章 16: Just a Dream...
It wasn't long into their trip when Terry spoke. "You guys want to find a room? I need some sleep, if I am going to keep driving."
"Sounds like a plan." Drew replied as he pulled out his phone and searched for hotels along the highway. "Here's one, why don't you stop here Terry." He said as he started the gps.
"Anywhere is fine with me." Terry said. The hotel was only a short distance from their location and it did not take them long to arrive. Terry pulled up to the front door and Drew hopped out.
"Let me check us in really quick." Drew said as he went inside. Before long Drew returned with three room keys and handed one to Sam and Terry. "We don't have to share a room this time!"
"Thank god." Sam said. "I need some me time."
Terry parked and the three exited the van with their overnight bags and went to their rooms. Drew decided it would be great to take a shower before bed and proceeded to do just that. As he got out of the shower a sudden pain hit him in his chest and he began to cough uncontrollably. He ran to the sink as he could feel he was about to cough something up. As he continued to cough, he saw his blood stain the sink.
The room got colder and the mirror fogged up. Drew wiped away the moisture but the face staring back at him was not his own, it was the faceless girl again. Before Drew could react, she reached through the mirror and grabbed his head. Drew lost consciousness and fell to the floor.
Suddenly he found himself watching a man drive a car down the highway on a stormy night. With every lightning flash that illuminated the sky he could see the demon in the back seat. Drew panicked and attempted to warn the man, but the man could not hear him. No matter how many times Drew yelled, his voice was not heard.
The man arrived home and went inside, the demon followed him closely. He did his nightly chores and sat down in his recliner in front of his television. Drew's show came across the screen, and the demon seemed very interested in it. "Shit, is this a vision of the past or something?" Drew said to himself since no one would answer him.
Drew watched himself on the television, he remembered that episode, it premiered three weeks ago. As the episode finished the demon reached over the man and closed his eyes. They were then teleported back into the center of the forest. The man appeared at Hilda's table and she was pouring him some tea.
"Don't drink the tea!" Drew shouted. As he did it looked as if Hilda noticed him because she gave him an evil glare. Suddenly Drew found himself back in the man's living room. Black views formed from the man's mouth down to his chest. As the veins reached the man's heart, he clenched his chest and died. "Shit so that's what happens if you drink the tea." Drew said. He turned his attention back to the demon who was still watching his show. It was at the part of the show where Drew would always ask the viewers to send tips as to where to hunt ghosts.
Drew did that to increase fan engagement, hoping to ensure longtime fans. The demon turned its head and saw the man's cell phone on the arm of his chair. She reached over and touched it. As she did the screen went white and the phone cracked.
"Okay Drew this is some kind of dream, you just need to wake up." Drew said to himself now slapping his cheeks. The demon left him alone with the corpse. "Okay focus, you just need to wake up!" He shouted again. He closed his eyes and when he reopened them, he found himself lying in the hotel bed. He rushed up out of the bed and checked the bathroom. There was no blood in the sink and his reflection was his own.
"A dream?" Drew asked himself. "Had to have just been a nightmare." He looked at the alarm clock next to the bed, eight hours had passed since they checked in. "I wonder if anyone else is awake?" He said as he went to his bag to get clothes. He put his pants on followed by his shirt, completely unaware that a new symbol had branded itself on his shoulder.
He picked up his phone to call Sam. It rang a few times before she picked up.
"What do you need Drew?" She asked.
"I just had the weirdest nightmare!" Drew replied. "I dreamed about the faceless girl; it was like I was there on one of her past hunts."
"It's probably just your brain trying to adjust to the trauma." Sam said. "Don't worry, the nightmares will stop eventually."
"Did you have a nightmare too?" Drew asked.
"No, slept like a baby." Sam said. "I don't think I had a dream at all actually."
"Oh okay, hey do you know if Terry is up?" Drew asked. "We should get a move on to the studio as soon as we can."
"Well, I will get dressed, you give him a call." Sam said.
"Alright." Drew said as he hung up on Sam. He searched the phone and found Terry's number. Terry picked up within a few rings.
"Hello?" Terry said.
"Just seeing if you were ready to go, Terry." Drew said. "Oh, and did you have any nightmares or weird dreams?"
"Yes!" Terry shouted into the phone. "Terry was back in those mountains running from that ogre! Terry was terrified all night. Terry woke up crying he was so afraid."
"Sounds like you are still scared Terry." Drew replied.
"Maybe a little bit." Terry said. "It was just a dream, though right?"
"Yeah, nothing to worry about Terry." Drew said. "We beat her, she's gone."
"Alright, let me get dressed, I'll meet you at the van in a few minutes." Terry said.
"Okay." Drew said as he hung up the phone. "Well time to get going then." He said as he picked up his bag. He was surprised that a note was underneath it. He picked up the piece of paper to find an address burned on the page. "What is this?" Drew asked. "Oh well, I'll figure it out later." He said as he folded up the note and placed it into his pocket.
With that the trip made their way to the van and Drew collected their keys and checked them out of the hotel. After check out they were on the road once more, on their way to the studio.
