They said they had freedom; that they could move around, but she felt their eyes on them. They were watched like animals in a zoo, penetrating gazes watched them intently day and night. 

If there was something Nessa learned lately, it was the fact that her mother, Delphine, was crazy and Christopher was a psychopath. It now hit her the memory from when she was young, that strange woman that had kidnapped her and to think she was her biological mother. 

Although Nessa had been mad that Jenny hid and separated her from her biological mother, she - Nessa - clearly could now understand why the woman did so in the first place - Delphine was crazy. Nessa was scared of her mother Delphine and what she could do to her if she goes contrary to her plans.
