章 3: Chapter 1 : The strange world where magic exists
The vicious sound of lightning startled Zero awake. His vision was still blurred. He was confused. Hadn't he died? But it was crystal clear that he was still breathing. Had the association still not given up on him? His heart grew cold. He wanted to stand up.....but suddenly he felt something wasn't quite right. He couldn't control his limbs. As his vision became clear slowly the first thing he did was examining his body. He was suspicious of the association. They might have done something for further torture. But the result was earth shattering. The hands in front of him were so small that if not careful enough it might break with a little force. This was clearly not his hand but why he felt that the hands was a part of his own body. Zero who had never panicked in front of danger, panicked a little.
"uwa...ga ..ugh..uwaya??!!!!" Zero's previous shock hadn't subsided yet and another one came to haunt him. He couldn't speak. He suddenly had a bad premonition. Suddenly there was a rustling sound of someone moving nearby. Zero wanted to move his head to the side to see the source of the sound but his neck seemed so fragile that he could barely control it's movement. He had never felt so vulnerable before.
"Actually, what the heck happened?" Zero thought.
After thoroughly summarizing the whole situation he actually had drawn a conclusion. Had he been reborn in a child? But how could it even possible? He had heard this type of reincarnation stories from miss Eleana before. But that was just a story. His thoughts were disrupted as a giant face suddenly covered his view.
"uwagha...ai??!!" Zero was so surprised that some gibberish were uncontrollably leaked out from his mouth. He was shocked not because he was afraid but for he didn't sense any kind of presence from this person or the boy. Yes it was a boy but from Zero's perspective he seemed a giant.
The boy was about 9 to 10 years old. He had shining golden hair and a pair of sapphire blue eyes like the most precious gems glittering brightly. His baby fat still hadn't gone but that didn't hide his attractive features. Conclusion, he will be a lady killer in the future. At this moment there was a smile blooming on his face indicating his pure joy. He was about to shout but controlled himself and whispered to someone slowly, "Mom, get up, look little brother has awoken....mom..mom.."
At this moment he confirmed he was reborn in a child's body. The language the boy was using , was new to him but he somehow understood it. Not only understand it but the characters, the grammar of the language he could understand it all.
Suddenly he heard a voice of a woman, as sweet as honey, as pleasant and soothing as the flowing spring. Her voice held a little hint of worry and expectation mixed with it. But the strange thing was zero couldn't perceive her presence too. Then as if something clicked in his mind. The boy called him as "little brother". Didn't that mean the boy's mom was his mom too. He was too overjoyed to think the small unsolved matters. To have a mom was his last life's heartfelt wish after all.
"Really Lucas?"The woman asked excitedly.
" Yes mom. You lie down. You are still too tired after giving birth to little brother. And you have exhausted your magic for continuously providing healing energy to little brother when he was in coma for two days .....if not for the promise that i will wake you up if little bother is awaked, i wouldn't wake you up" The boy pouted.
Zero picked up the words ,"magic" and "healing energy" but didn't give much thought. He was now eagerly waiting to meet his mom.
"Mom...you don't have to get up. I am bringing little brother's basket to you" The boy said.
"Basket?"Zero thought." So he is being kept in a basket? Is his family poor?" But he noticed that the boy or his big brother's clothes were of superb quality silk, just a little bit dirty And also the clothes upon which he were sleeping seemed so soft. Now that he had calmed down he looked at ceiling of the place where he was staying. It was clearly made up of earth and stone. He was speechless. The place was actually a cave. Was his family so poor that they have to live in a cave? .
"....."
Lucas brought the basket on his lap as carefully as he could like he was holding the most precious thing in the whole world. Zero felt warm in his heart. while moving, his eyes caught something unexplainable. And he was utterly dumbfounded. There was a blue light floating silently which illuminated the whole cave. There was no electricity or burning source around it. Zero screamed in his mind," Damn, it was literally floating". But the next moment all his attention was concentrated on the lying woman, his mom. She seemed to be in her early twenties. She was supporting herself on the uneven cave wall. Her hair was light green which were curled against her like soft green tendrils until her waist. Her small exquisite face was a little pale due to tiredness. Her eyes were also green with a golden touch. As soon as his eyes met hers he felt an unexplainable kinship towards her.
"So that was my mother. So beautiful like an angel"Zero thought.
Lucas placed the basket between him and his mother. Zero looked at his mother. She seemed so tired. But he couldn't do anything to remove it . He could only smile at her to show his happiness of their first meeting.
"oh my,.. look Lucas, your brother is smiling. so cute" his mom said childishly.
"Yes, he is an angel" Lucas said as if it was a matter of fact.
"His eyes are of different colours, look. one golden and one light red"his mom said gently. She pocked his soft cheek with one finger and Zero quickly grabbed it instinctively.
"And with his silver hair it matches perfectly with his face. Dad and sister still haven't seen him. I am the first. hehehe....."Lucas laughed foolishly.
His mother chuckled.
"mom, let's name him"
"hmm...ok, let's hear about my eldest son's opinion." his mom said playfully.
Lucas thought with solemn face as if the whole world's responsibility had been given upon him. After a while he said,
"Mom, mine and sister's name both bear the meaning of light.let's name him after light too. And as he is younger than us let's name him Ray,of which light is consisted."
His mom was amused by his son's careful thinking.
" Lucas, Leora and Ray....hmm....nice...Then from now his name will be Ray." she smiled. Then out of nowhere she brought out a simple chain which only had a star shaped pendant and a blue gemstone embedded in it. She helped Zero or Ray fix the necklace around him.
"The seer gave me the necklace. She said as soon as he was named make him wear the necklace" Then she faced zero and said,"honey it will hurt a bit. Forgive mommy. okay?"
After saying this she quickly pricked his small finger and dropped a blood drop on the small blue gem. The blood was soon absorbed. Ray was amazed. First the light, now this phenomenon. It was like magic. But he was still naive. He saw his mother gathering light in her hand and holding it near his pricked finger and his finger was healed in an instant. He was again dumbfounded. So not only he was reborn but also traveled to a strange world where magic existed.
"My Ray is such a good boy. He didn't cry a bit."
"Of course, he is my brother after all" Lucas said proudly.
"you say that but-" She abruptly stopped. Her eyes became sharp and cold from gentle. Ray was startled at the change. His mother said in a firm voice"Lucas, they are here. Hurry, you take Ray on his previous place. The magic density is high there. set up the invisibility spell around Ray. I will arrange some spell to stall time"
Lucas didn't waste time. He set up the invisibility spell in a practiced manner. After setting the barrier he stood beside his mother.
"mom.."
"Finished?"
"yes"
"....."
"....."
"Are you afraid my child?"
"No" He looked determined."We will definitely protect Ray"
Ray who was inside the barrier couldn't hear anything, not even the sound of rain outside. But this time he could clearly see his brother and mother. He read their lips and understood their words. His heart was warm. He didn't know the reason but they were protecting him. This kind of warmth, he hadn't felt for ages.
Outside the barrier the mother and son anxiously waited for the unknown danger. Then suddenly they felt that the cave was shaking with slight tremor. The spell at the entrance had been broken.
