章 21: Little Boy
My heart started racing as he let go and let my hand fall back to my pad. I stared at him, why did he care?
I have not known him long enough to share my secrets. No way! I don't know him at all.
"I made a mistake when I was young and it's stupid, that's all." I said.
"Everyone is young and stupid from time to time, but they do not try to kill themselves," he snapped.
It was almost as if he was taking this personally. I sighed and remained calm.
"Sorry Mr. Mu, you don't know me or anything about me. And we are not friends remember, so what happened to me in my past is none of your business here."
There I said it. I put him in his place and politely told him to back off.
"I apologize," he said as he looked straight ahead.
Just then I started to feel a bit of regret for my a bit harsh tone. So I got up from the bench.
"I'm starving, would you like a bun or wrap?" I asked.
"No, I don't want a food if you are hungry then I'll take you to a proper restaurant for lunch." He suggested.
I laughed as I turned my back to him and started walking away.
"Suit yourself Mr. Mu, but I'm going to get me a hot dog from the hot dog stand." I heard him mumble something under his breath, and before I knew it, he was walking beside me.
"Do you ever listen to anyone?" He angry.
"No, and I do only what I want." I cut him.
"Indeed. I can tell that," he mumbled under his breath thinking I didn't hear him, but I did.
So I casually smiled and kept walking. We reached the street food parlour, and I looked at him.
"So you want one or not?"
He frowned at me and growled at the wrap parlour.
"Give me two beefy wraps." I order to the seller.
When the seller packed, I grabbed my wraps and apologized to the seller and whispered.
"Sorry brother. He's mad because I'm forcing him to eat a wrap when he wanted a fancy lunch."
The seller and I laughed as Mu Kai walked over to a wooden table.
Then I walked over to the condiment stand and topped my wrap with relish, onions, beefy and gravy sesame sauce. So I grabbed a bunch of tissues and sat down next to Mu Kai at the small street table.
He looked over at my wraps and then look at me with disgust in his eyes.
"That is gross," he said as he took a bite of his plain wraps.
"Gross, what a dumb comment, this is heaven you know nothing," I took a large bite and watched him stare at me as I chewed.
"You do realize how bad that is for you, right?" He scold at me.
I put my finger up.
"You only live once, so why not make the best of it." I ignored his scolded.
He tried to hold back a smile, but I saw it and it made me smile back. I shoved my wrap at him.
"Here take a bite." I shoved mine to him.
"That's grossed, get that thing away from my mouth," he frowned.
"No! Not until you take a bite Mr. Mu, after that you can judge if it's gross or not," I adamant.
Then I kept moving my wraps closer to his mouth as he rolled his eyes and finally took a bite. He chewed it, and I laughed at the glob of ketchup he had in the corner of his mouth.
So I took a tissues and wiped it.
Instantly, he put his hand on mine like he wanted to jerk it away, but he didn't and he stared at me with fear in his eyes. Then I took the tissues away and smiled as if I didn't notice his reaction.
"You had the sauce right there, and I didn't want it to get on your shirt." I said.
He nodded his head.
"Thanks."
"Most welcome little boys," I teased.
Then he rolled his eyes at me.
