章 27: Rank F Dungeon (1)

Shinobi Academy classes went on as per usual the day after I revealed my Sharingan to Sasuke. He didn't look any different from yesterday, still the same brooding, quiet kid. But I did notice a lot of furtive glances thrown my way throughout the lessons. Hopefully, no one else noticed, or they just might get the wrong idea.

He didn't seem eager to continue our discussion from the day before, so I gave him the space and time he needed to properly process his thoughts. I was sure my Uchiha descent was a shocking revelation for Sasuke, and for now he needed the room mediate the conflicting realities he was thrusted in.

There were no ANBU who showed up at my doorstep or anything like that nor did I observe any increased surveillance on me, so it was safe to say Sasuke kept to his promise of not revealing my secret. I was still slightly worried that there was a chance he would confide in the village leaders or the chunin instructors regarding my parentage, but all I could do was adopt a 'wait-and-see' approach.

Kaori had yet to rejoin the Shinobi Academy after her stay in the hospital. The doctors gave her medical leave up to 2 weeks but provided her the option to return to class whenever she felt comfortable. The past few days the girl had been visiting the village-assigned counsellor to talk about the traumatic experience she had gone through. But other than that, she usually shut her herself in her own room and wasn't keen on anyone visiting – not even me.

I was more than happy to give the girl some distance for her to recover from her trauma. Not to be insensitive but, to be brutally honest, I had better things to do with my time. For instance training my new skills.

The Bukijutsu scroll I received yesterday, [Myriad Armament Fiend] wasn't an active skill like [Power Strike] that I automatically learned upon reading through the scroll. Rather, it was a training manual that showed me how to use a literal myriad of weaponry. Oddly timely since I had just acquired Jinchu-Maru, but it didn't matter either way.

The [Myriad Armament Fiend] was a technique scroll that taught the fundamental methods of wielding dozens of different weapons, such as the kusari-gama, quarterstaffs, gauntlets, spears, whips, every possible weapon you could imagine. There was even a section on fighting with a folding chair.

The system also created a new skill once I finished reading through the scroll and roughly understood how each weapon worked.

[Myriad Armament Fiend] (Passive) LVL: 1

Proficiency in an 'immeasurable' number of weapons.

+10% to physical damage when using a weapon

+10% to movement speed when using a weapon

Slim chance to deal critical hit when using a weapon

Once the skill was created, it was as if knowledge itself was injected into my brain as I suddenly knew how to use the kusari-gama I purchased at a level where I would not be considered an amateur. Not only the chain sickle, I was even able to brandish the katana with frightening ease when I unsheathed it.

It was as if the skill filled in the blanks in my knowledge when it came to handling weapons. Awfully convenient since that meant I wouldn't need to painstakingly learn how to use them over time. Heck, I could even embark upon the 'weapons master' route with this skill. It would be terrifying to see its effects once I reached max level with it.

Of course the description of 'immeasurable' was an exaggeration, seeing as how there were only guides to using dozens of different weapons – but to the uninitiated, it might as well be immeasurable if they saw pulling out and being able to use any and all sorts of weaponry.

So with my weapons properly stored in my inventory space, and free of the [Ruptured Muscles] debuff that had hampered my movement after a good night's sleep; I was ready to enter the [Uchiha Natural Dungeon].

I made my way to the Uchiha Clan compound after class and approached the gate. The notification window appeared before me once more.

[Do you wish to enter the [Uchiha Natural Dungeon]?]

[Please select which dungeon rank to enter:]

*You can only enter each dungeon once

Rank F (LVL Req: 1)

Rank E (LVL Req: 10)

Rank D (LVL Req: 20)

Rank C (LVL Req: 30)

Rank B (LVL Req: 40)

Rank A (LVL Req: 60)

I mulled over the options. I still wasn't sure what I would find in the dungeon once I entered but judging by how the level requirement for the lowest ranked dungeon was only level 1, I was relatively confident of at least emerging from it alive.

Furthermore, the asterisked description also gave me pause. I could only enter each dungeon once, meaning that if I wanted to maximize the benefits of the dungeon, I had to be certain I could clear it in one shot. Meaning, if I gave up half way and left the dungeon, it would only be a waste of the opportunity.

Resolving myself, I selected Rank F. I should be well prepared enough, and frankly over-levelled for a level 1 requirement dungeon.

The world around me suddenly shattered as though reality was formed from glass. And instantly, a different world took its place.

Even though it was still early afternoon when I arrived, the light from the sun that had been illuminating the area was replaced by the dull glow of moonlight. It was apparent that day had instantly shifted into night. I was still at the entrance of the Uchiha Clan compound, just that it was darker than before.

Just as I was getting my bearings from being suddenly transported in to the dungeon, a game alert window popped up.

[You have entered the [Uchiha Natural Dungeon] rank F dungeon!]

[Clear Condition: Eliminate the Boss.]

[Since this is your first time entering a dungeon, please take note of the following:]

1) You cannot exit the dungeon before it has been cleared

2) Time moves three times slower in the dungeon

3) You have a time limit of 24 hours to clear the dungeon before you are forcefully ejected

4) Being forcefully ejected will have consequences

[Congratulations! You have entered a dungeon for the first time!]

[Double EXP and loot has been applied for 24 hours!]

I read through the rules, pausing at the first one. I was not allowed to leave the dungeon voluntarily until either it has been cleared or the time limit was up. And being forcefully ejected would have as of yet unknown consequences. Which meant that before entering the dungeon, I had to make sure I was able to clear it otherwise I would be 'punished'.

Furthermore, since I only had one opportunity to enter any given dungeon, failing to clear any one would mean I would lose the opportunity to clear that particular dungeon. And seeing from how the system worked, that had to be some form of reward if I was able to clear every single one.

Next, time moved three times slower in the dungeon, which I assume in comparison to reality. That meant if I spent 24 hours in the [Uchiha Natural Dungeon], only 8 hours would pass in reality. Not a length of time that was particularly impressive if I wanted to exploit the time difference to train, especially with the 24 hour time limit, but enough so that I could slowly and methodically clear the dungeon if it proved to be challenging.

I was shaken from my thoughts by a low rumble a distance away. It was only now, after being distracted by the dungeon rules and the sudden shift in my whereabouts, that I realized beyond the gate where I was standing at, there were corpses littering the ground.

And it was also at this moment when the air shifted, so did the smell of what I could only assume to be rot and viscera assault my nose. I recoiled at the smell, spotting the blood that were splattered across walls and pooling on the ground.

Cautiously, I casted [Observe] on one of the corpses while removing Jinchu-Maru from my inventory, already spinning the weighted end. [Myriad Armament Fiend] had transplanted the knowledge on how to wield the exotic weapon, so I was more than comfortable with it in my hands even though this was the first time I had ever held it for any prolonged period of time.

[Undead Uchiha Civilian Lv 3]

HP: 500/500

CP: -

A corpse of a civilian belonging to the Uchiha clan that has been reanimated to walk upon the earth once more.

She thinks that you are food.

The zombie is weaker than you.

Jesus fucking Christ, are these… the people killed by Itachi during the Uchiha massacre? Are these all the corpses of people slain by the wayward Uchiha? Then that means…

Hastily, I used [Observe] on the other bodies littering the street. It was apparent that the rank F dungeon had a 'zombie' theme to it, possibly the entire [Uchiha Natural Dungeon] did too. Most likely the distinct dungeon ranks differentiated the kinds of zombie I would face and how strong they were when they were alive.

In the rank F dungeon, it seemed that I was to face undead civilians since all the corpses I used [Observe] on had roughly the same status as the first one I targeted. Their levels varied individually; there was even a level 1 zombie that resembled a small child. I had to physically withhold my gag reflex at the sight of the cold, motionless body of what was practically an infant caked in blood.

The highest levelled one I found was a level 6 adult man leaning against a wall. Before I could cast [Observe] on more zombies, at the same moment one of the bodies shook slightly. The next moment, it planted one arm on the ground and started pushing itself up.

Game start, I suppose.

I activated my Sharingan, gaining the crystal clear clarity of vision once more. It was a good chance to grind the skill up since my CP regen was more than enough to cover its CP cost. And unless I was going to start spamming jutsu or [Power Strike], my chakra reserve should prove sufficient for now.

There was no more time to waste as more and more of the zombies started moving. Although I was still slightly hesitant to deliver what needed to be a killing blow to these humanoid creatures, the Gamer's Mind cleared me of what doubt I still had left.

I swung the heavy metal weight of my kusari-gama, and lobbed it at the one closest to me, the one I first observed and who was starting to take its first steps. The iron weight went soaring through the sky before it came crushing down viciously on the head of the zombie, which instantly caved its skull with a sickening crunch.

+60 EXP

The undead civilian was instantly killed, and I watched as the corpse collapsed, then disintegrated into a small cloud of black smoke. Their dead bodies were not left lying on the floor, but it did leave behind a small, palm sized glowing orb floating in its place.

It was the first time I received EXP for defeating an enemy, which I could only theorize was either because it only happened in a dungeon, or the more like scenario that it was because I never killed any of the opponents I faced before.

I had no time to waste figuring out what that white orb was at the moment as by now the other undead, turning to look in my direction, were starting to move towards me. I pulled back the chain and tried stepping backwards to give myself more space but found out that I couldn't as an invisible barrier now closed off the still open gate of the clan compound. I could only go in further but could no longer go back the way I came from.

This told me a few things: one, the natural dungeon was a finite space, most likely covering the entire Uchiha clan compound, which wasn't a sizable piece of land but large enough that a single person like me would have to take some time combing through. Two, the plan I had to retreat into the forests should I find myself being overwhelmed had to be scrapped. Third, in a finite space with an unknown number of enemies hunting me, I could not be reckless with my actions without more information.

Due to the perimeter of the dungeon blockading my retreat, I could only bite down the rising anxiousness and wildly swung my chain. The spiked weight did its job brilliantly, tearing through the craniums of the zombies. If there was one thing years and years of consuming zombie entertainment had taught me, it was to aim for their heads.

I didn't even have to use [Power Strike] to reinforce my damage as my standard attacks were powerful enough, with the aid of the B ranked weapon, to smash through their skulls with ease. Furthermore, the Sharingan I kept active enhanced my vision and significantly improved my spatial awareness. The zombies that were already moving slowly looked like they were moving an inch a second through my doujutsu.

I felt like I was in full control of the chain and its weight with the Sharingan boosting my kinaesthetic control. It was easy, almost too easy, with how little effort I was putting into what I could only describe as being a slaughter.

Soon, every zombie in my immediate vicinity had turned into black smoke, leaving behind more glowing orbs of light in their wake. Taking a moment to check out the surroundings, I saw that there were no other zombies remaining, so I cautiously approached the white orbs and used [Observe] on one of them.

[Dropped loot]

Items dropped by monsters defeated in a dungeon

It was a brief but direct explanation that let me know exactly what it was. I reached out a hand to grasp the glowing orb before it disappeared, and in its place a notification window appeared.

[Loot gained:]

+210 ryo

Leather shoes

The dropped items automatically entered my inventory space, which from what I could guess held limitless storage space, not that I experimented too much with it. I had expected for money to be dropped by the enemies I killed in the dungeon, but to see it actually appear in my inventory space was sort of wild.

I briefly counted the number of loot orbs on the ground, totalling up to twenty two of them. If the remaining loot orbs gave the same level of rewards, I could only draw two conclusions: I was going to be filthy rich again and I could probably open up a second-hand clothing store by the end of this dungeon run.
