章 13: Chapter 12

THE BREATH WAS SUCKED OUT OF ME.

It felt like time had slowed down, and suddenly I could hear every thump of my heart in my chest. I looked down as my hands began to violently tremble, just like they used to. My body heated up, and I could feel the drops of sweat trailing down the back of my neck. My eyes throbbed, ringing screams vibrating loudly in my ear.

I struggled to hear my own breathing as fear churns inside my stomach. The overwhelming feeling of terror and horror filled me up until I felt physically exhausted. My fingers are curled tightly into balled fists, my nails digging into my palms.

I felt paralyzed to the spot, my body betraying me as I begged myself to move.

"W-What?"

My voice was a mere whisper, the sound getting lost in the room.

The gleam in Mother's eyes as she saw the horror on my face made me feel sick. Her red painted lips stretched into a wide smile.

"You heard me, Isla. I'll bring him back here. One phone call is all it'll take, you know that."
