章 46: Untouchable 03
Aris observed from a distance. He never once tore his attention away from the man. Although the man's features have changed with the years, and streaks of white hair were visible. Aris recognized him with a glance.
How could he forget one of the Great Alphas of his kind.
A tapping near him interrupted his focus. Aris looked up and saw Fione, Cailina's maid. She wore a blank expression while Aris tried to ask something but ended closing his mouth multiple times.
Fione looked at where Aris was so fixed upon and at what she saw made her brows knit together, and as she returned her gaze at him, she said, "Why are you following the Duke's guest?"
She saw the man earlier in the mansion, and she was informed that Cailina should not meet the man yet. Of course, without questioning the order, Fione followed. If it was about her master, she would choose the most that would benefit Cailina.
Fione stared at Aris even if the latter sat uncomfortably. Her distant yet piercing gaze made Aris looked at his feet, and he awkwardly returned to observe the man.
They were at the opposite shop, and the man was laughing with an acquaintance on the other side. The passersby were the only hindrance that Aris has to completely spy on the man.
Fione wasted no time and grabbed the dog's hand. She was supposed to be by her Lady's side, but she ended up looking out for this puppy because of his suspicious actions.
"Let go," Aris said and tried to take his hand. But the maid's grip was tighter than he had expected.
"My Lady cares for you, and if she didn't, I wouldn't hesitate to feed you to your kind."
Fione's eyes began to glow, she was determined to break both of Aris' arms if he resisted. Each of them refused to budge as they have their own objectives. Their struggles lasted for a good while, and as Aris looked for the man, he was no longer where he was.
He tossed Fione's hand and ran after the man. It was his chance to kill the man who abandoned him, but Cailina's maid went and abolish his plans. He followed in a distance as the man might become wary of his presence.
Aris saw the man turn to a less crowded street, and as he slowly made his way to enter the street, he was quickly grabbed by the neck.
He struggled to free himself, but it was impossible to escape from the man.
"I never imagined to see you here, my little nephew…"

The door banged, but never budged. Lai heaved as he kept his fist contacting with the door. He was desperate to reunite with his Lady, being alone with nothing but dolls staring at him with their lifeless eyes made his heart race.
"Is there something wrong, mister?" a young man's voice sounded behind him.
Lai snapped his attention to the young man in humble clothing, but his outfit could not hide the elegance from his face.
"Who are you?" Lai asked, his hand on his sword, "Are you one of the old man's?"
Cassius titled his head, confused to what the stressed-out man in front of him said. If he would be considered as the old man's worker, he would be happy with it. He looked at Lai as if the latter had grown three heads.
His disheveled hair and sweating face were the witnesses of his effort to get through the door.
"Are you mute?"
"N-no!" Cassius replied, his hand shielding his face as Lai was about to scar him, "Here, let me help you."
He carefully approached the door and softly knocked. The door made a click, and Cassius looked at Lai, "It's an enchanted door, it wouldn't listen if one would use force."
Lai was about to scream out profanities when Cailina stepped out of the room. She brushed off the anxious attendant that wouldn't stop and breathe from asking her how she was. She looked at the young man beside Lai, he was a gentle-looking lad and he seemed familiar.
"My Lady, are you really fine?" Lai asked for the hundredth time, "Did the old man troubled you?"
Cailina sighed and waved her hand. She had enough of her worrisome attendant. She looked at the old man and said, "Before anything else, I would like some tea."
The old man nodded and in eagerness, he disappeared without a word.
Cailina turned to Cassius, "What are you waiting for?"
With her uncompromising gaze, Cassius clumsily led them to the parlor. He then personally served them tea. He carried a small smile, but in his heart, he was complaining as to why would he serve someone.
The old man refused to take him in as an apprentice, why would he entertain his guests? Cassius left the room after filling the cold lady's cup.
He shivered as he remembered the gaze that Cailina gave him. She looked familiar though, he placed his hand on his chin and thought of where did he see her. He was sure that they have met before.
"You're here Yurel!" the old man chirped, "Elleili have finally chose a master."
Cassius nodded as he tried to keep his smile. He would always flash a grin or a small smile at the old man. He wanted to be on his good side so he could finally study under the old man's guidance.
Despite his efforts to be taken in, the old man would find a way to avoid the topic and would turn him down in the bluntest yet polite way.
He sighed in his heart. The old man would definitely help him advance in his invention, especially that he was now working under the Duke. Cassius' skills were in no match with the old man's skills and talents, but due to his old age, he was forgetful, and now has settled to the life of making dolls.
Cailina scoffed at Lai's pitiful state. He was laughable for overreacting and exerting unnecessary energy. She wanted to say a few words but was interrupted by the door's opening.
"I hope I didn't make you wait for long," the old man smiled as in his arms carried the beautiful doll that would be known throughout the Empire.
