章 19: (Ch 19)Rexel

Deep within the forest of familiars, a gruesome scene was playing out in a large cavern. The walls and floor were all soaked in thick silver blood as two being's eyed each other. The first was a giant silver fox at least 10 metres long, covered head to toe in terrible wounds that would surely end its life, bleeding out slowly. It held great sorrow and pain in its expression as it gazed hatefully at its Aggressor

The second, standing over the giant fox was a humanoid creature with the distinct features of a bull, covered in brown fur with black horns and carrying an equally large mace. It's face carried no malice towards the creature dying beneath it like it was simply doing its duty.

Slowly words pained words came out of the Rexels mouth "Why… Why would you do this? we children of Luras never aided the sides of light or dark nor attacked the abandoned"

"I'm sorry and trust me you aren't to blame for this but you would've gotten in my way and defended the child of Noxis The Minotaur stated before adding with a dark glint in his eyes "And he must die"

The Rexel paused at this realising the reason its life was being taken was simply because its duty to protect the children once or twice a year got in the way of their plans. From his broken jaw, pained laughter broke out as.

"What's so funny?" - the minotaur asked curious and ready to entertain this dying Rexels last piece of humour.

"Funny? Oh I'm sorry I just find how obscene your hypocritical logic quite the joke" - It laughed back

The minotaur expression slowly regained that dark glint as it asked "And how is my kinds rebellion against the tyranny of the light and dark tribes funny at all? We live, breath and die for the rights of all those who aren't "Graced" by the of those unholy things. I don't find not accepting damnation at birth and fighting to change it funny at all"

"And yet you, who have suffered that so-called unfair damnation simply because of your birth, would seek out and damn someone for that exact reason. You speak of holiness But to be honest, I think You're all just a bunch of hypocritical jealous fuckheads, determined to kill any and everyone that doesn't accept you" - The Rexel replied in kind

"Silence!!! How could you know anything of my kind's plight!?!?" - The minotaur raged stomping towards the Rexel preparing to put it down for good.

"I don't but you also know nothing of any plight I've faced in my life, yet you took it all the same. I have no determination to argue on my deathbed with a bloodthirsty and blind zealot. If you're going to kill me do it already" - The Rexel said in its glum tone, fitting of someone on the edge of death.

The minotaur didn't reply to that request with words, instead swinging down its mace with all the Aura in its body, smashing the Rexel's head into nothing more than a stain on the cavern's floor. The Cavern was silent for a few moments at the signal of the Rexels death before the minotaur muttered "Fate just wasn't on your side today, may the gods have mercy on your soul"

The minotaur stood there like a statue before it felt slight movement out of the shadows behind it, near the entrance of the cave. Turning around in the dark it spotted a much smaller version of the Rexel it just killed, only this one had patterns of black running across its silver fur.

The tiny Rexel Shivered in fear when it realised the minotaur who'd slain its father had spotted it. Before the fear could freeze it in place though instincts kicked in and the Rexel launched itself outside the cave, rushing away as fast as it could.

"Dammit" - the Minotaur muttered before giving chance at a leisurely speed.

The Rexel ran and ran to escape the thing that had taken her father's life. She was barely eight years old but from experience knew that the bull's bloodlust would extend to her too. A silver light highlighted in black came off her as she squeezed all her aura into her feet to increase her speed.

Yet with every step, she could feel the tremble the minotaur left behind as it etched closer and closer by the second.

In this situation, most would have given up because with her father's death the forest would be a bloodbath until a new king or queen was Crowned, in other words, no help would come her way now unlike before. Yet She held on as her silver feet leapt over the Azura bluegrass and purple logs that got in her way.

In a last-ditch effort, she channelled some of her little mana into one of her unique bloodline abilities, Moonsight. The tremor only got louder and louder as she frantically looked around for any sign of salivation with her moonsight. Many things appeared as the mana patterns of different beasts, familiars and what felt like children flashed by.

"Caught you" - a deep voice muttered behind her before a force unlike any other she'd ever felt smashed into her side, sending her barreling through trees and into a clearing.

Pain ravaged her body as she fell lied in the clearing trying her best to move and assess the damage. From what she could tell her lungs and ribs were badly damaged and her legs now lacked the strength to move, the overexertion from her aura use kicking in.

Just as hope seemed to be sapped from her body she saw a light or rather a lack of one. Standing in the clearing she'd been slammed into was 9 different demon children, 8 of which were standing off in a battle stance against one. Yet out of all these children, there was only one that gave her hope that this situation might be able to turn around.

It was the boy that even surrounded by what seemed to be enemies rushed to her aid the second he noticed her and the injuries she'd sustained. Out of all the mana patterns she'd seen with moonsight his was unique.

Instead of giving off a glowing light of affinity, his mana was like that of an endless abyss and encompassed his entire being in a veil of shadow. It was a strange contrast between the eyes of the boy holding worry and care as he rushed towards her. The white-haired boy in front of her ignored the shouting of the other demons as he inspected her wounds before abruptly stopping.

She could tell from the look on his face that he'd noticed the thing chasing her, but also was surprised. Those red and purple eyes held no fear only anticipation as he gazed into the direction of the minotaur.

'Can he save me'

She thought, unsure of how she'd been so lucky to find someone that wouldn't abandon her in the face of that monster.
