[GHOST POV]
"Was she looking for me???"
A woman's husky voice could be heard from the other line.
"Why don't you visit her and ask her yourself." Detective Sungmin tried to tease.
"You already told me she woke up fine."
"You're the one who asked me if she's looking for you."
"I can't be seen anywhere near you or her. This woman is too high profile. She's the daughter of a mob boss."
"Did you move the body?"
"No, even if I think we should."
"You can't!!! If I get caught planting evidence or destroying one, I'm done."
"Yeah… yeah… I know."
"Don't be naughty, okay?"
"What??? What do you mean by that???" The woman yelled on her phone but the detective from the other line hung up the call.
"Jeeeezzz… what does he think I am??? A pervert???" Ghost looked at herself in the mirror of her car and brushed her long black hair. It's not the first time she became beautiful.
Ghost became a woman named Ryo Sun Ah. Twenty-six years old, she was killed three days ago.
She got out of her vehicle and followed the man from the parked car in front of the hospital. He noticed her walking towards him and hurriedly stepped inside the hospital. Before she could reach him, he approached the admitting desk and charmed the nurses with a conversation.
She couldn't hear them clearly. It was about Youngjae's girlfriend.
The man was obviously avoiding her. She waited after they were finished and called the man in the hallway.
"Gil Youngjae!!!"
The man ignored her and continued to walk. She sprinted to reach his arm but he shrugged it off and continued to step away from her.
"Youngjae, can we please talk???"
"We don't have anything to talk about."
"Youngjae, I still love you." Ghost pleaded.
She knew those words would stop the man from leaving. He turned and stared at her with sights holding his anger.
"Let's talk in my car."
They walked back to reach his vehicle in front of the hospital. He drove a few blocks away and parked in an empty street.
"Youngjae… I need to ask you a few questions."
"If it's about us—"
"—no!"
"What is it???"
"Who's trying to kill me?"
The man darted his fierce eyes at her and sneered with his jaw clenching.
"Maybe it's me."
"Why would you want to kill me?"
The man scoffed and laughed to mock her. He lifted the lower end of his pant leg to reveal his prosthetic limb and feet.
"BECAUSE OF THIS!!!"
Her forehead wrinkled, baffled by the man's explanation. She was the reason for the man losing his leg but she didn't know how it happened. From all of Ryo Sun Ah's stuff in her house, there was nothing to be suspicious about. Only a box hidden under the bed gave her a clue on who she should approach first.
Gil Youngjae.
He was her ex-boyfriend. The pictures and mementos on the box screamed profound affection. She treasured everything the man gave to her. They were happy. They were in love. Yet the carton container implied they broke up.
"I'm sorry."
"Sorry??? Really??? That's all you got to say to me??? How about I kill your father for doing this to me. AND I WILL TELL YOU HOW SORRY I AM!!!" Youngjae yelled furiously.
"I didn't expect my father would do that."
"Do you know what he told me before he cut my leg??? I stole his future, and he would steal my dream."
Ghost unearthed what she needed from Youngjae. She understood the intense resentment the man displayed. Her father was desperate to break them apart and made the terrible decision of cutting the man's feet.
"I don't want to see you ever again."
"I understand."
"I'm going to date someone new. Someone with a normal life. Away from what we are and what our families do."
"Don't do that. You're only going to bring her pain."
"I don't need you to tell me what to do. We're done."
The man drove back in front of the hospital. Before she got off, Ghost gave him some advice.
"Be careful, Youngjae. Someone is trying to kill me and if it isn't you then it's someone bound to get us both."
She strolled back to her car and thought of what to do next. Finding the suspect has always been hard. But this time, the list would be endless. His father's enemies could have sent the killer to murder her out of revenge or to gain power over him. Ghost massaged her head that's beginning to ache.
He's thankful Ms. Han Soojin wasn't following her for three days of investigating. She didn't want to put the woman's life in danger again. To heal Soojin she has to let go of the life essences she gathered for years to lend her energy to the woman. It is how she existed for centuries. She takes lives. Guilty ones. The stain of pride, greed, lust, envy, gluttony, wrath and sloth gave her long life. But it wasn't her purpose.
Ghost was made out of revenge. A plea.
On the brink of death, someone's hatred was heard by a being. Is it god? Is it a devil? She didn't hear a word or comprehend what she has become. She wasn't born again. She was sent to bring death to anyone who sees her face. A curse. Whoever or whatever brought her back made her a monster. Wearing the face of vengeful spirits that prayed for a chance to claim their killer.
An eye for an eye. A life for a life.
Her existence would linger on until she fulfills her revenge. It would be difficult. The life she would have to claim for her own existed for centuries like her. Protected. Revered. She has tried many times and failed.
Her chance would come. She believed. Fate would bring her the retribution she needed. And when that time comes. She would finally rest.
"When will that come? I'm getting tired."
Ghost mumbled.
She drove to her storage facility. Unlike her father, Ryo Sun Ah was a legitimate businesswoman who sells textiles. Fabrics were used for wedding gowns and dresses. Expensive and high quality. She parked her car and reached the warehouse with a few steps. The man standing beside a lifting machine was shouting at the employees.
"I'm going to be the new boss of this company—"
"—Who said that???" Ryo Sun Ah yelled.
The man turned with his eyes bulging from shock. Ghost's eyes narrowed and her lips curved.
How lucky is she??? The man in front of her was the one who killed her.
