"Ok guys quiet down!" Dana says yelling into the microphone. The microphone let's out a shrieking noise.
Everyone cringes while holding their ears. "Sorry, you guys should have gotten quiet sooner. Now, something you've all been waiting for Homecoming King and Queen!" Everyone starts to cheer. I readjust myself in the chair leaning forward eager to hear the results.
"You're homecoming Queen is... Sara Wong!" We all look to the side to see Sara letting out a shrill as she runs up to Dana to get her crown. I've never seen someone so happy to be homecoming queen. Tara hesitantly claps her hands together, probably mad that she didn't win. Usually Tara always wins over Sara, guess not tonight.
"Now the homecoming King is... Jack Thompson!" I clasp my hands over my mouth in excitement. To the side of me Lyra runs up to the dance floor screaming rather loudly for Jack. He gives her the eye telling her to calm down. "Everyone needs to clear the floor so the homecoming king and queen can have their first dance." Immediately everyone chatters off the floor as Sara and Jack make their way in the middle. The Dj plays a soft melody as they sway to the music.
As I'm entranced by Jack and Sara I hear someone say my name.
"Hey Quinn." I turn around to see Mary plop down in the seat behind me. "What's happening?"
"Just chilling." I reply. "Where's Andre?" I asked looking around for him. The whole night they've practically been inseparable.
"I needed a break. Plus, I lost him in the crowd 10 minutes ago." She says nonchalantly as she takes a bite of her cookie.
"Well... Aren't you going to go look for him?" I asked her.
"Nah he'll be fine." She shrugged off.
"Ok."
Turning my attention back to the stage I see that the dance has ended. Dang that was quick. "Alright Bat's this is the last dance of the night then we'll be wrapping up. So, grab your date, friend, teacher or even your principal and come on down the the floor." Immediately the floor fills with people.
Mary comes up beside me with her hand out for me to grab. "Wanna dance." She says deeply while smirking her eyebrow. Now I like Mary, but not enough to dance with her.
"I'm good thanks." I reassure her.
"Why is there something wrong with me?" She says defensibly.
"No, there isn't nothing wrong with you it would just be weird to dance with you." I say trying to calm her down.
"Quinneth you're not... homophobic, are you?" She questioned me.
"WHAT?! No, I ju-." I stop myself from talking mid-sentence. If I say no, she may do something unpredictable. It's that I don't want to dance with her that's 50% of the reason is other half is that my feet hurt and I have a big red stain on my dress.
I let out a long sign. "Fine." I take her hand and she guided me to the dance floor.
One of her hands lay on the small my back while the other one holds mine. They just had to play a slow song. We sway to the music ever so slowly. As we take one turn around, I see Lyra looking at me with a weird look as she dances with Jack.
"Why are you dancing with Mary?" She silently mouthed to me.
"She made me I thought she would do something irrational." I mouthed back to her. She lets out a small giggle as she readjusts Jack's crown on her head. Why is she wearing his crown? I'm sure she guilt tripped him into giving her his crown.
On the side a blinding light suddenly hits me and Mary. "Oh, wow Batcaver's has an openly gay couple. Let's give them a round of applause for being so brave." All the couples turn around and give us a round of the applause. As their clapping I'm trying to stop the light from burning my corneas.
"No were not a cou-." Before I'm able to finish my sentence Mary covers my mouth with her hands. I look at her like she's deranged.
"Thank you all so much for accepting our love." I shake my head while rolling my eyes.
"If you keep rolling your eyes their going to stay like that." She said lecturing me.
Mary-Anne Digby is now officially my enemy.
After a few more minutes of dancing with Mary, the music starts to die down and now homecoming is officially over.
"I got a text the limo is outside we got to go." Mary tells me.
"Ok I'll go get Lyra, Jack, Kate, Andre and Lyle while you get Khadijah and Darren." She gives me a nod while heading off.
"Hey you guys we have to go the limo is outside." We go to the table, grabbed our stuff and headed outside.
"Where's Darren and Khadijah?" Lyra asked.
"Mary went to get them." I tell her.
"They better hurry up it's cold out here?" She says trying to stay warm. It is rather cold out here, most of the time it's hot during the day and cold at night.
While waiting for them to come up Lyra comes over to talk with me. "Looks like your date got jacked." She whispers to me.
"No, Kate was having a good time with Lyle and him with her. I didn't want to break it up." I reply back to her. They did have fun together, danced and smiled all night.
"I really thought he liked you, guess I was wrong." I made a 'o' shape with my mouth. Lyra admitting, she was wrong was... Big of her.
"Wait, say that again?" I bring my ear closer to her.
"You better go back 5 seconds and remember when I said it the first time because you'll never hear me say it again."
"Hey Jack your girlfriend was wrong about something." He laughs loudly.
"You don't say." He looks at Lyra with a smirk on his face. She shoots him the evil eye.
"We're here." We turn around to see Mary coming out the doors with Darren and Khadijah.
"Where's the Limo?" Darren asked looking around for it.
Suddenly, the limo pulls up. "Let's go."
Quinneth's House:
I grab my purse as I step out the limo. Lyle steps out the car with me.
"Are you sure you don't want to go with us?" Lyle asked me again. Tara and Sara, the blondes, are having an After party at their lake house tonight. Lyle's been making sure that I didn't want to go. If I go he'll have to be with me because he's my date and he won't be with Kate. I don't want to cramp his or her style so I just decided to come home and watch TV.
"Yes, I'm sure Lyle. Go on and have fun with Kate." I say ushering him to the car.
"Hurry up the conversation this limo is paid for by the hour." Khadijah screams at us.
"You better hurry up before Khadijah cuts both our throats."
"I had fun with you, well the time we spent together." He says with a fruity smile.
"You too." I flash him a smile while bringing him into a hug.
"Bye." He walks back to the limo.
"Bye Quinn."
"See you later."
"Call me."
"Bye you guys." I stand in the driveway and wave to them as they drive down the street. Looking up at the sky I see that it's a full moon. The last time I saw a full moon was when I was driving home from Tina's, when Myers stood me up.
It's crazy how the moon is 238,900 million miles from the earth. So distant yet it feels like you could reach out and touch it. Let me head into the house before a neighbor thinks I'm some creep.
Pulling my keys out of my purse I unlock the door. Heading in the house I'm greeted by darkness and silence.
"GRANDPA!" I scream. Standing still for a few more seconds I don't hear a reply. He must be at Irene's house or out with some friends. Where ever he is he'll text and let me know when he's coming home.
Sometimes I forget who the teenager is me or my grandpa.
In an instant I hear something crash in my bedroom. Oh no don't tell me someone is breaking into the house. They pick the perfect time because I'm alone. Also, I'm a scary cat.
I slowly step towards the door grabbing the wooden baseball bat. Walking on my tip toes I walk up the stairs. The stairs creak under my heels. Dang why does this house have to be so old? Arriving to my bedroom door I slowly pushed it open, with all the energy that was left over from homecoming I charge in the room.
"Ahhhhh!" I let out my battle cry, suddenly I stop in my tracks. The baseball bat drops from my hands on to the floor. The only thing I could hear was the baseball bat connecting with the ground.
Somebody I thought that I'd never see again stands in front of me.
"Alexander?" I croak out.
He leans up against my balcony doors, his grey eyes compliment the midnight moon. My chest starts to heave with nervousness. Immediately I jump back to reality he broke into my house. He couldn't just go to the front door?
