought I would lose someone I've come to cherish''
''I was so scared''
''Me too. Inayah''
''Yes''
''You're a very strange kid, you know that?''
''I know. Who would have thought, that in this life, I would become friends with you? Maybe I really did save my country before'' Inayah laid beside her.

''Life can be surprising. Who would have thought that, in my second life I would be so fortunate? Who would have thought, that I would even become friends with Lilian, the ex-girlfriend of Jasper? Is all this happiness real? I'm scared, that this might be a dream. I don't want to wake up. I want to be lost in this dream forever. A world where I won't have to fight with exes''
Inayah walked out of the house and saw her aunt and Clara waiting for her by the car.
''Oh, how I missed you, my family'' Inayah hugged both her aunt and cousin tightly.
''Why are you acting so weird?'' Clara asked.
''Ayah, are you alright?'' Miss Gladys also asked.
''Yes, aunt. I just missed you. I can't wait to get to school'' she got into the back seat first and said to them, ''let's go!''
''She is definitely onto something high. Mom, I'm sitting at the back''
As soon as they got to school, Inayah went around hugging her friends and handing out chocolates that she bought the other day to them.
Clara stood up from her desk and went to sit on Bertha's table.
''What is wrong with her?'' Bertha asked.
''I don't know'' Clara shrugged her shoulders.
''She seems so happy'' Sandra said as she looked at Inayah keenly.
''You came with her, did something good happen to her?'' Bertha asked and turned to look at Clara.
''Since this morning, she has been acting this strange. I have no idea what is going on with her. She hugged me and my mom this morning''
