"I will come to see Spade immediately," Serenica said. "This is bad. Dreamy boy, come with me. We need to have another meeting."

Of course there could be no certainty about the number of surviving maroon spies. There could be many. There could be none left. It seemed that the court could not trust anyone anymore. Serenica even suspected Obonax of betraying Azzer, even though that was not likely, as Obonax was an extremely dull man.

It was agreed that all communication outside of the inner circle of the king-captain should be in a secret code cryptic enough that it would go unnoticed, and Ed could help with that, but even he had to admit that no secret language could save them if someone undesirable knew the key to it.

Serenica pulled out her hair every night as they made their way to the Princess to take the message to the people personally. She was surprised by the amount of hair she had on her head. A few nights of stress made no difference.
