章 5: PUNISHMENT
"It doesn't matter. Because in summary all I can say is..... Welcome to your knew home."
My stomach growled and I felt my insides twist at the same time. I dont know if it was from the shock or the starvation. It was past breakfast time and I hadn't had anything to eat since I woke up that morning. And as if starving wasn't enough, this stupid man had the audasity to claim that he is Davin Vindwell, the Lord of all kings. He even said this is my new home. Who does he think he is?
"Little birdie.... you are forgetting that I am still here." Davin said to me. " You are staring as if you want to kill me."
"Maybe that is because I do want to kill you." I spat at him without even realising it. Even if this man wasn't Lord Vindwell, I still didn't know who he was and where he took me so I had to be careful with what I do or say around him.
"Oh so you are planing on murdering me."
"Oh no not murder you, I'm just going to slaughter you like the animal that you are." I couldn't hold myself back
"Are you sure you would do that to a man this good looking?" Davin tilted him head to the side and smirked.His head was leaning on his hand which was leaning on the arm rest of the throne.
"Well I would do it since he's keeping me starved."
"Oh right. I forgot that you haven't eaten birdie."
He turned his head to one of the guards stationed by the doors."Tell Matilda to come here at once." He ordered the guard with a serious voice.
It didn't take long before the woman who brought me the clothes, whom I guess might be Matilda, came into the room. She came to stand beside me and bowed her head low.
"I am at your service my Lord." Matilda said to Lord Vindwell.He then nodded his head and Matilda stood up straight.
"Take her to the kitchen and give her something to do so she would keep her mind occupied and not think about her empty stomach." Davin looked me straight in the eyes as he said this. "Take it as your first punishment for being rude to me. Matilda?"
"Yes my Lord."
"Show her the way. And dont you dare give her any food without my order unless you want me to feed you to the wolves. You are dismissed." This man was insane. I am pretty sure half of his brain was empty.
"Follow me this way please." I just stood there and glared at him without moving from where I stood. 'Is he seriously going to starve me?' I thought to myself.
"Your joking right?" He didn't reply to me. He instead just stated at me with a blank look on his face. "And you expect me to not be rude to you when you want to starve me to death?"
" Oh no don't start pointing fingers now just do as you are told and food will be given to you. And more over you're the one who was rude to me first." The side of his lips pulled up.
I was too hungry to argue with him and so I followed Matilda. After walking along the corridors and hall ways for some time, we finally reached the kitchen. The kitchen was so very big, even bigger than the one back home.
"Rose!" Matilda called out to one of the girl servants in the kitchen. "Give her all the dishes that were used for today's breakfast."
"Yes ma'am." said Rose. "Come on follow me this way." Rose held my wrist and brought me to another part of the kitchen which had a lot of dirty dishes. She looked to be around my age. "Here we are. You can start cleaning the ones in the sink and when you are done you with those just call me and I'll show you which will be next."
I soaked the dishes in water and moved the water around a little to remove the dirt.
"What are you doing?" I heard Rose ask from behind me.
"Washing the dishes of course."
"You might be washing them but you are not cleaning them." She came and stood by me and showed me how to use the sponge to make the dishes clean. " That is how you clean a dish. Make sure they are really clean else Matilda will make you do them again. Just call my name if you need anything. " She then headed back to the small door that separated the cooking room of the kitchen from the cleaning room.
"Oh my name is Rose by the way." Sha said before she could go through the door and offered me a kind smile.
"I'm Lillian but you can call me Lilly." I returned her smile with my own.
I continued cleaning the dishes just as Rose had shown me. These dishes were way too much to be just for breakfast. Its like they had a banquet and these were the utensils used. How much did that stupid man eat for him to waste this much dishes?
After hours of dish washing, I was finally done with them. It was now past lunch time. I felt weak since I used up all my energy the day before while running from the soldiers. The dish washing only made me weaker especially since there where so many dishes to be cleaned.
Today was supposed to be the day I get wedded to that dumb prince William. I wonder how he took it that I ran off? I would rather be a servant here than be his wife but that doesn't mean I plan to stay here for long. I was going to escape from here just like I did home.
I went to the cooking room to look for something to eat. I started opening the pots and as soon as I heard the smell of the food, my mouth watered .
"What are you doing?" Matilda startled me and I dropped the lead that I held in my hand. " The lord said no food for you unless he gives the order."
"But I haven't had anything to eat since I woke up."
"Well if I had a choice, I would have given you the food a long time ago. But you see in this case I don't. If I do give you the food he might kill me like he did to the last head maid."
"Why did he kill the head maid?" I asked out of curiosity.
"I am not allowed to tell you that but he said I should bring you to him when you are done. Since you have finished the work you were given, I will bring you to him.... But first you need to change your clothes." she said it while pointing to the lower part of the dress.
The dress I was wearing was drenched in water. Since I had never once in my life done the dishes before, I splashed water all over me while cleaning them so the lower part of the dress I wore was wet.
Matilda took me back to the servants' quarters and gave some clean and dry clothes. The clothes were a servant uniform as I noticed that most of the maids clothes were made of the same material.
After changing the clothes, Matilda lead me back to Davin. While walking through the castle, I tried remembering the turns we made in the corridors and hall ways.
We finally arived at the doors with dragons on them. Matilda announced our presence and the guards opened the doors for us. We walked in the room and found some of the chairs which were alined on the sides of the room, occupied. It looked like there was a meeting going on.
"The lord said we wait here till he is done with his meeting." Matilda whispered to me and we stood there waiting.
