章 25: Min Yue Was Telling The Truth
Li Ruyan did not hate the attention but she also did not like it. She preferred being lowkey and did not like to involve herself with gossip but it seemed that things would change and deviate from her original plan.
Yang Shiwei was also not ignorant about her identity. Her face changed and she looked at Li Ruyan in a different light.
"Miss Li is actually the Miss Li who is CEO Chen's secretary." Yang Shiwei said innocently. She went to shake Li Ruyan's hand, acting friendly.
"I did not expect Miss Li to be here. Forgive my rudeness. Why don't you come inside with me? I'm sure Miss Li is tired from standing too long at the entrance."
Li Ruyan was a little amused. Who was it that blocked her path? She also contemplated whether to snatch her hand away that was being held by the other woman. In her haste, she forgot to bring alcohol or any hand sanitizer.
Li Ruyan's smile was glued in place but she made a mental note to go to the bathroom after going inside. She needed to wash her hands.
"I am thankful for Miss Yang's generous actions. You treated me so nicely, greeting me at the entrance when there are so many guests out there." Li Ruyan pointed out as they walked inside. No one dared to stop her since she was with the celebrant's beloved daughter.
Yang Shiwei' lips twitched. Li Ruyan noticed that the woman always did this when she was straining to control her emotions.
Yang Shiwei laughed. "What is Miss Li saying? I happened to spot a familiar face, that is all. It's only right that I went to greet Miss Li."
"Is that so? Even though there are other guests, Miss Yang specifically came to greet me. I am honored. I hope CEO Lin and CEO Zhang won't be offended. Ah, I also noticed that CEO Meng was behind me. This special treatment from Miss Yang really touches my heart." Li Ruyan's voice was soft but they were loud enough for a few people to hear.
At first, no one would notice that there was anything wrong with her words but since some people here have been eavesdropping since the two started to talk to each other, they naturally understood that Yang Shiwei was making trouble for Li Ruyan.
Afterall, the CEOs mentioned were close friends with CEO Yang, and Li Ruyan, even if she's Chen Zhelan's secretary is much lower in position. And yet, Yang Shiwei chose to get close to Li Ruyan instead.
Wasn't there something wrong with this?
Yang Shiwei's eyes flashed with hate. She did not expect Li Ruyan to not be intimidated and for her to be so blunt and good with her words that it made Yang Shiwei look bad in the eyes of other people. Worse, Li Ruyan was able to poke at the mistakes in her words.
Yang Shiwei was spoiled and was always used to getting her way. Still, she was very mindful of her reputation and made sure that it did not affect her father. However, why was it that after talking to this woman, Yang Shiwei ended up making mistakes one after another?
She was seething inside. The fact that the other party was also a high-class beauty made her feel angry even more.
"Miss Li, are you being sarcastic with me? You are reading too much into my actions. Why is Miss Li so petty?"
Li Ruyan gasped. "Miss Yang, I did not think that you would see me like that. I only mentioned what I saw but Miss Yang actually thinks I am petty for taking notice of these important figures."
By important figures, she was referring to the bigshots behind them.
Yang Shiwei's face burned red but she immediately corrected her expression and frowned, her gaze turning sad that it made people pity her. If one were to look at them, Li Ruyan who was standing tall and proud would look like the bully while Yang Shiwei who looked pitiful and sad would be the victim.
Li Ruyan has never seen such a childish and shameless person.
"Miss Yang, don't be sad. Why would Miss Yang look like this? Have I done something to offend you? If yes, then I would have to apologize since I seemed to have upset you." Apologizing immediately before the other party could use the 'the victim card' would make the damage much lesser.
Just as she expected, Yang Shiwei froze. It seemed that she did not expect that Li Ruyan would be quick to catch her scheme and to remedy the situation before she could even act.
For a woman who was the daughter of a renowned businessman, Yang Shiwei was too easy to handle. She did not prove much of a challenge. It was expected of a person who grew up spoiled. They could only resort to this kind of cheap tactics.
Yang Shiwei gritted her teeth but then her eyes widened and she glanced at Li Ruyan with slight in her eyes before she suddenly burst into tears and began to sob.
Li Ruyan did not think that the other party would still carry on with their cheap tactic but then a figure walked towards Yang Shiwei's crying form and made a few comforting gestures.
"Shiwei, what happened?" Min Yue said in his baritone voice. To others, he looked like he was acting the part of the devoted fiancé but in Li Ruyan's eyes, she noticed that Min Yue used an indifferent tone and that his eyes did not display any fondness whatsoever for Yang Shiwei.
Seeing this, Li Ruyan felt doubt in her heart. Perhaps, Min Yue was telling the truth?
