章 29: Worried About Myself
He extended his hand to her. "Du Tianxing. I am Min Yue's maternal cousin."
Li Ruyan stared at his hand for a second before she shook it. She felt the callouses in them, making her note that he was not a simple person.
Not only that, this man before her also owns a Rolls-Royce Phantom which is $457,750 and is around three million yuan. A not so little amount of money. Of course, the owner is expected to be someone with a prestigious background.
Li Ruyan was intimidated but she dared not show it or it might be used by the man as leverage against her.
In a battle, no matter when or where, she was taught not to show weakness, that even if she was bleeding, she must not act pitiful because people aren't kind and the only one who could help her is herself.
"Li Ruyan." She introduced. "I wonder what Mr. Du wants to talk about that he needs to drag me inside his car."
Du Tianxing took a cigarette and lighted it. He blew the smoke on her face, making her cough.
"Mr. Du!" Li Ruyan said with a bit of anger in tone. He stared at her with mockery and wrapped an arm around her waist, pulling her close to his chest.
She was so shocked that she could not speak for a second. Her eyes were wide as she stared at him with a stunned expression. She could smell the undesirable scent of cigarettes. She could also smell a masculine fragrance coming from him.
She was familiar with the perfume and realized that it was the same perfume that Min Yue was always using.
"This is extremely inappropriate!" Li Ruyan told Du Tianxing as she was about to remove his hand on her waist but his gaze flicked towards her and the more she tried to get away, the more he tightened his hold on her.
It was the same as being in quicksand. No matter how much she struggled, she was caught in the trap with no way out, and his grip only tightened the more she moved. Her only option was to remain still in hopes that the other party would let her go.
"Miss Li, you are a smart woman. You already saw that Min Yue is engaged to the young miss of the Yang family. Yang Liu, the CEO of Yang Corporation is not an ordinary person and you happen to offend him by interfering with his daughter's engagement. Do you think you can still stay afloat in the business circle after this?" Du Tianxing said to her in a casual manner but the weight in his words was clear in Li Ruyan's ears.
"He is just an old man. I'm not afraid of him." She grumbled under her breath but Du Tianxing was able to hear her. He chuckled, not sure if the woman in his arms was brave or stupid. Maybe it was both.
Now, he could really see her appeal. This was why Min Yue, that little cousin of his was enamored. Only this woman can say these things to that old fox.
"And, I did not interfere with anyone's engagement." Li Ruyan explained, leaning away from him. "Min Yue and I were in a relationship but he... suddenly got engaged and he wouldn't tell me why. Ah, that cheating bastard is making me angry!"
Li Ruyan's face turned beet red as she unconsciously let her emotions get the best of her.
Du Tianxing's eyes were sparkling and he inhaled from his cancer stick before exhaling at Li Ruyan's face for the second time.
"Mr. Du! This is very rude of you. Don't you know that smoking is bad for human health?"
Du Tianxing smiled. "Why, Miss Li... Are you worried about me?"
Li Ruyan's face wrinkled as she fanned the smoke away. "No. I am worried about myself. It's because second-hand smoking is dangerous for adults who have never smoked."
Du Tianxing's eyes lit up with interest. "Miss Li has never tried smoking before?"
"That is none of your business, Mr. Du. Now, will you please unhand me?"
Li Ruyan felt that she really encountered a strange man. She was not even sure if this was really Min Yue's cousin but as she looked at Du Tianxing, she could see a bit of resemblance in their features... And his temperament is somewhat similar to Min Yue. The only difference was that this man radiated an aura of danger.
She also felt the feeling of being regarded as an interesting toy for him which did not sit well with her.
Du Tianxing ignored her, instead he stuffed the cigarette butt in the ashtray and leaned closer to her exposed neck that was decorated with a beautiful diamond necklace. From the gaudy design, he was able to tell that it came from his little cousin.
He smirked. As expected, Min Yue's taste in jewelry was still bad. It was even more surprising that this Miss Li was willing to wear it. From what he could tell, she was a very principled and sophisticated person.
Even while in a difficult situation, she managed to stand her ground without letting any tears fall from her eyes. He admired those types of women.
"Miss Li, it is so good to be ignorant. Min Yue did not tell you why he is doing this, yes? Miss Li is so pitiful. You can only watch from afar as the love of your life fusses over another woman and gets engaged to another woman that isn't you."
Li Ruyan could hear the ridicule in Du Tianxing's tone which made her face burn red from anger but she quickly calmed herself. She must not be provoked by his words. She really did not know what was up with this man but he rubbed her the wrong way and the sense of not getting along well was there.
She could also tell that he seems to dislike her but was also slightly interested...? Li Ruyan shivered.
"Mr. Du, whatever is it you want to ask, just say it. Don't speak in riddles." Li Ruyan told him.
