Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

"Firs' years! Firs' years over here!" came the voice of the tall man.

Continuing on a narrow path, the man said again, "C'mon, follow me. Anymore firs' years? Mind yer step! Firs' years follow me!"

It was really dark on both sides of the path, the students' only guide through it was the giant of a man holding the lantern.

"Yeh'll get yer firs' sight o Hogwarts in a sec" the man said over his shoulder, "Jus' round this bend here." he continued moving the luntern toward the area that he was talking about.

After taking the turn the path opened up to the shore of a great black lake, on the other side, they could see, sitting atop a mountain with its windows sparkling in the starry sky, was an enormous castle with many turrets and towers.

The kids' exclamation of wonder was interrupted by the adult, "No more'n four to a boat!"

This made them all look to the lake, and see the small fleet of little boats waiting to be used.

As the students embarked, Robert noticed that he ended up sharing his boat with Daphne, Hermione and Tracy. Before the girls could introduce themselves to each other their guide shouted from the boat ahead, "Everyone in? Right then, Forward!"

And the little boat started to magicly sail off, all at once. The students were all silent, marveling at the castle in the distance.

Some didn't even bother to heed to the warnings of the big man about lowering their heads to pass at an opening in a cliff below the castle. Nothing really happened, they were all small enough to go by without any issues.

The opening led to a cave and the cave to an underground harbor, where all the boats docked and the student got out.

After checking to see if everyone was in land, the guide took them to a passageway that led to a small clearing in the shadows of the castle. They walked up a flight of stone steps and stood around the huge oak front door.

The man took one last look at the crowd, nodded his head then gave the door three knocks.

The door opened, on its other side stood a tall, black haired witch in green robes. She was adorning a very stern face.

"The firs' years, Professor McGonagall." said the big man.

The woman gave the man a little nod and said, "Thank you, Hagrid. I'll take them from here."

Afterwards the professor got the children inside the castle and led them towards a side room, they could hear faint voices from a doorway to the right.

Now inside the small room, all the kids were closer than they usually would be but they didn't have time to complaint as Ms. McGonagall began talking, "Welcome to Hogwarts!"

"The start of term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the Great Hall, you'll be sorted into your houses. The Sorting is a very important ceremony because, while you are here, your house will be something like your family within Hogwarts. You will have classes with the rest of your house, sleep in your house dormitory and spend free time in your house common room." she said in a flat tone.

After taking a breath she continued, "The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. each has its own noble history and each has proud outstanding witches and wizards. While you're here your triumphs will earn you house points, while rule braking will lose you house points. At the end of the term the house with the most points will be awarded the House Cup."

She then gave a glance at the students and said, "The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you are waiting."

This made all the students start trying to fix their hairs or straighten their uniforms. The professor left, and, as she did so, the waiting children could hear one of them saying "I hope Fred was joking when he said that it is a test that hurts a lot."

This only served to increase their anxiety. All of them had scared looks, Hermione was muttering rather loudly all the spells she knew, trying to not forget them.

The whole crowd screamed when they saw a group of about twenty ghosts show up passing through the back wall.

The intruders didn't seem to notice the frightened children as they talked about some ghost that wasn't a ghost called Peeves.

Suddenly they were noticed, and all the ghosts turned their attention to the big eyed kids, they tried to know why they were there but no one gave them answers. Their curiosity was satisfied when a voice came from the door that they entered, "Move along now, the Sorting Ceremony is about to start."

The ghosts, seeing the professor, did as they were told and left her with the new students.

With them away McGonagall turned to the students and said, "Now, form a line and follow me."

She led them out of the room, back through the hall and into a pair of double doors that led to the Great Hall.

They were once again impressed, the hall was lit up by thousands of candles that floated over four long tables, at the top of the hall there was another long table where the teachers were seating. The most interesting part was the ceiling, it was showing a beautiful starry night sky, remarkably similar to the one seen outside.

Professor McGonagall had them wait at the beginning of the hall, whereas she strolled through it and placed a small stool and a pointed wizard's hat on top of it.

Everyone present stared at the hat, and the item didn't disappoint. A rip near the brim opened wide like a mouth and the hat started singing.

The song talked about the houses and their values, it also said that it was the one to decide what house the students would be sorted in.

After the song the hall exploded in applause, the hat bowed to each of the tables and laid still in wait for its job to begin.

Professor McGonagall then stepped forward and unrolled a long parchment, she said, "When I call your name, you will put on the hat and sit on the stool to be sorted."

Then she started reading, the first name was "Abbot, Hannah!"

A pink-faced girl, with blonde pigtails got out of the group and went towards the stool, put on the hat and sat down, a few seconds later the hat's voice exclaimed, "HUFFLEPUFF!"

The woman then proceeded to call out names in an alphabetical order, Robert only paid attention to the ones that he knew. The children form the families Bulstrode, Crabbe, Davis and Goyle all went to Slytherin, the next was Hermione and just like she wanted, she went to Gryffindor, after her was Daphne who also went to Slytherin.

After that, the next known person to Robert was Malfoy, he along with Pansy went to Slytherin.

Following Pansy, were the Patil twins, they were interesting because they ended up in different houses, one to Gryffindor and the other to Ravenclaw, after them was a girl called Sally-Anne, who also went to Gryffindor.

The next one was Rose. When the professor called her name the hall went into murmurs and Rose went red, it was quite clear that she was really uncomfortable, she even walked a little faster than the others.

Her's was the longest sorting, the hat stayed silent for a few minutes after which it shouted "GRYFFINDOR!"

The table of the lions went into an uproar, they were shouting and celebrating as if they had won some sort of competition, the other tables only reacted with small applause, some of the students even had disappointed faces while they looked at the girl going to the leftmost table.

Two more students were sorted after the Girl-Who-Lived and Robert finally heard, "Rosier, Robert!"

He went to the stool and just like all the others before him, put the hat and took a seat.

'What do we have here, a pretty impressive head you have, kid!' Rob heard in his head.

He was surprised, a mind reading hat, he wondered how that could be made.

'A inquisitive mind, I see, you're starting to shape up in a good young raven, what do you say?' came the voice again.

Robert realised that the hat would ignore his barriers and decided to just talk with it, 'I don't mind which house you put me in, I just want to have fun with my friends and learn magic.'

The hat gave a humming sound to that and continued, 'I can see that you had much influence from Slytherins, you'd do well in there. You'd be able to change the house's image to the rest of the school.'

'Tell me, young Rosier, would you prefer to just simply learn about magic, or would you like to change those around you?' the hat finished, he seemed really interested in his answer.

'I…' Robert considered, he didn't know what the hat ment, how could he, one student, change the view of three houses? The hat seemed to put too much expectation on him. Still, he wanted to have fun, the way the hat said it seemed that if he chose Ravenclaw, he'd only study and nothing more. So he made his mind up. When he was going to tell the hat he heard, "SLYTHERIN!"

'Yeah, mind reading hat.' were the last tough he had before he removed the artifact from his head and walked to the rightmost table.

He seated between Tracy and Daphne, both giving him a bright smile and a warm welcome to their new home.

The sorting continued and the last person that Robert knew to be sorted was Ron, he like the rest of his family went to Gryffindor. After him was the last person to be sorted, a dark skinned boy called Blaise Zabini, he went to Slytherin as well.

Professor McGonagall rolled up the scroll and took the Sorting Hat away.

Albus Dumbledore got to his feet, his arms opened wide, he had a big smile on his face, he said, "Welcome! Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts! Before we begin our banquet, I would like to say a few words. And here they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak!"

After that he thanked and sat down, the students clapped, all of them adorning confused expressions.

When the students finished with their claps, the food started to appear, and the sound of conversation and cuttelary took over the hall.

Robert took this opportunity to introduce himself to the first years that he hadn't met before and had sat near him, they were Blaise Zabini and Lily Moon.

The boy was reserved, but he eventually opened up and from their conversation Rob could say that he disliked muggleborns and the ones from families that he dubbed "blood traitors", he was also vain, his talks about how his mother managed to get rich through various marriages and how proud that made him, was a clear sign of how he'd be.

The girl, on the other hand was sweet, she did seem to lose attention in the middle of the conversations but she was pretty fun to interact with.

Their conversations were cut off when the headmaster got up when the desserts had disappeared.

"Just a few more words now that we are all fed and watered, I have a few start-of-term notices to give you." he began. "First years should note that the forest in the grounds is forbidden to all pupils. And a few of our older students would do well to remember that as well." the last statement was given with him looking at the twins that sat at the Gryffindor table.

After returning his attention to all the students he continued, "I have also been asked by Mr. Filch, the caretaker, to remind you all that no magic should be used between classes in the corridor."

"Quidditch trials will be held in the second week of term. Anyone interested in playing for their house teams should contact Madam Hooch." turning his tone a little more serious he finished, "And finally, I must tell you that this year, the third floor corridor on the right hand side is out of bounds to everyone who doesn't wish to die a very painful death."

His serious tone vanished when he spoke a few seconds later, "And now, before we go to bed, let us sing the school song!"

It was a mess, everyone sang to the tune that they wanted, some sang in an upbeat mood, other in a somber one, atlass it ended and the first years were made to follow the prefects to their common rooms.

They left the Great Hall towards the Entrance Hall and took a door that was on the right side of it. Behind the door was a set of stone steps which descended deep into the dungeons. Once there, they had to say the password while standing in front of a bare stretch of stone wall.

When they got in they could see that the common room looked like a dungeon with greenish lamps and chairs. The room extends partway under the lake, which made the light in the room take in a green tinge.

The common room had lots of low backed black and dark green button-tufted leather sofas, skulls and dark wood cupboards, one of the wooden tables had a Wizard's Chess set on it. The walls were decorated with tapestries that showed the adventures of famous Medieval Slytherins.

After all the students were in the common room the prefects gave them a speech about house loyalty, and how "Slytherins don't fight outside that door." as he pointed at the door that they entered through.

They were informed about the password and how it'd change every fortnight, it was also a house rule to not let students of other houses in their common room and they would all share rooms, boys with boys and girls with girls.

The first years went to their respective dormitories and all straight to bed, that had been a long day for all of them.

Thanks for reading.

Ps.: I had in my mind these houses arrangements since before I started the story, I know that I might've misled y'all with the conversation at the express, so sorry about that.

I did consider sending them to Ravenclaw, but I couldn't make a story that I liked with them there, so I stuck with my initial choice.
