Lai gaped at Cailina as the latter sat with crossed arms. She stared blankly at her attendant as Lai tried to figure out his master's thinking, and as usual, he ended up with nothing.

He sighed as he bowed, "My Lady's wish is my command."

He was dismissed immediately and moved to a new post. A master that he has little knowledge of as his parents never learned of the Duke's illegitimate child. It would be quite a challenge teaching the little Grandis.

Lai let out another sigh as he walked with his shoulders dropped. Perhaps his Lady saw nothing of benefit from him and was straightaway disposed of. 

He turned and bumped into a running boy. He narrowed his eyes and felt his heart almost leave his chest.
