The first thing Song Xin'ai did after coming back to the penthouse was to get out of the dress she wore. After freshening up, she sat down in the living room and turned on the tv. But it seemed like the tv was just there to fill the void that silence had created.
She went to get a bottle of wine and opened it for herself. Pouring herself a glass, she picked up the gifts she received from Xiang Wai and Xiang Weimin. She tore it open and paused as she looked at the exquisitely designed jewelry inside. She suddenly chuckled when she looked at these gifts that were clearly bought from the same place.
Some of you might call Song Xin'ai a fool for looking for recognition from her family. But let's not forget that in Asian families this is nothing. And God forbid if you're born in a family where men are superior to women. Then you'll just be invisible and will spend all your life trying to look for your sense of existence.
Maybe people should get better once they grow up but our childhood shapes us. It's like you can't get over something unless or until you managed to cross over the hurdle that had been stopping you all along.
I'm in no way defending Song Xin'ai. I just wanted to let you all know that there are real-life people like her. In Asian families, disappointing your parents is scarier than anything else. And I'd know that, I've lived in that fear for my whole life.
Hope this helps you see another side of the world.
Thanks for reading.
See you in the next one
