章 34: (Ch 34)Magic lesson II

'Shit Luna how do I tell dad he missed my first breath of fire' - Faith asked while Alzeor gazed proudly at him.

It was a momentous occasion for younger dragons too breath their first jet of fire normally signifying their rise to adulthood. In Faith's case, it was a little different but was still an important moment for both him and his fathers bond together.

'I was meaning to ask how you did that?' - Luna asked rather clueless into the inner working of Faith.

Apart from his shadow magic and linage as a demon she basically knew nothing about the boy other than that he seemed at least a little kind. They hadn't really had time for a Q&a yesterday due to how hectic it was.

'Ask about what… wait did I not tell you I was a half-dragon, half-demon hybrid?' - Faith asked, swearing he'd properly introduced himself at one point.

'No shit head, also just fake it, it's not like the first time is special with fi… wait is it?' - Luna said not knowing if it was such a big deal as Alzeor had made it out to be.

'I have no Idea nor if he can tell its not my first so help me!!!' - Faith internally screamed towards his Rexel looking down at her

"Faith is something wrong?" - Alzeor asked unaware of the conversation going on between him and Luna.

"Huh what no, nothings wrong, nothing at all" - Faith replied sightly nervous and jittery.

Alzeor took it as a sign that he was nervous about being unable to perform and wasn't really surprised. Considering his age such a thing should've never been possible but since Faith already possessed both magic and his dragon heart he should have the ability to breathe at least a little spark.

"Well, then we may as well start" - Alzeor walking over to the glassed off area with the training dummy.

He'd already put Faith down so the boy had to quickly follow his father along as to not get left behind.

"Alright, now this first part shouldn't be too difficult. First, gather mana specifically from your dragon heart slowly let the amount you have build up" - Alzeor said instructing Faith as his father had once done with him.

Faith did as he was told and gathered the mana from his heart or rather the shadow of it. He could feel the seeping purified pitch-black mana slowly course out of his heart as he focused it in one place. Similar to how blood would flow through your body mana of a dragon would flow as well, all coming together at the focal point being the heart for dragons and brain for spirits.

Alzeor being as old as he was could feel the minute vibrations of mana while Faith gathered his purest form of mana in once place. It wasn't surprising that Faith could do it as all things magic generally came nature to dragons but it still made Alzeor proud.

'How do you like that witch, my boys a better dragon then demon and you know it' - Alzeor thought, cursing out the woman who had caused so many problems between him and Lora.

"Good, now let it fill your lungs. Let the mana combine with the natural fire that lives within you" - Alzeor said guiding his son as best he could.

Most dragons would describe this part of the process different. Some would say they had discovered the fire that lived within them while others believed that they'd ignited the mana themselves with pure will.

Alzeor himself wasn't sure which was true but he could tell his son what he'd personally experienced the first time he ignited his own internal flame.

'if I remember correctly it was like a part of me I never knew existed but was alway there erupted forward, like with magic it felt like gaining an entirely new limb you already knew how to use' - Alzeor thought, remembering back to the first time he'd spit hot flames.

Faith tried to follow his father directions letting the mana fills his lungs but nothing happened. He had the fuel and the capacity to fire it but Faith lacked the lighter. Faith honestly tried everything he could but nothing even remotely close to a lighter existed inside his entire body.

'What could it be, I've done this before so maybe I should just try and remember what that felt like' - Faith thought trying to remember how'd he done it before.

It wasn't a particularly nice memory feeling his neck being crushed between the fingers of a giant minotaur but that paled into comparison to what happened after. When he'd been on the edge of death just for few seconds Faith had been forced back into the memories of Noah Hugh.

Only he wasn't Noah hugh, well not anymore.

Noah hugh was an apathetic, unfeeling, sociopath without a care in the world for himself or others. He had nothing important to him and felt nothing which was a far cry from Faith. But he couldn't deny that they were the same person, it just didn't feel like it.

'I can't imagine myself becoming that but I was and for most of my life too' - Faith thought to himself remembering the images of his past self.

Yet he remembered it all and he knew how he'd become like that even if he choose to hide it. When he reached the crushing weight of the memory the minotaur had brought back the memories that only the real Noah hugh could think about without issue, Faith had snapped unable to cope with the trauma of it all.

'That's it then, that's the ignition for my fire' - Faith thought, finding the answer he was looking for but also the one he didn't want.

He still tried but a lifetime on top of 4 years spent suppressing memories had buried them too deep for him to see again even if he wanted to. It could be considered a defensive mechanism against himself so Faith wouldn't drive himself insane by accident but it was still frustrating.

"I don't think I can do it, I know what it is but I can't do it properly" - Faith replied, only then noticing his father was already hugging him.

"Dad?" - Faith asked but Alzeor just kept hugging him.

"Its okay little one, you don't need to worry about that, just be you okay? You don't need to worry about anything other than that" - Alzeor said, shedding a few tears and serving to confuse Faith even more.

'Luna what happened?' - Faith asked, realising that he'd stopped paying attention for a few seconds getting lost in his own thoughts.

'Look around you' - Luna replied a slight hint of fear in her voice.

Faith took her advice and looked around the room only to find a sight that didn't quite match what he'd thought it would look like. The labs on the other side of the glass in the room were still intact… everything else not so much.

The dummy was gone assuringly burned to shreds and the entirety of the wall were filled with scorch marks some of them even containing that same black fire as before, slowly burning away on them. The glass itself meant to serve as a magical insulter had been warped to an almost unrecognisable degree.

'Did… Did I do this?' - Faith asked Luna confused, he hadn't delved into the life of Noah hugh very far and yet it had caused this much fire.

'Yes you did and you did that thing again too' - Luna said, surprised but still afraid.

'Thing?' - Faith asked confused even more.

'Your eyes went lifeless and cold. Your dad tried to stop you but you were already too far gone at that point. Do you really not remembering?' - Luna asked her fear settling a little.

'Now you mention it I remember doing it but it wasn't something conscious like it just happened on its own' - Faith replied.

It was a confusing thing but Faith didn't have time to dwell on it as he tried to assure his Father he was fine. Alzeor, however, couldn't forget what he'd just saw as he gazed into the abyss behind his son's eyes.

Perhaps it was because dragons became creatures of their own desire born from their own will or perhaps it was because Faith had been blessed by Noxis, but when Alzeor starred into those eyes he saw only emptiness and nothing else. Unlike Ervis who had seen the same, it didn't make Alzeor afraid but rather depressed.

Who would want their child to carry such emotions inside them?

"I promise you I'm fine dad" - Faith said giving a big smile and thumbs up since he really was fine.

Faith didn't suffer as long as he didn't try and pry into the past that he had locked away. He was perfectly content with burying his issues if it meant he'd never had to face them again. He was perfectly okay with leaving the man named Noah hugh to rest with his demons while Faith charged forward at the unknown that this world had to offer.
