It was like when the internet connection was bad, and the game character wouldn't move as the player wished. 

But this wasn't a temporary lag. It was eternal freedom. 

Jake robbed back the control over his body so smoothly because he had long been dormant, waiting for the moment to counterattack. 

Zenith didn't think that Jake had long broken free from his control. 

He was just hiding inside the broken consciousness cage, which was why Zenith didn't feel anything and didn't get the backlash either. 

Zenith had used his ability many times before, but never once did he get a backlash because the target cut off the connection and counterattack before he could non-activate his puppet ability.
