章 4: Chapter 2: Separation
The cave where Ray stayed, contained a narrow passage way which lead to a broad chamber inside. Ray's mother and brother stood at the middle of the chamber with a grave expression. The slight tremor coming from outside and the flickering blue light in the air made the atmosphere somehow tense. Suddenly at the junction of the entrance and the chamber a thin membrane like curtain appeared. It glowed more and more brightly as time passed. The more it glowed the more pale and grave the mother and son appeared. After a while, there was a slight crack in the curtain. The crack gave birth to many more small cracks like a spider's net.
" Impossible!!" Ray's mother exclaimed. Her beautiful green eyes which were full of determination gradually became panic stricken. " Why is he here?"
"Mom, what happened?" Lucas had never seen her mother's such panic stricken expression before. Even when her inner core was damaged due to some vicious schemes and she had to give birth to Ray prematurely in a primitive cave she remained strong. She still remained strong when after being born Ray went into a coma. She had exhausted her healing powers to hold onto Ray's life.
But now, seeing his mother's such expression he knew the severity of the matter.
" Mom-"
Hearing Lucas's voice Ray's mother came back to sense. She again determined herself. She kneeled down to her son's level and spoke to him eye to eye, " Listen carefully Lucas, the artefact i used to set up the magic barrier at the entrance of the chamber is so powerful that even your Uncle Jhon has to try hard for more than half an hour to break it. But it isn't even one minute and the barrier is about to break. In the four empire only your father and that man....king Stephen can break it so quickly."
She bit her lip to remain calm.
" King Stephen has come here personally. we can't hide Ray with the invisibility spell anymore. It's useless against him. He is in late warrior stage after all. There's only one way. I don't even know it will work or not"
Lucas had a bad premonition.
" As soon as the barrier break i will use the remaining power i have to distract him and create a path for you. You will take Ray and run away as fast as you can."
"No....mom let's run away together." his eyes were a little red.
"My child, listen to mom, the enemy is too powerful. And king Stephen will not kill me if i get caught but if he get hold of your brother, he will kill him. My son you have to protect your little brother.okay?" She coaxed him.
"Okay.... But you have to promise me that you will remain safe and come back to me." His voice quivered. He suppressed the upcoming sobs forcefully. His mother caressed his face gently," Hmm..I promise. Hurry now. Go to Ray."
There was more and more cracks in the barrier. Lucas quickly ran to Ray and dispelled the invisibility barrier and hold the basket in his bosom. He was faced with Ray's questioning eyes.
Speaking of Ray, at first he could understand the words spoken by his brother and mom. But as soon as his mother kneeled down to face his brother, Ray's view was completely blocked by his brother's head. Afterwards it was only silence. But he had seen his mother's panic stricken, helpless face. He could guess that something bad happened.
He also had seen the glass like barrier at the entrance which was almost broken. He had already accepted the fact that, this was a fantasy world. So he wasn't that surprised but the fact was it was being forcefully broken!! And from his mother's expression he could guess the enemy was powerful. But the hateful truth was he could do nothing to help her.
As soon as Lucas held Ray's basket in his embrace the barrier broke. Ray's mother shouted, "now!!".Lucas was also ready for run. But she hadn't raised her hand to cast magic yet, when she smelt a sweet scent surrounding her. She panicked and shouted to Lucas," Lucas, don't breath." But it was already too late. She felt her legs, hands and tongue grew numb. Her voice and magic veins were also blocked. She collapsed on the ground with only her eyes wide open.
Lucas also collapsed. His hand was still holding the basket.
Soon there was a steady footstep followed by some other footsteps. The footsteps stopped after reaching some distance in the chamber. Ray couldn't move his neck cleanly to see the figures. He was anxious for his brother and mom. He didn't know why but the air borne poison didn't affect him. So he didn't know the effect of the poison on the body.
At this moment the man leading the group chuckled and after a moment laughed out hysterically. Then as if controlling himself with great effort he spoke," Huh..Alexandra how do you like my paralyzing poison? I just knew you would do something troublesome if I confront you directly. So as the gentleman I am, I didn't want to hurt your beautiful self. what if it left a scar??...ha ha ha..."
He paused for sometime. Then after a while he spoke thinking something," Actually I didn't want to paralyze you. But knowing your nature you won't just handover your youngest boy if only I ask you, right?"
After that his voice became a little sad. He said, " Alexandra oh Alexandra, why..why did you choose Arnold over me. If you give me a child like your youngest son then the child must have lived."
Ray was sure the man had a screw loose in his head. But he came to the conclusion that, the man wanted to kill him and he could do nothing about it. He finally had a mother, a family. It seemed he was going to loose it soon. He sighed internally, then thought self mockingly that he was an assassin in his last life. His hands were covered with blood. How could a sinful man like him had a blissful life? But this man didn't seem to want to kill his brother and mother. Then that's fine.
The man ordered one of his man, " Bring the child to me".
"Yes your highness" the follower quickly responded.The follower approached and snatched the basket. Lucas glared at him. If gaze could kill then the follower would have died a few times over. Ray could only utter some unexplainable gibberish to reveal his reluctance. He moved his uncontrollable limbs.
"ai..ai.ugh.uwa...!!"
The follower almost dropped him because of the crying. He didn't expect Ray to be unaffected by the poison. He delivered the basket to the leader.
The man held the basket. This was the first time he looked at the man. The man was somewhat handsome but his unkept red hair, deep dark circles and somewhat creepy expression ruined his facial features. He wore a whole body exquisitely curved armour but it really didn't suit him. The man also looked at him smiling creepily.
" My king, what should we do with the remaining people." one of subordinate asked.
"Just leave them alone" he casually said.
'So this man is a king, how unbelievable', Ray thought. Then he looked at his mother with great effort. She was also staring at him silently, teardrops constantly flowing from her eyes. He wanted to console her but could only smile at her. He reached out his one hand from the basket to assure her.
"daw..wa..wa" don't worry.
The king laughed," seriously Alexandra, your son is a monster. Even without any Antidote he can resist the poison. Look, how he is moving his limbs. How about i cut his limbs?"
'oi,oi even if you want to cut my limbs, don't say it in front of her.' Ray thought angrily.
Alexandra's face whitened in fear. She looked at him with hate and fear in her eyes.
The king laughed again, this time more loudly," Just kidding. Don't worry I won't kill him. Even if I kill him he will be reborn again until his soul is destroyed. After all he is protected by the goddess. At least in this world he can't be killed until he served the purpose of his birth." He paused then laughed viewing his full 16pairs of teeth with full glory.
"So I am sending him to a world where life have been destroyed. There I hope he won't be able to live another single second. And the goddess can't also save him there. As the world was already destroyed his soul will disintegrate without any god's help."
Alexandra's eyes widened. Tears dropped uncontrollably.
" As for how I am going to do it, well I had found a amazing artefact back in our school days in an ancient ruins. You remember, I was going to give you a gift to please you but you rejected? Well that was the artefact I wanted to give you." He laughed again, "Do you regret it? hahaha...."
" Well, enough talking. I better hurry. The scheme I used to fool Arnold will not last long. Goodbye Alexandra"
With that the king turned around. Ray's vision also got blocked. But before that he gave his mother a sweet smile.
Alexandra looked at the distance until his vision blurred with teardrops.
Ray who had been separated from his newfound happiness thought," So, I am about to go through a existence wipe huh....Am I not protected by the goddess? Where is she? Huh what am I even thinking? hahaha"
Ray listened to the rain and thought about his upcoming fate while boarding the carriage with the king.
