章 11: Help My Mother
Hours have passed and the team had a great night. It was already past four in the morning, and the club's administrator has already advised that they will be closing at five. Stephanie and her ladies already have left, heading towards the hotel where they are about to stay for another day. "You okay?" Jon asked Cathy. She nods at him and smiles. "I'll take you home", Alex said to her but Jon interrupted the two. "I shall take you both home" "But sir," Alex knows there is a shuttle service waiting outside to pick them up from the club, and drop them off at the hotel. "We'll take a cab home from the hotel," said Cathy. "We shall be alright." "No, I insist." Jon looked at Alex, who waved goodbye to the two. "See you on the work day, Cathy, Sir." "I'll make sure she gets home safe," Jon said and headed on to his car with Cathy. Alex went on to the bus, along with the other hotel staff who happened to be assigned in the same event.
As the sun rises in the city, Jon turns and looks at the lady seated on the passenger side. Cathy is asleep, "not used to staying up late," Jon thinks to himself as he smiles and stops the car near an old fashioned home. "So this is where she lives", he checks his phone and the map suggests that they have indeed reached their destination. He stops the car, gives her a tap on her left shoulder, waking her up. "Catie?" She opens her eyes and sees his smiling face. "How do you know where I live?" He smiles and tells her, "I have my ways." As she unlocks her seat belt, he immediately got out of the car and went to open the door for her. She thanks him, and as they walk near the door, a sound of breaking glass shocked them. "Mom?" Cathy shouted as she reached out for the keys in her purse, which was difficult more than ever when in a rush. "I'll do it, I'm sorry," Jon interrupted and uses his strength to open the front door. He holds the knob with his right hand, and pushes with his left side until it opens. They came rushing inside and went up the stairs which was a turn left right after the door. The staircase is made up of old wood, getting noisier with two people hurrying to climb up. The bedroom door was left open, and Cathy went in first. He was silent, but Cathy had shouted at him while holding the woman in her arms. "Please, help my mother!" Jon was a bit shocked, and as she called for help, he immediately carried the woman in his arms and took her into the car. Cathy was rushing after them, none of them spoke, but they both know what needs to be done.
A couple of minutes followed, the car swiftly turned into an emergency entrance, and in another he was rushing with the woman in his arms. Cathy was running right after him, her face in total fear as her mother was unconscious the whole time. As soon as they reach the emergency, Jon puts her to a bed, Cathy strokes her mother's hair with her right hand and whispers into her mother's left ear, "You will be okay mom." Nurses came and led the two away from the patient and onto the waiting area. They both take their seats, Cathy was rubbing her hands together, still in fear. She had no idea of what has happened, she left home yesterday to help out with the company event. Flashbacks came to her, her mom was sitting on the couch and kissed her goodbye before she left. "I'm going," she remembered telling her mother, the woman got up, placed the crocheted pillow case she just made on the sofa and walked to the door. "Bye, love," she kissed Cathy on the cheek and opened the door for her. She did not expect anything to happen to her.
It was all so confusing, and troubling. Cathy sat on a couch in the waiting area, buried her face in her hands and cried. For ten years, she had no one but her mother. She does not know what to do exactly, her mom is all she ever had.
