章 11: Unknown connection...

Olivia huffed and was about to say something when suddenly she bumped into someone, making her almost fall on her butt..

However, before she could even touch the ground, Katherine already held her tight by her arms, preventing her from falling down..

"Are you okay?" Katherine asked Olivia, balancing her.

"Yeah.. I'm fine. No need to worry.." Olivia assured her, holding Katherine's hand.

"I'm sorry kids. It was absolutely my fault that I wasn't looking at my front while walking on the street. I hope, you didn't get hurt." The old man who had bumped into them, apologized sincerely.

Shaking her head with a smile, Katherine said, "No problem."

The old man also smiled back at her in response. But before he could leave from there, Katherine's next words made him stop in his steps midway..

Katherine who had noticed the drained out look that the old man had on his face, couldn't help but ask, "Excuse me, sir? Are you fine? You seemed to look a little bit pale."

Turning towards her, the old man gazed at her with a little bit of amusement in his eyes and replied a few seconds later, "Yeah.. I'm fine. Just a little bit low."

"Do you want any kind of help from us, Sir?" Katherine asked with concern in her eyes for the aged man.

"No need, daughter. Actually, I've already booked a cab. It'll arrive here at any moment now. " He said, smilingly.

Katherine nodded and saw him walking away from there. She felt a little bit of familiarity with him but couldn't able to remember exactly where she had seen him.

Shrugging her shoulders, she told Olivia, "Lets go."

"Yeah.. Already we're late for our lunch. If we don't go now, then our lunch break will end and we'll have to stay hungry till dinner time. And you already know that I turn into a monster whenever I get hungry." Olivia joked, making Katherine chuckle at her.

But before they could take even a single step forward, a sudden crashing sound made them stop in their tracks as both of the friends instantly snapped their head towards the source of the loud noise, only to get completely shocked by the whole view..

There was a man in his late sixties, lying on the road as a bike had almost ran into him, causing an unfortunate accident.

"Isn't he the same person with whom I just collided?" An exasperated Olivia asked.

Katherine whose eyes were already widened in shock, hurriedly said, "Yes.. He seemed to be the same one. Let's rush there to check what happened."

Olivia agreed as both friends literally ran towards the accident place where people had already started gathering up..

Moving aside those useless onlookers who was only busy in watching the scene, without trying to help them, Katherine reached near the old man and bent down on her knees to check his pulse.

He was already covered with blood as his forehead hit the pitch directly because of the sudden fall..

Although he was completely unconscious but was at least breathing finely which made Katherine sigh in relief.

"Oh My God! He's bleeding so much. And that bastard biker didn't even think of stopping for a while to help him and just fled away like a scary boo!" Olivia cursed loudly, making everyone look at her with amusement.

Olivia gave all of them a glare and growled at them, "What are you looking at like that? As I give you guys a damn! None of you have even an ounce of humanity to help this poor man, but just can stand like statues and enjoy the show."

Katherine who was trying very hard to bring him back to consciousness, shouted at her best friend, "Oly.. You can fight later. Now call the ambulance. We need to take him to the hospital immediately. His pulse is dropping with every passing second."

Olivia nodded her head and did whatever her friend had asked for, without arguing any further.

Few minutes later, the ambulance finally came and Katherine too went with them before guiding Olivia, "You go back to office and inform the manager about my leave. I'll handle this alone."

Hospital…

"Ma'am.. We got to know about his identity just now. His name is Joseph Jones. We've already informed about his accident to his friend's family...

They will be arriving here anytime soon. You can leave if you want now as the treatment has already started.." One nurse informed Katherine who was sitting in the waiting room, outside of the operation theatre.

Katherine shook her head in denial and said, "No.. I'll be staying here until they come. I won't get relief otherwise."

The nurse nodded her head and said, "As you wish, Ma'am."

Katherine just kept chanting prayers to God for the safety of the person whom she had known from the past few hours yet felt a huge kind of unknown connection with him..

She was still waiting for any news when she heard a very familiar voice, asking the receptionist, "Can you please tell me where the operation of Mr. Joseph Jones is going on?"

"Yes sir.. It's there.." The reception pointed towards the way where Katherine was already sitting.

As they turned towards the direction of the operation theatre, Katherine couldn't help herself but whisper in utter shock, "Dad…"
