The main war between Nessa and Adrian was about who would choose the room on the first floor. There were two rooms upstairs and their mom had called dibs to one, leaving them the other to fight over.
"I deserve that room because I'm your elder sister " Nessa claimed.
"No, I deserve it because I got to it first " Adrian countered.
One might ask, what was so special about the room? Simple, it's connected to a balcony that gives an ample view of the city plus the fact it had an en suite bathroom- it was worth dying for.
"Let's put it to a vote, Rex and mom would vote for who is entitled to live up there," Nessa proposed.
"Don't drag me into your mess, I love you kids equally but Adrian, Nessa's your sister and an elder at that one, so her word is the law" Their mother who stumbled upon their argument made her stand clear.
"You're always in support of her!" Adrian complained.
"See? Just as I just said " She sent him a knowing look, reminding him of her I-love-everyone-equally comment seconds ago.
Nessa punched the air victoriously, a smirk forming on the corner of her mouth.
"Victory is mine" she declared, rubbing it all over his face.
"Seriously Rex" Adrain who wasn't satisfied with the result of the verdict hassled the little boy, "Hey, buddy, who do you vote for?"
Rex snorted, "Of course Nessa"
His jaw dropped," What happened to our bro code?"
"Failed the moment you let Charlie eat my coat"
"But I was busy," he claimed.
"Yeah, busy with your selfie" Rex snorted, picked up his luggage, and urged Charlie," Come-on boy let's go"
The dog followed after him while Nessa kept on making mocking faces at Adrian.
"You won this round but not the other" he swore, fists clenched on his sides determinedly.
"We'll see" she struck out her tongue at him delightfully.
Yeah, welcome to the Evansville family where Nessa and Adrian quibbled like cats and dogs. Both siblings were always in competition even over the smallest thing like toothpaste, pegs, dishes, you name it.
But do not be mistaken, they loved each other to the bones. They just found annoying one other to death entertaining and their way of life; it was their crazy everyday norm.
Nessa walked into her conquered room and as expected, it was more spacious than the rooms on the lower floor.
The wall was painted a soothing shade of lavender with topaz providing coziness to the room while the ceiling was a slightly lighter version of lavender. Ambient lighting lit the whole room though there was a small lamp on the bedside table for reading. The zebra print rug resting on the polished oakwood floor added texture to Nessa's bedroom, including her dresser with built-in storage underneath and her queen-sized bed.
Left with no choice, the girl began to unpack. Arranging her clothes in the wardrobe and hanging some family pictures- that didn't feature daddy- on the wall.
As if on cue, the moment she was done with unpacking was the same time her mom called her down for dinner.
It was late already making this current meal the last for the day and as usual, their mom had cooked a feast. All the foods on the long rectangular table were healthy-looking, not to mention, mouth-watering which wasn't surprising since her mom worked as a chef.
"Wow," Nessa exclaimed, pulled out a seat, and sat down without wasting time. Just the smell of the dishes alone made her mouth water.
"Take that camera away from the table" Her mom warned Adrian who was busy taking pictures of himself and the foods on the table.
"Idiot" She couldn't help but call him.
"You should be grateful that you swim in the same gene pool as this handsome face" Adrian told her, fanning his face while still puckering his lips and taking more shots.
Nessa facepalmed. Honestly speaking, her brother was not even that handsome - so she thinks. She wondered what his ten thousand plus Instagram followers saw in him.
Her brother took her mother's look; he was almost a replica. Their mom Jenny, was a beautiful petite brunette with these warm amber eyes, unlike Adrain who had added ombre highlights to his brown hair.
The boy wore his hair in a messy quiff with a few loose strands falling over his left eye - an act she guessed he purposely did to add a sensual effect. Yep, she had to live with a brother excessively self-absorbed about his looks.
Nessa wasn't a plain mary jane either but she was a redhead. A feature she had no idea who she had inherited from, but her mom told her they had a redhead from her side of the family.
She wasn't drop-dead gorgeous but beautiful enough to turn heads - or make them stare at her backside. Nessa was slim yet had this incredibly curvaceous ass that had attracted more negative than positive attention so far.
With her baby blue eyes and long legs, she was confident of winning a suitable place in a beauty contest.
Rex was a mix of their father and mother's genes altogether. The boy inherited blonde hair from their father's side of the family and Jenny's amber eyes.
After a quick exchange of words between siblings, they focused on their meal.
Nessa had just been chewing on her sandwich when her grinding action slowed down with a scrunched-up expression.
"What the hell?" She pulled out a strand of hair from her mouth. Did she just eat that? A look at the unique strand of hair, the girl knew instantly the perpetrator of the crime.
"Eww" Rex made a gagging action.
Nessa's face distorted uglily, she banged her hand on the dining table startling everyone.
Her furious eyes settled on Adrian, "Did you visit the kitchen with your camera while mom was cooking dinner?"
Due to the fact, their mom was a celebrity chef, her egoistic brother Adrian normally takes video snippets of the cooking process which he uploads on the internet for his obsessed fans to fawn over. But this time, judging from the evidence in hand, he walked into the kitchen without wearing a hairnet.
"Yeah, I did" He answered with a blank stare, "Why do you ask…" his gaze rested on the hair she brought up to his face.
"Oh, this, " He said as if it was nothing, "My hair must have shaded but you should be happy"
"What?" She was dumbfounded.
"Most of my fans are dying to have a piece of me" He even dared to grin as if he had done an applaudable job.
This time, Nessa's anger reached the boiling point.
"You self-centered son of a biscuit!"
