Will stood somewhere in the back of the fighting line, watching everything from afar with a calm gaze. Although he had seen pictures of goblins and read descriptions about them, it was intriguing to see them in person. First and first most, they were ugly. Every single one of the goblins were horrendously disgusting. They had rather long pointy noses that contrasted with their small head. Their eyes were same disgusting shade of poisonous green as their rough and bumpy skin and their perverted grins revealed their disproportionately placed but sharp teeth. They had large bat like ears that would twitch at random intervals and a voice that resembled a strangled cat. They would screech and make a weird giggling sound at each other as they quickly advanced against the wall of adventurers.
Will had heard rumors that goblins were perfectly capable of speaking human words and would do so in certain regions to lower the defenses of people before attacking. However, looking at the bestial monsters before him, Will greatly doubted its legitimacy. The goblins looked like and acted like mindless beasts emerging from the covered depths of the forest.
Two of the adventurers who held big heavy shields immediately charged into the group of goblins like a ramming wall and immediately killed or disabled about ten goblins. However, after their charges had slowed down by a great deal, the goblins let out a guttural shriek of glee and started swarming over the two adventurers and attacked. But the two adventurers expected this and immediately fell forward while holding their shields and started to roll around, crushing the goblins underneath them. While most of the goblins were distracted by the rolling tankers, the other adventurers made a body wall the keep the remainder of the goblin hoard away.
"Shit! Why are there so many fucking goblins!" screamed a man as he stabbed a goblin in the head, only for his sword to be forceful taken away by another goblin. The man scowled as his sword disappeared into the masses while a goblin chewed on his boot. "It's so fucking annoying," he complained as he kicked the goblin off his shoe.
"Do we have any mages here with area of effect spells?" screamed another. "Every time I kill a goblin, the other goblins try to take away my weapon. I can barely hold them off and keep them away from the cargo and wagons."
"Ah shit! We got a breach on the left. Someone cover left!"
As an adventurer got
Will gave a quick glance to his left and right and saw that no one was there and let out a small sigh before raising his blade. It seemed that he wouldn't be able to avoid killing to the very end.
Will couldn't help but feel as though his blade was a perfect match for the current him. Its thin blade glimmered under the bright sunlight above while the handle rested comfortably within his hands. The blade was designed, not to hack, but to pierce or slash. It was made to redirect an attack instead of blocking one. It was a good match for the one sword style that Will was familiar with. The Flowing Water Sword Style.
(A/N: Yikes that sounds hella cringe.... Gonna definitely change it later.)
As the first goblin came rushing at him, Will quickly gave an elegant slice that neatly cut opened the throat of the goblin with ease and sent it tumbling down to the floor. For the second goblin, Will thrusted forward and pierced a goblin in the head and watched as the goblin started to spasm in pain for a moment or two before withdrawing his blade. When the third goblin came shrieking up to him, along with a fourth and fifth, Will calmly kicked the third goblin as hard as he could sending it flying back before spinning around while flourishing blade. the sword created a silver crescent as it effortlessly severed the neck of the fourth goblin while severely injuring the fifth. Will calmly regained his balance and calmly walked towards the wounded goblin which was screaming loudly in pain.
As he stared into the eyes of the goblin beneath him, he saw a glint of desperation and a will to live. The goblin was trembling while holding the wound on its stomach, the place where Will's blade had opened a fatal wound. It stared up towards Will with fear in its eyes, its two hands desperately trying to stop its acid like purple blood from flowing out of its wound. As more time passed on, the goblin's breath started to become raspier and quieter. It was irrefutable that the goblin would soon die to blood loss. However, although it was obvious that the goblin was afraid of death, Will could sense that the goblin was still scheming something in its head.
Will watched on apathetically as the goblin weakly lifted one of its arms and let out a pained screech while staring at Will with pitiful round eyes. Tears slowly poured out of the goblins eyes as it dragged itself towards the feet of Will before wailing once more. It was as if it was pleading for mercy.
It was almost comical to Will, how a disgustingly ugly monster such as a goblin seemed so similar to a human when realizing that it was nearing its death. Both would fear death, both would do anything to confirm their survival. No matter the cost.
Will watched the goblin struggle for a moment before reaching out for the goblin. However, the moment Will's hand had neared the face of the goblin's face, the goblin gave a sudden burst of energy as it lunged forward with its mouth wide open ready to bite into Will's hand. Will quickly retracted his hand, letting the goblin chomp down onto empty air before observing the goblin with cold eyes.
It was indeed just like a human near his death. Selfish, vengeful, and pitiful. Utterly disgusting.
Will emotionlessly stabbed the goblin in the chest and twisted his blade, while watching the goblin squirm around in pain. It grasped at Will's blade with its hands trying to pry it free from its chest, but Will only pushed the blade deeper in until the blade was firmly lodged into the earth. Blood sprouted from the goblins chest like a purple lotus flower and its hands dyed Will's blade in a purplish tint. Soon, the bloody green hands that had been sliced from grabbing onto Will's blade fell to the floor and the raspy, weak breaths stopped reaching Will's ear.
Will dislodged his sword from the earth and goblins chest and wiped the purplish blood off until his blade was clean. Will then stared at the five goblin corpses around him with an empty look before closing his eyes.
It was just as he feared.
The feeling he got from killing was emptiness, and emptiness alone.
Perhaps he was too broken of a person to ever be free from his past.
