CHAPTER 13: Reassembly

Having turned feral, Kresha was running more on animalistic instincts than anything else.

She had locked herself in her bedroom out of desperation, and that quickly became a cage to her monstrous side.

Once Arkyn opened the latch to the door, she saw her chance to flee for food. Having spotted something that looked like flesh and blood, she chased Arkyn only to be trapped again behind a wall of ice.

It could have been the pain of wiping out along the wet stone, or it could have been the feeling of the ice containing her own magic, but it was enough to bring the rage down and focus to change the wall from ice to water using her own willpower.

They still operated on the same magic frequency, so she had just as much control over the wall as Arkyn did. In his pondering about what the hell she was, he overlooked the fact that such an option was available.

Being so close, he had no chance to escape as she fell on top of him. Her clawed fingered wrapped around his arms and thrusted her jaw of fangs around his neck. She bit down on his throat as soon as his back was on the floor.

Arkyn tried to pull himself free, not concerned about the puncturing fangs or crushing grip. His worry was focused on the sections of his limbs being torn or his head starting to separate from his body.

Monster Kresha was agitated to find no blood or real flesh under Arkyn's throat. That didn't stop her though from constantly biting in an attempt to find something worth consuming.

After finding nothing, she let out a howl of aggravation and fled further down the tunnels. Leaving Arkyn in literal pieces.

One leg had been bent from the gripping weight while the other was severed at the calf. Both arms were chipped and fragmented along the floor, leaving his twisted head and torso flat on his back.

Arkyn hadn't even had a chance to play dead in the brief encounter and could only hope that when he turned back to his metal form, everything would reform like it did when he lost his arm.

In a flash of light, every piece of his body turned silver and melted like warm mercury. Through the grey gems he used to see, Arkyn watched all the elemental energies in his scattered body begin rebalancing.

The runes that comprised his body were glowing hot as they slowly began to reshape his body. In that slow process, Arkyn took the time to finally settle down.

He had only been reacting out of instinct and fear of the unknown. Now that he thought about it, Kresha missing should have been the first clue into understanding that she was the very same thing that chased him around the halls.

Now that he had time to think, he realised that something needed to be done, and killing Kresha was not on the table.

'I just need to find her and contain her long enough to turn her back into her slightly less monstrous form.' He thought while watching the green energies of the earth element reshape his fragmented arms.

'If madam Kresha locked herself in a room, then she knew something like this would happen, meaning it could have happened before.'

Pockets of air made by the yellow elemental energies were reinflating the crushed leg. Giving him just a few seconds left before he would eventually become one solid body again.

'I just need to find the cause or possibly the notes she would keep of . . . such . . . things.'

Arkyn was so distracted about his previous revelation of what the creature was, that he almost didn't finally solve his affinity issues with earth and air magic.

'That's it!' He shouted internally once his head did a one-eighty degree turn back into place.

'Just like water and fire control the temperature and flexibility of the metal, earth and air control the volume and shape.' Arkyn quickly began testing the theory while running down the stairways that Kresha had fled through.

Rather than focusing the energies like he had done so many times before into bubbles, he used the air and earth at the same time. The teal mana of his mind moved the yellow and green at the same time using their opposing characteristics to shape his arm from a hand to a circular sphere.

He created a pocket of air inside while pushing the boundaries of the earth, causing it to swell until it became a large, hollow bubble. Arkyn was excited to have discovered such an ability, but knew he couldn't experiment with it.

Kresha was still running around, looking for food and it wouldn't be long before she found the Harvest Cavern. Even if he managed to turn her back somehow, killing her entire supply of food would only make things worse.

Arkyn followed the claw marks further down the Keep and spotted the havoc Kresha wreaked on some of the golems. Any that were too big or slow to avoid her were shoved aside violently, getting knocked over or embedded slightly in the wall. Most had received an imprint of her foot or hand along the metal plating.

Once he made his way across one of the catwalks of the Golem Cavern, He spotted her mane of wild hair. He ducked into an alcove and watched her tackle a mining golem.

She started to pry open a panel between the shoulder and neck of the golem. The thick plate creaked loudly from the force, nearly at its breaking point before she stopped.

Her tongue slithered out and started digging inside the opening she made. After a few seconds of rummaging, the long tongue started shooting back and forth, pulling a purplish-red sludge out of the gears and

'Fangbell, she is looking for blood and what must have been a blood substitute.' Arkyn thought before springing to action.

Kresha threw the golem to the side shortly after obtaining what she wanted, and turned around to Arkyn's full metal form charging at her. Both arms were now cylinderical maces, made to oppose and bruise.

He knew he couldn't harm Kresha as she was, there was no telling how the damage would affect her when turning back to normal. Using water or fire magic would hurt her while earth and air wouldn't be capable of anything but changing the shape of his body.

The best he could think of was a two-step plan of combat and cages.
