Nilsine exits the tavern after failing to retrieve her father. She sighs as cold winds cut through her hair. Wrapping her hands under her arms she makes the trip back home, walking through the Stone Quarter.
It isn't long before she hears whispers and footsteps that don't belong to her. Shadows grow in front of her and she can feel the eyes of a stranger staring at her. There's a tap on her right shoulder and she whirls around to come face to face with someone she doesn't know.
"Don't do that! You scared me half to death!" Nilsine shouts. She could see the stranger look around before settling back on her face.
"Nilsine Shatter-shield?" The stranger's voice sounds friendly and dangerous at the same time, which was confusing. Nilsine takes a step back.
"Y-yes?" How does the stranger know her name? Why are they speaking at night? Questions race through her head as she watches them pull something off of their back. It's a warhammer.
"Does this belong to you, by any chance?" Nilsine took a closer look and as she recognizes the hammerwork she comes to the conclusion that it's Aegisbane, the stolen Shatter-shield heirloom. Looking back up to the strangers face, she sees a smile.
"Muiri and her fiancé stole that." Her voice holds slight anger and astonishment. "How did you get it back?" The stranger continues to stare before speaking again.
"That is incorrect. The man that used her stole it." Their voice is serious, they don't seem to be lying but Nilsine doubts their words. She can't help but notice that the stranger avoided her question.
"Is that what Muiri told you?" Nilsine laughs lightly at the strangers' words. Looking back into the strangers eyes, she sees a small fire in them.
"It's what both of them told me."
"Alain told you that as well?" She continues to look into the strangers eyes, searching for some sort of sign that she's lying but there is none. The stranger smiles, like they know what she's doing.
"Yes, just before I killed him." There's a sense of joy in their voice, and Nilsine shudders at the sound of it.
"Are you here to return it or did you just come to prove Muiri's innocence?" She begins to grow impatient. This conversation has lasted much longer than it should have, and she really needs to get home.
"Technically speaking I did come to return something, yes."
"Then I'll show you to our home." Nilsine turns around and begins to walk away. She only hears her own footsteps so she looks behind her to see if the stranger is actually following her.
The stranger's arms are in the air, heaving Aegisbane above them. As they bring the hammer down, the slightest of screams escapes Nilsine's mouth.
Ghel looks down at the body of Nilsine Shatter-shield and grimaces.
"You're not a very nice person, are you?" Her question sits in the cold air, hovering above Nilsine's body. She squats down next to it, Aegisbane slung over her shoulders. "I guess you can't really answer the question now, can you?" She smiles ever-so-slightly as she pulls a Nightshade out and lays it on Nilsine's chest.
