章 4: And so the war begins
"Let go of him, let go of him or I will rip your heart out!" Said, James
"Yeah? You and what army?" Said one of the werewolves
James looked into the group of werewolves and tried to figure out who said it.
"Oh yeah, you think you're so tough? Why don't you come to me and find out?" James replied
"Don't little brother it's not worth it, you could get yourself killed." Derek struggled to say while groaning
"Oh, brother you and I both know they can't beat me." Said James with a smirk on his face
"Get him!" Miguel screamed
The wolves started to circle James until they blocked off every side of him.
James looked around, put his arms up, and said, "Let's do this Gentlemen."
One of the werewolves charged at James and hit him, James grabbed him and threw him into a wall. Two more werewolves rushed at him and he ripped both of their hearts out instantly.
James looked at Miguel and said, " Come on just let my brother go and call your guards dogs off."
"Yeah I mean they obviously can't beat him and you definitely won't be able to beat both of us on your own so why don't you take your hand outta my chest and we all find a way to live in this town together?" Said Derek while struggling
Miguel looked around at the body parts of his former werewolf brethren and said, "Well you are not wrong, they really can't beat you."
"I have a question for you James, what are you?" "You have the eyes of a werewolf but the abilities of a vampire, how is that so?" Miguel asked James
"I'm a hybrid, I'm half-vampire and half werewolf by my knowledge I'm the only one of my kind but I would like to find more people like me." Replied James
Miguel took his hand out of Derek's chest and called his werewolves off, he said to the brothers, " You guys could make a difference around here with how powerful you both are combined. Put that to good use and keep everyone in this town safe no matter if they're human or if they are like us."
"I'm willing to help if you are." Said James to Derek
Derek looked up and said, "The only way I'll agree to that is if you werewolves agree to help us find out who killed our mother."
Miguel smirked and said, "Let's go and find your murderer."
Everyone parted ways and made their way home. The werewolves went into the woods where they belonged and the brothers got inside of their cars and drove to Derek's house.
The next morning James got a text from Miguel saying to meet him at the "Old Mill Tavern" in Chester, NJ.
James went and knocked on Derek's door, "Let's go we have a long day ahead of us."
"Ughh what time is it?" Derek asked
"It's ten o'clock in the morning." Replied James
"Alright, I'm coming."
James walked downstairs and started to make breakfast.
"Come on we'll just get something on the road." Said, Derek
"Do you know any good fast food places in New Jersey?" Asked James
Derek looked at him and said, "New Jersey? What the hell are we going all the way to New Jersey for."
"Miguel texted me this morning and said he has a lead, he knows a banshee that lives there and he thinks she can help us find whoever it us we're looking for." Responded James
"Who's car are we taking?"
"We're taking your car, I'm not risking destroying my baby for this little trip of yours." Said, Derek
The boys got into James's car and started to drive away. The car jerked back and stopped moving.
"What's wrong with your car?" Asked Derek
"Nothing's wrong with my car it was running just fine last night."
"Verona?" Said, James
"You boys didn't think you could go on this little trip without me did you?" Verona said with a smile on her face.
She got into the car and said, "You can go now."
"I can't believe you were going to leave me, babe, I'm pretty sure you two could use my help with whatever it is you're doing," Verona said
"Babe?" Said, James
"I'm sorry this all came up last minute, you know I would have told you if I thought there was a good reason to." Responded Derek
"You two are a thing now? Ew" said James
"Shut up James, why don't you have a girlfriend?" Verona asked
"I don't do love, love makes you weak and when you're weak you're vulnerable. I can't leave myself vulnerable no matter what." Responded James
"Have you ever been in a relationship before?" Verona asked him
"Yes I have been in a relationship in the past but I don't want to talk about it."
"Oh, come on James don't be shy tell me about it." Said, Verona
"No" Replied James
Verona hit him in the arm repeatedly saying, "Tell me".
"James banged on the armrest and screamed, "No!" His eyes were yellow and his fangs were out.
"Okay jeez, I'm sorry I didn't realize I was hitting a soft spot."
"Alright, brother calm down and drive, get us where we need to be as fast as possible."
Derek turned on the radio and some soothing jazz started to play.
After driving for more than 13 hours they finally arrived at their destination.
"Finally we're here, it only took us half a day." Said, Verona
"Alright well lead the way."
The three walked into the bar, saw Miguel, and approached him.
"What's up, guys?" Said, Miguel
"Shut up and let's get to work." Responded Derek
"Hey man take it easy, why don't we just forget about what happened the other day and start over?"
"How about I just kill you right now for what happened the other day?"
Derek charged toward Miguel and Miguel charged toward him, James jumped in the middle of the two and said, "No we need him." "Save this for later."
The men backed away from each other whilst staring deep into each other's souls.
"Okay now that that's over let me call my friend and tell her to come in."
Miguel made the call and about a minute later a girl walked in, she was young, had black hair and blue eyes, she was wearing a black leather jacket and black jeans.
As she walked James stared at her and said, "Wow".
Miguel looked at him and said pick your jaw up off the floor we have business to take care of.
The girl approached the group and said, "Hello I'm Kayla."
Hey, I'm Derek, this is my little brother James and this is my girlfriend Verona.
James walked towards Kayla, grabbed her hand, and kissed it before saying, "You look ravishing tonight."
She smiled and said, "Thank you, you're not too bad yourself."
"Why am I here Miguel?" She asked
"I need your help, you're a banshee so you're kind of a harbinger of death right?" Responded Miguel
"I'm more like a caller of death why?"
She looked around at everyone and she saw that James was just looking at her admirably. She smiled and moved her hair to the side.
"We need your help finding out who or what killed my mother."
"I'm not sure that I can help, I've never done anything like this before. I don't even know what I need to complete this ritual, I will need a witch, a spell, and something that belonged to your mother." Said, Kayla
"Well here's the witch you said you needed." Said Derek pointing at Verona
"Okay, this is the spell you need to know, "Phasmatos Tribum, Nas Ex Veras!" Said Kayla to Verona
"Listen, girl, I am over 100 years old, I've been doing magic before you were even thought of so you don't have to tell me what I need to do, I got this." Said Verona to Kayla before pushing her away
"Alright everyone calm down let's just do this thing." Said, James
Kayla looked at the brothers and said, "I'm going to need some of your hair unless you have something of your mother's I could use."
"Would some blood work?" Asked Derek
"Yes, but this would be a lot less messy if you just gave me your hair." Responded Kayla
"Nah I prefer messy." Derek bit his hand and gave her his blood in a bowl, James did the same.
Kayla set down an old map of Salem and poured some of the blood in the middle, she looked at Verona and nodded her head.
"We will have to do this together," Verona said to Kayla
The women held hands and at the same time, "Phasmatos Tribum, Nas Ex Veras!", "Phasmatos Tribum, Nas Ex Veras!" and once more, "Phasmatos Tribum, Nas Ex Veras!"
A strong wind passed through the room pushing beer cans off the table and almost pushing the brothers back too.
Verona and Kayla both shut their eyes as they started to see a vision.
Once they opened their eyes they looked at each other with an expression of fear on their faces.
"What? What is it?" James said
"I saw something, it was like you." Said Verona to James
"What do you mean like me?" James asked
"It was a hybrid." Said, Kayla
"There was a group of them all over your mother, scratching her and biting her while she screamed in agony."
"Wait, so you're telling me that there is a group of hybrids out there just killing people? And we've never heard of them?." Said, Derek
"No it wasn't a group of hybrids, there was only one hybrid but there were about ten werewolves and vampires with him." Responded Verona
"I've heard of them before, they call themselves "The Crossbreeds" No one has heard of them for at least a century now so everyone just assumed they were dead." Said, Kayla
James looked at her and asked, "How do you know this?"
She responded saying, "I have a friend, he's a hybrid and he's been alive for over five hundred years now. I can introduce you guys to him if you want but we'll have to go to find him."
