I awoke with the moon in my right eye. No, I awoke with the foot of the moon kicking me in the right eye.

"Wakey, wakey, nemesis." Maya smirked down at me. "So, I can't use magic on you without provocation, but nothing in the rules says I can't...."

I stared silently at the night sky behind her, swallowed slightly.

"That won't fool me." she said, as the noose fell to her neck, just under her chin, and SQUEEZED. Maya's silver eyeballs bulged, her otherwise pale skin darkening to a faint purple.

"Not. Permitted." said Cassandra, known to some as the Purest Angel, and to others the Hangwoman.

Shit.

She looked at me. "I've not forgotten you." she said, imprinting the mark of her hatred deep into my soul again. "YOU are an enemy of the church."

As if with a casual thought, she flipped the noose free of Maya.
