章 23: White Lotus
Li Ruyan was sitting inside the car, watching the city outside through the window. Her face was devoid of any expression as she rhythmically tapped her fingers on her handbag. It was a designer's bag that Min Yue included in the box.
She wore the items that he sent her way. This was not the first. He always liked to send her dresses and jewelry out of the blue. He would claim that he only passed by and saw it on a store, thinking it would look good on her, and so he bought it.
Her lips quirked upwards. That was always his excuse everytime she asked him why he was buying her those dresses and jewelry that were too luxurious for her tastes.
And everytime, she would also buy him a set of clothes or a pair of shoes that matched those items. Unlike Min Yue, Li Ruyan was direct and straightforward with her reasons.
"Yue, I bought this because I also think that they look good on you. And also, wouldn't it be great if we match?"
"Whatever you want." He would say but his lips would smile slightly and he would turn around to hide the happiness in his face.
He would also blush which Li Ruyan found adorable. A tall man at the height of 188 centimeters was blushing because of her words. It made her heart beat quickly as she reminisced about the past.
But unlike before, Min Yue bought these items for her because he wanted her to attend the birthday party of his fiancée's father and to apologize to that man.
How great it was that she, the ex-girlfriend who chose to believe in Min Yue was going to attend that party to apologize for her 'rude remarks.'
She wanted to laugh. She badly wanted to. It was so strange that she was doing this.
Li Ruyan did not want to attend that party.
She also did not want to apologize to that person, let alone his daughter who was just as rude as him.
Those two...
Sigh.
Li Ruyan did not like them.
One reason was because Yang Shiwei had kissed Min Yue on the cheek, twice, which Li Ruyan witnessed. That scene was like a stab to her chest which is why she immediately disliked the woman.
Of course, that did not mean that Min Yue was innocent in this since he did not avoid the kiss, even if it was only on the cheek.
There were many instances in life where strangers meet and after only meeting for a few seconds, they would quickly realize that they did not like the other party. There was no definite reason but somehow, one way or another, they would subconsciously feel displeased about the other and the two people would not get along.
This was what happened to Li Ruyan and Yang Shiwei. At first glance, the two already had a tacit understanding that they did not like each other. Li Ruyan was certain that even if Min Yue was not there in the equation, she and Yang Shiwei would still not get along.
And to prove her words true, Li Ruyan was standing at the entrance while Yang Shiwei was smiling at her. A person with a sharp intuition could immediately tell that the smile was fake and Li Ruyan who was used to seeing this also noticed that fake smile.
Before deciding to engage in a verbal battle with her enemy, Li Ruyan took the time to appreciate the venue of the party. A high-class hotel with a five-star rating. The whole place was reserved by CEO Yang for his birthday party. The decorations were exquisite and expensive. The interior was neat and tidy despite the number of people inside.
While standing at the entrance and being passed by many people wearing designer dresses and clothes, their bodies and limbs adorned with expensive pieces of jewelry and watches, Yang Shiwei who was at the middle of the room earlier was still able to spot her and had zoomed towards her direction with a bright smile on her face.
She was once again wearing a red dress that hugged her figure, showing her beautiful form and long white legs. Her hair was styled in curls and bounced everytime she moved. If not for the mean look in her eyes, Li Ruyan would have been awed by this woman's beauty that was brought out by the 'passionate' way she dressed in red colors...
Even the lipstick and makeup were red in the theme. There was a ruby necklace on Yang Shiwei's neck, paired with ruby earrings. With Li Ruyan's sharp insight, she estimates that the cost of these items was not cheap.
They were probably even more expensive than her own jewelry set. The reason why she knew this was because as the secretary of CEO Chen, who was an owner of many jewelry lines, Li Ruyan had to know some knowledge about the quality and prices of items like these.
People might think she was being too calculative or shrewd, but it simply came as part of the job. Despite this, Li Ruyan did not really like wearing jewelry. She was already satisfied wearing a pair of earrings. Many more and she would look like a Christmas tree.
The only reason she decided to wear so many at once for the night was due to the fact that the whole jewelry set really matched with the dress she was wearing and since she was heading to a warzone, she decided that it would not hurt to look beautiful while doing so.
Atleast she would no longer be mistaken as a 'beggar.'
Her dress for the night was unlike Yang Shiwei's fiery dress. Li Ruyan's dress was a silky white that flowed smoothly down her knees. It revealed her beautiful shoulders and jawline because it was an off-shoulder dress. It was adorned with sequins and beads at the skirt while a simple lace belt was tied at her waist.
She looked beautiful and elegant while wearing it. She did not curl her long hair and allowed it to flow down behind her back like a waterfall.
In a certain someone eye's, she probably looked like a white lotus...
