章 16: Candid
POV Bane
He had made a mistake. He had let his own greed get the better of him, and he had threatened The Curator, and that was stupid.
He read the message again.
'How's Zannah?'
He hadn't even told anyone her name, yet he expected nothing less from the man. Not letting his regret show, he gave his request for what he wished to obtain, hoping The Curator would....forgive him? Hopefully not end his life?
The message came back, "Give me 3 months."
POV Malekith
Oriana walked in as he sent the message. "Are you doing anything particularly important?"
"Just messaging a.... client. What brings you in?"
"I want to talk about earlier."
"If you accuse me of something I will tell you now that I regret nothing.", he spoke in a teasing tone.
"I'm so...oh. I....oh."
"Did....did you come in to apologise for essentially fulfilling what most guy's consider a fantasy..."
"I....what?"
Malekith prepared his best perv voice, "*Yes, I saved the beautiful lady from a minor inconvenience and immediately received her affection*, you have nothing to apologise for."
"I... it's just...you didn't ask, and then your daughter walked in and I..."
"Did I appear to have any qualms about having a lovely lady on top of me that I expected to cause me bodily harm proceed to make out with me on a floor."
"Actually, now that you put it that way, maybe I'm not the one that should feel guilty here.", she said with a smile.
"I reiterate that I regret nothing."
"You are extremely unpredictable."
"Said the woman that went from pointing a blade at my throat to making out with me on a floor."
"You can stop emphasizing that now."
"Will do."
"Also, why did you hesitate when saying client?"
"Said client is likely the last remaining sith lord in the Galaxy."
"And why the fuck would you tell me this!? Or keep him as a client!?"
"Because you're a smart girl that would understand that this man could not likely be taken down by me or the Jedi and this way I can keep an eye on him."
"Why would you say that?"
"Which part?"
"Us being unable to take him down?"
"There will always be sith in the Galaxy, no matter what we do. The force has a grand plan, a plan that involves them and those born to defeat them that have yet to come into being. As far as sith go, he's not... horrible, I'd rather have a sith that is happy laying low and not causing damage."
"How in the world are you convincing a Jedi to not aggressively track down and end a sith?"
"Because the Jedi knows that, if I can't, she probably can't."
"Why is he laying low?"
"He's the one that killed the rest of the sith."
"How....Rusaan, the Sith didn't end themselves on purpose."
"I knew you were smart...but not that smart. Yes."
"Why?"
"He believes the dark side should be kept as two, one to hold the knowledge, and one to learn."
"He wants to consolidate the power, remove competition."
"He also doesn't believe in waging a war, he's much more subtle."
"Again, why are you telling me this?"
"Did I have a good reason not to?"
"I'd say protecting yourself, but I doubt enough people would believe me to matter."
"You know, I really like you."
"Don't get many people that can keep up with you?"
"I don't meet many people in general, but yes."
"What exactly are you doing for him, then?"
"Providing him with Artifacts. I'm sorry, I don't trust a temple with children to hold the artifacts I'm trading. And if I tried to keep them safe, he'd just steal them."
"I think you underestimate yourself."
"And I think the force wants this man to succeed in some capacity, so I'd rather not fight it."
"At least you're helping us more."
"We'll be arriving soon."
"Ah....I guess, tell me about Yavin."
And so they discussed the planet's history for the remnants of the night.
