Magus in Marvel

Chapter 3 Part 1

By: Pineappl3

Looking down at my new watch, I gave it a once-over before deciding it looked normal. "Athena, you have really outdone yourself with this. Who would have known you can print magic runes. All I had to do was imbue it with the proper mana. Plus, you managed to hide an aptitude test in this tiny watch without spatial magic."

Speaking into my ear via my new earpiece, Athena spoke. "It's all thanks to the funds left behind by your mother. If not for her, we wouldn't have the capital to do half the things we can currently do. Not unless we want to be on the radar of every major agency for our rapid growth of wealth."

I nodded my head, "Yes, I would assume it would not look very natural if I became a billionaire overnight without the aid of that inheritance. How was it passed to me by my mother anyways? Don't inheritances pass down after death?"

"That is not always the case Father, in this instance she was able to pass it down to you because you came of age." Hearing a ding, I focused on the opening elevator doors. Walking out, I found myself on the newly finished underground floor.

It was here I was building a large Magitech Mana Converter. With the help of magic, I would revolutionize power generation. This product would take ambient mana from the leyline and convert it to electricity to power my building. Athena predicted that in about a thousand years this would dry up the mana all around New York, but I knew we would have better solutions to power by then.

I was still stealing knowledge about modern tech after all, and I was certain once I found something truly interesting, it wouldn't be long till I copied it and made it better with magic.

I wasn't here to reinvent the wheel, but I did decide to make it better, or find a replacement all together. Stepping out, my shoes clacked against the smooth stone floors as I made myself to the center and took a look at all the hulking figures laboring.

All around were golems hard at work. It didn't take too long to make each one, but if it wasn't for modern technology making it easy to get gems with their synthetic diamonds, I would be hard pressed to make enough Mana Cores for my workforce.

Mana Cores in essence were gems imbued with mana and sealed with runes to prevent any leakage. On their own, gems were wonderful containers, but I knew a few tricks to make them better.

Casting my gaze upon the runic circle I frowned at an unpleasant memory, "Make sure the circle is 100 percent perfect. I want no errors." After a brief pause, I continued on my way. Walking towards the far corner of the underground room, I found myself in my open air lab.

My eyes floated past my Runic Printer, the Alchemy Station, and finally settled on the newest addition. Grinning at the Enchanter's Table I ran my fingers across its smooth surface.

Nodding as I inspected every single rune, a habit I had formed after the events with Malcolm, I placed my current projects atop the table once I was sure nothing was amiss.

Now resting on the table were two expensive looking purses, one gunmetal silver ring, a single tiny black pouch, and three silver bracelets. I moved everything but the gunmetal ring to the edges of the runic surface and began to work on finishing them.

'With this Tracking Ring I should be able to teleport to Felicia should she need me.' Satisfied with the finished ring, I moved on to work on the two purses and the small pouch. 'Storage Bags are a little tricky, but I chose Spatial Mana for a reason. If I could mass produce these I would be rich.'

After a while of tinkering with the Spatial Bags, I applied the last rune and admired my work. 'All that's left are the Mage Armor bracelets. It should be strong enough to endure small calibre rounds and low level magic. If I had some better metals I would attempt to create a really good Artifact. Alchemists on this world can transmute can't they? Now that's an idea.'

My smile growing wide from the ingenious thoughts, I moved as quickly and efficiently as possible to complete the three bracelets so I could move on to testing transmutation.

'Nixie, get me large quantities of metal, iron, silver, gold and titanium. About 100 pounds each. Thanks.' "Athena, get some of the golems to make me four large boxes." 'This is going to be fun.' I rubbed my hands together and couldn't help but let out a hearty cuckle.

Today was a big day not only for me, but for that rich guy who had gone missing roughly three months ago. Tony Stark had somehow escaped from his captors and made his way back to America relatively unharmed.

My Magitech Mana Converter was finally completed and I had even time to finish two other projects. My first side project was reverse engineering the Mana Converter I had copied from Azum and made it convert electricity to mana.

Once I had found or stolen a reliable power source, I would have large amounts of mana at my disposal. Although I loathed borrowed power, I was not strong enough to pick and choose how exactly I empowered myself.

With that project done and shelved for future use, I looked down at what could previously only be done with the 'Philosopher's Stone' in legends. I had turned iron into gold, albeit by accident. Amazingly I was able to replicate the effects of said accident and I used the idea to complete my second project.

Running my fingers along the cold metallic surface of an element I was sure didn't exist in this world, I stood proud knowing I had essentially created Orichalcum. This was not the Orichalcum from Greek Mythos, no, this was Orichalcum from my world.

Known as 'God's Metal,' It was the hardest substance in the world. Although it wasn't the best metal to enchant, it was better than any of the metals I had seen so far on Earth and once I had enough I would use it to begin 'Project Ares.'

'It's a shame making Orichalcum is so expensive, I'm literally burning gold to get this stuff. I should obtain a gold mine now that I think about it.' Looking up from the reddish-gold hue of the metal, I spoke. "Athena, try and purchase a few gold mines, we are going to be needing a lot."

"Taking into account the hundred to one ratio needed for turning gold into Orichalcum, I suggest we instead buy iron mines then transmute them into gold. That ratio is only two to one."

I nodded to Athena's sensible conjecture, "Dew it. Heh, Palpatine was the best part of that movie. Too bad Mother missed it."

"Father, just now Tony Stark has just announced that he would be shutting down his weapons division. His stocks are dropping and I predict a 93 percent chance they will bounce back. Should I buy as many as possible?"

I scratched my chin in thought, "Hmm. Yes. Go ahead. Oh and begin spying on him, I bet there is a good reason for his escape and I want to know how. Well, I guess that's enough mucking about. Time to teach Felicia subtle casting."

As I made my way to the training floor in my Magus Tower, I thought back to my first spellcasting lesson with Felicia. True to her talent, she was able to quickly apply what I had taught her. She had even managed to get the most important part of subtle casting down without my mention of it and it greatly showed with her normal casting.

Subtle casting was a high leveled technique that most would not learn till they reached Archmagus levels of strength or knowledge. Since coming to this world I had realized that the fundamental difference in why some could master this was due to an understanding of the world most did not have.

With the introduction of Chemistry in this world and other similar sciences, people were actually able to understand the interactions of the world and thus using said knowledge, Felicia was able to perfectly understand how her spells worked in a more scientific way.

I was proud. Using science she evolved magic all on her own. Initially I was surprised when she cast her first firebolt spell and it had much more power than normal. Once she had explained she imagined oxygen fueling the fire, the pieces began to click for me as well.

Perfect imagination of how our spells worked and the specific ways to improve them could allow anyone to subtle cast. After a day of revising my future subtle casting lecture for Felicia and waiting for the right moment, I decided now was as good a time as any.
