章 10: Chapter 10:Trouble at Sea
The night was quite, at the end of Amethyst shift she saw a ship at the horizon. She woke us up, then said crashing on the bed "Ship starboard at the horizon, potential pirates, I will sleep now so please keep the noise to a minimum. " yawning. "Emerald, if they are pirates, swim to and board their ship then kill them. Ruby and I will assist by sailing towards them if we are lucky their captain head might be worth something. If they are not pirates, we don't bother to change course. " I ordered the two strong girls.
After 5 minutes a jolly roger depicting a vertical grey spear piercing a white skull with a black background became discernible, a typical Pirate flag, belonging to "Vlad the Impaler " a javelin and spear user with a bounty of 20.000.000B. Seconds later Emerald dived in the sea with her two battleaxe strapped on her back, I changed our course to intercept the pirate ship.
When we closed the gap to 100 meters, a 3.5 meters tall man with a disproportionate 1 meter large right arm holding a 3 meters long and 20 cm diameter javelin stood on their prow. And threw the javelin toward me, really nothing to brag about, I grabbed it mid flight slightly push back by the strength behind it. I could probably do about the same if I threw the javelin myself even if my right arm was clearly not as strong as his it's only a question of muscle coordination against brute force.
"Ruby, I think they lost something. Can you give it back to them? " I said with a playful voice.
"Sure, dear. " she mischievously replied, taking the javelin from me. She took a throwing stance flexed her muscles and the javelin disappeared and embedded itself in the pirates ship mast.
10 minutes before on the pirate ship.
"Captain, what do we do with the kid? For the eggs, I understand that when we raise and tame them those birds will become an asset to our strength. But the kid? " asked the 2nd in command.
"The kid was collecting herbs and plants near the birds nest, she obviously took them because they can be of use. Probably medicinal properties, a kid with such knowledge can be valuable at worse we will just sell the kid as a slave. " explained captain Vlad the Impaler.
"Captain, ship in view! " yelled the lookout. "Not Marine nor openly pirate maybe merchant but the ship is too small for a large shipment. " he continued.
"How many people visible? " inquired the 2nd in command.
"Two people on deck, probably more inside. "
"Captain, your orders? " asked the 2nd in command.
"Bring me my ship destroying javelin, I will let them know why they call me the Impaler. Set course towards them, I will send them a present for their afterlife. " ordered the Captain.
Two pirates brought a 3 meters long 20cm large wooden javelin coated in steel weighting 200kg with great difficulty to the deck and passed it to their captain. Vlad grabbed it with ease and under the cheering of his crew got to the prow of the ship. When the distance between the ships shrank to 100 meters he threw the javelin with utmost precision and strength towards the man on the other ship. Standing proudly after the fact waiting for the moment when his target would be reduced to a mess of flesh and blood laying into the broken deck.
He froze as the unreal scene playing on the other ship deck, the man who was supposed to become mush stood there perfectly fine with his javelin in hand then he passed it to the woman with horns on her forehead. The next moment, Vlad felt a sense of weightlessness before his back hit something then tremendous pain erupted from his chest before his vision turned black and died impaled to the mast of his own ship.
Emerald was climbing on the back of the pirate ship, the sound of her axes planting in the boat hull was covered by the cheering of the pirates while their captain was retrieving the javelin. When she got to the deck, the entire pirate crew was completely astonished. Faced with unmoving targets, she started a massacre wielding her dual axes cutting down pirates one after the other. The shocked pirates didn't even have time to process their captain death before facing an axe wielding blood covered demon.
She didn't feel any remorse about butchering the pirates possibly because of her fishman bloodline. Her axes cutting off limbs as easily as a red hot knife cuts in butter, overwhelming them with her inhuman strength and pure fear. Decapitating the luckiest while the more unfortunate were left to bleed out with their entrails exposed to the fresh air and some missing limbs. Minutes later, the two ships were docked with each other and all pirates were corpses most of them left in more than one piece.
Emerald dumped the pirates remains off the ship, leaving the captain corpse impaled as he was the only one with a bounty on his head. She then dived in the sea to wash the blood off her skin and hairs, came back on our ship to dry herself and changed her clothes. Emerald took the helm of our ship maintaining our course, Ruby then got to the pirate ship helm steering it in the same direction while I got onto the ship to inspect their cargo.
I first took down the pirate flag, then got inside the ship. The storage room was almost full, they must have left an island fairly recently less than 3 days ago. In the hold, I saw a 8 years old tanned chubby little girl with dark green eyes and braided light brown hair who was tied up in a cell and 4 carefully stored 1 meter height eggs.
"Are you fine? The pirates are all dead, you have nothing to worry about. What's your name? " I said with a reassuring tone while I opened the cell door.
"I am hungry but otherwise fine, mister. My name is Shania Karso, I come from the Kingdom of Birds. They kidnapped me while I was searching for medicinal plants, the eggs are from the birds of our island and they will be furious if anything happens to them. " answered Shania in a composed tone unfit for her age.
"We will go to my ship and wake our sleeping cook to make you something. If you can keep a secret, we will tell you ours because I am interested in your knowledge about medicinal herbs and plants. " untying her.
"There is a library on my island with all I know about plants and herbs. "
"You memorised all of it? " I asked.
"Yes, I love medicine so I learned all I could find about it but apart from the knowledge about vegetation our medical knowledge isn't very advanced. My twin sister and I planned to go to other islands to increase what we know about our field of interest. " excitedly replied Shania.
"Do you want to join our crew? We will need medical personnel and we can also take your sister with us if you want but you will have to train hard because our main activity will be hunting down pirates. " I invited her while warning her that she would have to put effort into it.
"I am only 8, are you certain you want someone so young on your ship? " she asked worried about being rejected.
"I will tell our secret now since you are interested in joining. I am only 7 years old and the eldest is not even 9 years old. We trained hard for 2 years while learning in our respective field of interest. My body's age however is 16 years old due to a devil fruit power from our cook. Do you understand? "
"A devil fruit?" she mumbled as she thought of something, "I understand. Thanks for welcoming me. " bouncing back to a more cheerful mood.
"You will have to train seriously to catch up because after our stop at the Kingdom of Birds we will make our way to the Karate Island to learn and master martial art. You both will have to be fit and you will need an alias when your age is changed. My name is Burc D'Eres with the alias Rogue, yours will be Malachite. All the girls in my crew aliases are the name of a gemstones corresponding to their eye colour. " I informed her.
Suddenly a very loud gurgling sound emanated from the small girl.
"Now let's feed you before you faint. " I jokingly said bringing her to our ship.
After waking up our cook, we ate breakfast then Amethyst and Shania got to a room to change Shania age. Emerald got clothes from the pirates to outfit Malachite who was aged up to 16 years old, she was short only 130cm but was nearly a meter large at the waistline. Malachite understood that her previous lifestyle was unhealthy, lack of exercise, eating too much rich food and reading all day long. She started to exercise with the lowest weight 5kg and tried to finish the regular morning exercise without weight on but failed to do it in one session. However she completed the amount of two usual morning exercise worth of training in the entire day, during breaks she read some books about physiology and at night got a taste of the special training.
Before nightfall we tied the ships together with heavy ropes to only need to steer one ship, we stored Vlad the impaled Impaler corpse in the hold of the pirate ship. I contacted Rear Admiral Klaus to inform him about the death of the pirate crew of Vlad the Impaler, he was surprised that we already took down one of the known pirates of South Blue.
