章 180: Someone's Babysitter
"Ye Yu, do you think that Nat is done with his mission?"
"I don't know, Miss Yang."
"Ye Yu, do you think he arrived safely at the base?"
"I wouldn't know, Miss Yang."
"Ye Yu, who do you think Little Zhou likes more? Me or Nat?"
"For the last time, I don't know, Miss Yang. How long are you going to waste time by asking these pointless questions?" Ye Yu said as he sighed.
Nathalie Yang made a face.
"This is why you don't have a girlfriend. You're no fun!"
"No. It's because I'm stuck being someone's babysitter..."
Nathalie Yang held a suprised look."Huh? Ye Yu, you aren't even good with children! And I've never seen you with a kid before. That is more like Nat's forte..."
"..."
He forgot to say manchild.
Ye Yu smiled bitterly. He was really in such a difficult position, being stuck with an immature colleague who sometimes lack any common sense.
He couldn't help but sigh for what felt like the umpteenth time that day.
Anyway, they were almost done with the work here. It has been more than three days since they left the base. One day was spent travelling and using a safe pathway while they have been hauling equipment left and right for more than two days already.
Thankfully, their work was almost done since more personnel were sent to speed up the job. It also helps that some of them were metal ability users.
Most of the solar generator and its parts have already been dismantled and some furnitures and equipments that were still in good condition was taken out of the place. He surmised that they would be done by nightfall.
Tomorrow, they would be able to go back to the base.
The past few days have been relatively peaceful and the mutants who were attracted by the noise were low levels and were quickly disposed of by them.
What Ye Yu was worried about was the probability of encountering a flock of Scavengers, especially during the day.
Scavengers were inactive during the night but they hunt in groups during the daylight and the military aren't done exterminating or lessening their numbers.
In fact, they simply lack the manpower to do so because there were more pressing matters worth their attention such as how they would solve the quickly depleting number of resources.
Hygiene was also a serious concern because water resources such as rivers and lakes were contaminated. Mutant aquatic animals and plants were sighted even in the water.
It was a good thing that after almost four months into the apocalypse, the government has already long began their research regarding the mutation.
The root cause of everything was definitely the blue meteor that fell on the Pacific Ocean.
'I heard that Japan once again suffered from a tsunami because of the meteor causing vibrations in the plates...' Ye Yu remembered and concluded that China was lucky to have evaded such a catastrophe.
He wasn't sure of what happened to the other neighboring countries but he concluded that everyone's current situation was not ideal.
Either way, going back to the previous peaceful days were no longer an option.
Ye Yu could only choose to adopt to the current situation. It wasn't like this was all just a dream and that once he wakes up, everything would go back to normal.
He wished it was as simple as that.
"Ye Yu, this is really boring. We've been on standby for so many days. The guys are doing too great of a job killing those pesky creatures." Nathalie Yang complained.
Ye Yu was already used to it. His colleague only knows how to complain and rarely gets any job done.
In fact, Nathalie Yang often prefers the brute work while Ye Yu was stuck with handling the paperwork that NO ONE wants.
About seven years ago, he was still a university student with aspiring dreams. He didn't think that he'd end up being someone's babysitter.
He also didn't think that he would be stuck with a pretty girl who turns out to be an actual brute.
Now, he couldn't even get a girlfriend because he was too busy with his work, not to mention, being stuck with someone like Nathalie Yang made his chances go from one to zero very quickly.
Ahh...
If his brother was still alive, what would he say to him?
Ye Yu frowned. In the end, he dispersed his foolish thoughts and focused on his work.

Now for some short story time...
The ML, Lu Jingren, calls his mother, Lily, on a first name basis for a good reason. Now, this may seem odd for some people but I based this from an actual story.
I have a friend, who grew up in the States. She calls her mother, using her first name, 'Katherine' and his father, using his first name, 'Jack'. Unlike her, I call my parents, mom or dad so you could say that there was some kind of adjustment period when I visited my friend. Her parents were completely fine with the first name basis but I still call thems two, Aunt or Uncle cauz I didn't want to be rude.
There was actually another reason why she calls them that, I guess it turns out that they were way too close with each other.
Their family of three looks like a bunch of teenagers with the way they hang out with each other...
So Lu Jingren calling his mother using her first name, it means something...lol. We'll get there.
and...
My other friends in the States, they do call their parents, Mom or Dad, or something similar.
