章 12: Return

編集者: EndlessFantasy Translation

The next morning, Su Jin ate the hotel breakfast early and checked out.

Zhang Chunyang arrived at the hotel at the agreed time too, but why was Wang He in the car as well? Was Wang He here to send her off too?

Zhang Chunyang said awkwardly, "Mr. Wang called me this morning and said he needed to go to S City. Your flights are about the same time, so I thought I'd send both of you together. You don't mind, do you?"

Could she say it if she did mind? Zhang Chunyang was such an idiot. Well, she really did not mind, though. She had some degree of faith in Wang He, and even if Wang He suspected anything, she was sure that he would do anything to harm her.

"I don't mind. Good morning, Mr. Wang," Su Jin said, keeping a straight face.

"Morning," Wang He replied. He was still sitting in the back seat as usual, his laptop propped on his legs. As he greeted her, he moved his black suitcase aside and moved inward, gesturing at Su Jin to sit next to him.

Su Jin had planned to take the passenger seat. "..."

About a dozen minutes into the drive, Su Jin gave the warehouse key to Zhang Chunyang. If Wang He saw them, he made no indication of it, continuing to type out his emails on his laptop.

"When are you sending people over to your warehouse for the goods?" Zhang Chunyang asked without thinking.

Warehouse? Goods?

The typing sounds stopped abruptly. Wang He raised his head and turned to look at Su Jin in confusion.

Sigh, guess she could not avoid it.

Su Jin had no choice but to repeat her whole story to Wang He.

She could not tell if Wang He bought it, but he did not say anything else after her explanation.

"You don't know, Mr. Wang, but Su Jin's planning to start a real big supermarket back home. Two whole floors worth!" If Zhang Chunyang was not driving, Su Jin suspected that he would be jumping for joy.

Su Jin held her head. "I'll tell you once I get things sorted out. It'll take some time yet."

"Sure thang, boss. Call me and I'll be there." Zhang Chunyang thumped his chest confidently. He was reliable and guaranteed that he could complete any task Su Jin gave him flawlessly.

Her morning flight was right on time, so Su Jin bid the two of them farewell and proceeded to the boarding counter.

Before she got onto the plane, she called Lu Hao, who said that he would pick her up on time. When she thought that they were going to reunite soon, Su Jin felt her heart start to race for some reason. She had not seen her husband for two years, and her face actually turned red for once. She felt like a new bride again.

The plane flew across the sky and slowly landed back down. She was finally back in H City.

Su Jin breathed in the familiar air as soon as she got off the plane. It had been such a long time, and she really missed this email. Whenever Su Jin went anywhere else in the past, she always thought that the air in H City was just different. This was the smell of home.

Probably because it was the weekend, the airport was packed full of people, but Su Jin could not see Lu Hao anywhere.

Had he gotten lost again…?

Su Jin turned on the GPS on her phone and shared her location with Lu Hao. As she watched, the small green dot representing Lu Hao's location moved in the opposite direction, going further away from her.

Su Jin hurriedly called Lu Hao and told him to stay put. It would probably be easier for her to go to him.

She used the GPS to head toward Lu Hao's direction. Soon enough, she found Lu Hao standing alone in the crowd, looking utterly lost.

Lu Hao was wearing simple lounge clothing today, his casual off-white slacks accentuating his long legs. The short-sleeved blue T-shirt he wore highlighted his large pecs and tight waist, hinting at his well-defined and powerful muscles. His strong features and copper skin gave him an aura that exuded masculinity.

Right now, Lu Hao was holding his phone in his left hand. He looked at the crowd around him and then at the the phone in his hand, his expression one of complete confusion.

His little green dot and Su Jin's little red dot were right next to each other now, but he could not see his wife anywhere! At the same time, Su Jin told him not to move, so he did not dare to take a single step from where he stood right now…

To Su Jin, Lu Hao looked like a Golden Retriever who could not find its bone, so it was going around in circles anxiously.

Lu Hao felt someone tug at his shirt, and then a soft voice called his name.

It was his wife!

Lu Hao the Golden Retriever finally found his bone. He turned around and immediately enveloped Su Jin in a bear hug.

Sh was feeling a little suffocated in his arms. She nearly summoned her vines to knock him away.

"Lu Hao, c'mon, let go already." Su Jin tried to push Lu Hao's chest away, not forgetting to cop a feel while she was at it. Tsk-tsk, those were some nice pecs.

Lu Hao felt something soft pressing against his chest. It was ticklish, but it felt good too.

Thankfully, he remembered that they were still in public. When he saw Su Jin's slightly flushed face, he hurriedly let go and asked her, "Are you tired?"

"Totally. I sat in the plane for so long that my butt hurts now!"

Lu Hao laughed. Why was his wife so cute?!

It felt as though it had been a century since he last saw her, even though it was clearly only a week.

Su Jin was even prettier now than she had been when they parted. Her smile almost blinded him.

Lu Hao toko her luggage from her, while she clung onto his arm intimately. The two of them walked, side by side. As Lu Hao pulled the luggage with his left hand, he could the soft sweetness of the person on his right. He could not help but lift the corners of his lips.

His mother had died when he was young, and after that he had lived with his father. While his father was decent to Lu Hao, he eventually got remarried, and Lu Hao did not want to continue living with his stepmother and stepsister. That was why Lu Hao joined the police forces at a young age. As far as he could remember, he had never known the warmth of a complete family.

To make things worse, he spent most of his time with a bunch of other guys, so he had no idea how to interact with women either. That was why he was so glad that Su Jin did not mind his boring personality and was willing to marry him anyway.

From the second he put the wedding ring on her finger, he swore to himself that no matter what, he would unconditionally love and spoil her for the rest of their lives. He would not let her suffer even the smallest slight, because she had taught him what it felt like to be a family.

Having a family gave him a warm fuzzy feeling that nothing else could compare to.

Once they left the arrivals hall, they saw Mr. Chen the chauffeur waiting for them at the very front of the line, so that they could not possibly miss him. It was an occupational habit of his. He was worried that Captain Lu would not see him and end up lost again, so he constantly thought of himself as a human signboard.

In her past life, Su Jin always respected Mr. Chen, who was Lu Hao's chauffeur but also their elder. He treated Lu Hao with the same care and concern an elder would show to their younger relatives, but he also afforded Lu Hao the strict devotion an employee should show his employer. No matter how late at night, if Lu Hao's duty called him, Mr. Chen would send Lu Hao to the correct location right on time.

That was why both Lu Hao and his wife Su Jin treated Mr. Chen very well. The problem was Mr. Chen's daughter…

When Su Jin remembered the person who had killed her in her previous life, her feelings for Mr. Chen became even more complicated.

She had sworn to kill that enemy of hers, but the woman was also Mr. Chen's only daughter. How did such a kind father raise such an evil daughter? Su Jin could not understand it. Right now, she could only take things one step at a time.

Mr. Chen dropped Su Jin and Lu Hao off at their home and then left.

All of a sudden, they were alone in the house and Su Jin began feeling a little awkward. To hide her unnaturalness, she opened her luggage and took out her clothes. A bath might help her loosen up.

On the other hand, Lu Hao did not seem to feel anything amiss. He had his laptop balanced on his legs as he sat on the couch, but his eyes kept following Su Jin as she ran in and out of the balcony.

The afternoon sun shone down on her as she stuffed her clothes into the washing machine. She poured in the detergent and hit 'start', then the washing machine beeped and began to turn.

It was such a mundane, realistic scene. It finally sank in for him that she was home, for real. The uneasiness he had felt the past few days while she was away vanished without a trace.

"Lu Hao, there's something I want to talk to you about." Su Jin finally gathered her guts and decided to tell Lu Hao all about her secrets and the dimension.

"Hmm? What is it?" On the couch, Lu Hao took the laptop from his legs and put it down. Patting the seat next to him, he invited her to come sit with him.

Su Jin bit her red lip and said, "Could we… talk inside the room?"

Was that an invitation?

Su Jin could tell that he was misunderstanding something. Whatever, he would understand soon enough.

She ran up to him and searched through his shirt and pants pockets with her dainty hands, asking him, "Where's your phone?"

Was she demanding a spot check before cuddle time? How could she be so adorable?

Lu Hao's throat bobbed. He picked her up with ease and put her on his lap, pressing down on her frisky hands with one hand and holding up her chin with the other. Without a word, he came down on those tempting red lips!

After a long, long time, they finally broke apart, both of them red and panting.

Geez, she was being serious here!

As serious as she could possibly be! This was really important!

Lu Hao looked at the conflict in Su Jin's expression and pinched her cheek. It felt good. So he pinched her again.

Su Jin, "..."

Could she get to the main point yet?

Lu Hao finally stopped teasing her. Su Jin placed both her phone and his onto the couch and dragged him into their bedroom.

Once inside, Su Jin closed and locked the door. Next, she drew the curtains and turned on the light.

Her actions… were causing his mind to wander again.

However, Su Jin then made him sit on the bed and sat down facing him.

"Lu Hao, I died two years from now and came back to the past. Do you believe me?"

章 13: Confession

編集者: EndlessFantasy Translation

… "I don't want to believe it, have you been reading some sci-fi novel and letting your imagination run wild?" Seeing that Lu Hao indeed didn't believe her, Su Jin directly summoned her vines. She only summoned the delicate vines, which wrapped around Lu Hao's wrist. Lu Hao: … "This is my Wood Element ability. In less than a month, many people in this world will awaken special abilities, including you." Before she had joined Lu Hao's team in her past life, she already knew that Lu Hao had a special ability, a very powerful one, but the person who took her to claim the bounty didn't specify what it was. "Why will people awaken special abilities?" Lu Hao now believed most of what she said, but Su Jin mentioned she had died once—what was that about? Could it be because he hadn't protected her well enough? "It's because soon, a virus will spread across the Earth, and the infected will be like the zombies in movies, consuming human flesh, scooping out human brains," she continued, observing Lu Hao's furrowed brow. "If a normal person is caught or bitten by an infected, they too will turn into zombies. To kill them, you can only destroy their brains, like by shooting them in the head." The delicate vine remained wrapped around Lu Hao's wrist, a trickle of energy flowed into his body, making him feel as comfortable as if he were soaking in a hot spring. But if what Su Jin said was all true, how could he let her face danger? "You survived in the world of zombies for two years, so where was I? Weren't we together?" Lu Hao asked nervously. Su Jin retracted her vines, wrapped her arms around Lu Hao's waist, and leaned into his chest as she continued, "At that time, I was on a business trip in Province G and hadn't had the chance to return when the zombie virus outbreak occurred. The world was in chaos then, planes, high-speed trains, and buses had stopped running, and the power systems were down. "I heard that you and Driver Chen went to Province G to find me, but by then I had joined another team and headed to a base in the neighboring province, so we never met. It was only later that your substantial bounty worked. Someone brought me to you, but on that day you happened to be away, and one of your subordinates locked me up, not wanting me to see you. Later, she injected me with the zombie virus when I wasn't paying attention, and then I woke up. At that time, I was on a plane to Province G. I also thought all of those were just dreams, but my Wood Element ability also came back with me. Lu Hao, it wasn't a dream. It was the real apocalypse, and it's less than a month away!" "What's the name of the subordinate who killed you?" Lu Hao's voice was somewhat cold. Su Jin could feel his anger, but that was not the point right now! "I'll tell you about that later, right now the most important thing is that you believe me!" Even though Lu Hao was still immersed in self-blame, he believed her, but he couldn't believe he had lost her. How could he! Holding Su Jin tightly, he decided that no matter what happened in the future, he would stay by her side and not let her get hurt again. Feeling Lu Hao's emotions, Su Jin also quieted down. She knew what Lu Hao was thinking. Before, she didn't think much of it, but in Lu Hao's arms, she began to confront the reality that she had died once. Was it humiliating? It was incredibly humiliating. Alone, she had lost her family and friends, lived in fear every day for two years—hunger and cold were secondary; loneliness was the most frightening. Although she had been with some teams, none of the relationships lasted until the end. Lu Hao touched Su Jin's face in his arms and realized she was truly crying. He also felt an indescribable heartache. He had never blamed himself so much before. He felt it was because he hadn't protected her well enough, and it was his subordinate who had killed her. If he knew that person's name, he feared he wouldn't be able to contain himself from dismembering him! "Xiao Jin, don't cry, I'll be with you. We'll be fine together," Lu Hao frantically tried to find the right words to comfort her. "Lu Hao, there's another thing I need to tell you," Su Jin sniffled and sat upright, taking out the Jade Slip from the Space in front of Lu Hao. "Is this also a Special Ability?" Why did something suddenly appear in Su Jin's hand? Su Jin, not hurrying to explain, took Lu Hao's finger, and using a tough leaf from her vine, she made a cut. Blood quickly flowed from Lu Hao's finger, dripping in the direction of the Jade Slip. As the blood levels dropped, Lu Hao suddenly felt a suction force, followed by a change in his surroundings. He was now sitting face to face with Su Jin on a rock. It was very quiet around them, and the air was fresh. Could Su Jin's special ability really create such an illusion technique? Su Jin, seeing the puzzled look on Lu Hao's face, smiled slightly and said, "This is the pendant you gave me. I only discovered its existence a few days ago. It must have been passed down by your ancestors, but for some reason, its functionality was lost." Then, Su Jin took Lu Hao on a tour of the Lu Residence, with most of the explanation coming from her. Lu Hao never knew the family secrets of his own house, nor had he heard about the peculiar use of that pendant. So, he concluded that the pendant must choose its owner and would only unlock its little world when it recognized someone. After hearing Lu Hao's deduction, Su Jin seemed to understand as well. However, this space ultimately belonged to an heirloom of Lu Hao's family. It took nearly an hour for the two to finish walking through the Lu Residence. The residence was simply too large, and after finishing the left side courts, they had to walk back and then proceed to the right side courts. There were many rooms, and apart from using them for living, Su Jin planned to convert most of them into storage. "Lu Hao, if I let my family also enter and exit this space, would you agree?" Su Jin asked with some nervousness, afraid that Lu Hao might disagree and cause a rift between them. Unexpectedly, Lu Hao agreed without hesitation: "Your family is my family, of course I agree. If, as you say, the apocalypse happens later, we will need our own people, and it's best if those are our respective families." Lu Hao really liked Su Jin's grandparents. If it were not for his busy work schedule, he would definitely offer to live there and contribute to their expenses regularly. "However, as for the space, the fewer people who know about it the better. I completely trust my parents and grandparents. For some more distant relatives, we should still discuss it," Lu Hao said, worried that if too many knew about the space, it might inadvertently expose Su Jin to risks. "I understand. I just wanted to consider your opinion, Captain Lu." Anyone who knew about the existence of the space and was part of the Jade Slip Contract had to be their closest kin. Even among kin, if anyone harbored even the slightest thoughts of greed or hedonism, Su Jin would not agree. Lu Hao felt the same way. Looking at the vast space whose actual size was unknown, Lu Hao felt less self-reproachful, knowing that if Su Jin ever faced any life-threatening danger, she could immediately hide in the space. Meanwhile, their immediate concern was to stockpile supplies. Fortunately, Lu Hao had completed the tasks at his unit and had caught the suspect, so he could request leave to go shopping with Su Jin. Remembering the person they had caught, Lu Hao frowned and asked, "You just mentioned, zombies? What do they look like?" "What? Did you encounter them too?" Su Jin was shocked. "I'm not quite sure yet. When we caught the suspect, he was in a frenzy, biting everyone around him. We thought he'd overdosed on drugs, so we handcuffed him and locked him up in the station. "Did anyone catch him?" Su Jin anxiously asked. It was extremely dangerous as if he had scratched someone, it might already be too late! "No, we wore bulletproof vests, and although he tackled one of the officers, he didn't bite through to the skin." Lu Hao was relieved that the police uniform was sufficiently protective; he couldn't bear to see any teammate sacrificed, especially in such a manner. It seemed the situation was already spiraling out of control, and they needed to prepare early.
