章 23: Generation of Miracles?
Walking to Ebisu took quite a short amount of time as Reo and Mikasa pranced through the streets.
"Wow, it's so beautiful!", Mikasa exclaimed with sparkling eyes as she gazed at the colorful buildings.
The sun had nearly set but with the oncoming darkness, the buildings had been lit up early on.
Still, even with the bit of light from the sun, they were still a remarkable sight to behold.
"This is my first time walking around here by myself without my parents. They never let me walk around on my own!", Mikasa said.
Reo felt his brows twitch when he heard that.
Of course her parents wouldn't let her walk the streets on her own. She was only 10 years old after all!
While parents usually allowed their children to walk to and from school by themselves, it usually started when they were at middle school.
Since the rate of kidnapping was too low in Japan, parents still cared about their children's safety after all. As such, they wouldn't give their children permission to wander off by themselves at such a young age.
Thinking about this, Reo wondered if he had made a mistake.
Since Mikasa's parents didn't allow her to wander by herself, what would they say if they found out that Reo had dragged their daughter all the way to Ebisu at nearly 7pm.
Reo quickly shook his head of such thoughts. If they really found out about it, then a spanking was the least of his worries.
Thankfully, Mikasa had informed her parents early on that she would be at Reo's house, studying.
Whether they believed her or not about the 'studying' part, they still let her go.
They had lived beside Reo for a couple of years before so their daughter's safety was pretty much guaranteed inside those 4 walls.
Then, just as Reo was thinking of devising counter measures incase Mikasa's parents found out, Mikasa suddenly squealed in delight.
Reo nearly jumped in fright when he heard that squeal.
Looking at Mikasa, he found that her eyes were sparkling as she gazed at a distant store.
A candy store to be exact.
'Looks like this girl is quite a sweet tooth', Reo thought helplessly.
It was only after a moment, did Mikasa gather herself and blushed in embarrassment. She got far too excited.
Turning to Reo, she pouted and asked in a cute voice,"Reo-kun, I'm going to buy some sweets. Can you wait for me?".
While it was man's responsibility to wait for a woman, Mikasa still didn't trust Reo's change completely.
What if he still had his naughty attitude from before? He would surely leave her crying for a while before appearing again.
As such, she thought it was best for her to act cute and try to make him feel guilty.
Looking at Mikasa's cute expression, Reo sighed helplessly at this girl.
What was she hoping to achieve by acting cute in front of him?
It only took about 2 weeks but he was finally immune to her so-called 'charms'. In his eyes now, she was like a mini, moody tyrannosaurus.
He even imagined that whenever she stomped her foot, earthquakes would happen.
He knew it was mean of him but he couldn't help it. The spirit of an elder brother bullying a younger sister was calling for him!
So, with that, Reo just nodded his head at Mikasa's request.
Seeing Reo accept her request, Mikasa smiled happily before dashing for the candy store.
'So fast!', Reo thought as he saw Mikasa running towards the store at a faster pace than he ever could.
[I wonder what sweets taste like?]
The system couldn't help asking out.
It had no taste buds so it could only leave it up to it's imagination.
When Reo heard this, he was first confused.
'Why would the system want sweets?', Reo thought.
However, his confusion soon disappeared and a naughty smile soon appeared on his face.
'You know, system....For you to ask what sweets taste like, it's hard to explain", Reo put on a helpless expression.
The system started listening intently.
What could be so hard to explain to it, the almighty system? It's learning capabilities were unparalleled to those so called geniuses in the world.
Reo then put on a blissful expression as he held the side of his cheek and pretended to enter into daydream-like state.
"Sweets....It's so sweet and savory that it makes you feel like you're in heaven"
The system was stunned what it heard this.
Sweet? Savory? Makes you feel like you're in heaven?
That sounds really good!
The system couldn't help but start fantasizing about it.
"Not only that....it's crunchiness and burst of flavor might even send one up early!", Reo put on an expression of euphoria as he said this.
Crunchiness? Burst of flavor? So good that it might send you up early?
At this moment, the system couldn't help but curse it's creator for not giving it a mouth to try those sweets out.
"Unfortunately....You can never try it!", feeling that his plan had gone far enough, Reo finally dropped the act.

The system was caught off guard for a few seconds but when it came back to it's senses, it was so enraged that even hell would beg it to come visit them.
This damn bastard actually dared to play it in such a way?! He was to damn evil!
Now, that image of those sweet and savory treats were forever stuck in it's mind. It could only think but not taste.
[Motherf*cker! You want to fight, is it?! You're definitely picking a fight!]
[Come! I dare you to tear apart the void and face me like a man! I will beat you so bad that even your ancestors would disown you! You damn little shit!]
As Reo and the system continued their usual arguing, Mikasa was happily shopping in the candy store.
She was in such a loss that she didn't know what to choose.
She had enough money to buy a lot of it but she wanted to save it up to buy only those that would really please her.
"I need to find sweets that are sweet enough to last the entire Street Ball Rumble", Mikasa mumbled under her breath.
Just then, she heard a young voice from behind her.
"Pretty girl, did you say that you're going to the Street Ball Rumble?"
"Hmm?", Mikasa turned around to see a boy about her own age standing behind her as he looked at her with shining eyes.
'So beautiful!', he thought.
This was definitely the most prettiest girl he had ever met!
Initially, he just came into the candy shop to just get an umaibō but when he saw Mikasa, he decided that he had to get to know her.[1]
Then, it became even better when she talked about the Street Ball Rumble.
Because he was going to compete in it as well!
Looking at the boy's shining eyes, Mikasa was a bit lost.
Who was he and why was he suddenly talking to her?
"I'm sorry, you are?", Mikasa tilted her head in confusion.
However, that one question set the boy's heart on fire.
'So polite!', he thought.
She even said 'sorry'! If this wasn't the perfect girl, he didn't know what was.
Then, putting all those thought to the back of his mind, he held his hand out.
"Mibuchi Daiki, nice to meet you", Mibuchi introduced.
Mikasa was a bit hesitant at first but soon reached out and shook his hand out of good will.
"Nice to meet you, I'm Mikasa Satsuki"
Meanwhile, Mibuchi felt his heart pounding when Mikasa shook his hand.
'So soft!', Mibuchi thought ecstatically as he felt Mikasa's hand.
Also, her name was Mikasa? What a cute name!
At that moment, countless thoughts swam through Mibuchi's mind as he started imagining their future together as husband and wife.
If Mikasa were to hear his thoughts right now, she would surely call the police and run away without a second thought.
This fella was just too scary! He was even more perverted than Reo!
Suddenly, Mibuchi remembered about what they were talking about.
"Mikasa-chan, did you say that you were going to the Street Ball Rumble just now?"
Mikasa nodded lightly as she looked at Mibuchi warily.
This guy was eavesdropping on her this entire time. What if he heard something embarrassing?!
Thinking about this, Mikasa couldn't help but blush lightly.
When Mibuchi saw Mikasa's slightly red face as she blushed, he thought he might have a nosebleed and die from blood loss.
That expression was just too cute!
Meanwhile, Mikasa finally answered in a low voice.
"Yes,I'm going there with a friend"
Mibuchi immediately stiffened when he heard the word 'friend'.
What if it was another guy competing with him for Mikasa-chan?
'No, no ,calm down Mibuchi. It could be another female friend that came with her to watch the rumble or maybe even her parent', Mibuchi tried reassuring himself.
So, sucking in his uneasiness, he hesitantly asked Mikasa, "Mikasa-chan, is your friend or mother going with you? After all, it's easy to get lost in Ebisu at night and it's not good for such a pretty girl to walk all by herself. Maybe I can guide you there?"
Hearing Mibuchi's request, Mikasa slightly furrowed her brows.
As expected, this fellow doesn't have any good intentions with him. He would probably take the chance to ambush her while she was alone to do bad things to her.
Thankfully, she was not so naïve or alone for that matter.
So, as she brought the candy that she initially chose, she hurriedly paid for it at the counter before turning back to Mibuchi.
"I'm sorry but I'm not alone. I'm going with my schoolmate to watch him compete. He's a really good basketball player"
Thwack! Thwack! Thwack!
Three consecutive arrows pierced through Mibuchi's heart as he heard Mikasa's words.
First being that someone was already with her. Still, it was not so bad as it could be her female friend from school.
However, the second part made him feel despair and frustration. It was actually a 'he' who was going with Mikasa-chan to the Street Ball Rumble.
This made his perfect vision of a future together shatter into a million pieces.
Third and finally, she actually complimented the guy!
Mibuchi was also good at basketball but hearing the perfect girl in front of him compliment another guy in the sport that he excelled in was just striking at his sore spot with a lightning bolt.
This made him so frustrated that he wanted to pull his own hair out and make him embrace the way of baldness.
'No! I must definitely find a way to break them up! Mikasa-chan is too good for some random schoolkid!', Mibuchi thought furiously.
Then, putting a forced smile on his face, he carefully asked Mikasa.
"Mikasa-chan, your friend might not know Ebisu that well. Why don't I tag along to show you the way? Of course, it will be safer if more people travel together"
Mikasa felt her lips spasm as she heard Mibuchi's words.
This guy was still not giving up on her! This fella surely has some bad thoughts about her!
Mikasa wanted to say that Reo had already been to the Street Ball Rumble before but she soon held her words in.
What if this fella made another excuse? Never mind, it was easier to make Reo get rid of this fella for her.
Mikasa didn't say anything as she nodded at Mibuchi.
When Mibuchi saw her approval, he was ecstatic. He felt like he had a chance now!
With that, he followed Mikasa out of the store to greet her new 'friend'.
Outside, Reo was still endlessly arguing with the system but soon stopped after noticing Mikasa walk out from the store.
However, she wasn't alone. There seemed to be a skinny boy following her.
Reo initially didn't pay much attention to the boy and just took it that Mikasa made a new friend. After all, he looked to be about the same age as them.
However, he soon tensed up when he got a proper look at the boy.
Tan skin, blue hair and blue eyes. Wait, why does he seem familiar?
It was then that Reo suddenly remembered.
He looked almost similar to a character of one of Japan's most famous animes in his previous world.
However, they shouldn't exist in this world! This was a world of basketball not animes!
This boy looked exactly like one of the players from one of Japan's most famous creation.
The ace of basketball teams, The Generations of Miracles.
[1]Umaibō is a famous small, puffed, cylindrical corn snack which is quite a common snack found in convenience stores in Japan.
